Knautia Arvensis - Field Scabious - Lilac Pincushion. Flowers June - September , a lovely grassland/meadow/marshland flowering perennial. Can be grown from seed in spring and autumn and does well in garden borders or larger pots in full sun.

Found all over the UK - these photos are from my recent trip to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 where they were abundant both planted in borders and beds and here growing wild on the slopes of Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh. The delicate mauve flowers have a sweet scent being members of the honeysuckle family attracting 🐝 and 🦋.

In traditional medicine scabious was known for helping with inflamation respiratory diseases and skin diseases such as scabies.

The young leaves can be eaten as an edible salad leaf and the flowers can be used in flavoring drinks including alcoholic mead🍻.

A common garden herb that self seeds, loved by butterflys and bees 🦋🐝. Flowering throughout summer into autumn. Verbena although bitter in taste - the dried leaves can make a good tea for fever, inflamation and cramps, also anxiety, insomnia and depression. I like the flash of colour you catch at a glance, this one is lightly scented. 💜
