There’s a famous story of Pablo Picasso.

He was enjoying a meal at a restaurant when a man interrupted him, handed him a napkin and asked:

“Could you sketch something for me? I’ll pay. Name your price.”

Picasso took the napkin, pulled a charcoal pencil from his pocket and started sketching. Using only a few strokes, he drew a goat that was unmistakably a Picasso. He held it up for the man to see.

The man smiled and reached to take the sketch. But Picasso withheld it.

“That will be $100,000.” Picasso said.

The man was astonished. “$100,000?! You drew that in 30 seconds!”

Picasso crumpled up the napkin and stuffed it in his pocket.

“You’re wrong.” he said.

“It’s taken me 40 years to do that.”

Well said Julia Hawkes - it makes me cross when couples are told that they can't have this Basic Registration as it's legally available to any couples across England and Wales 🙂

£57 pounds - the cost of a legal statutory marriage registration across the whole of England and Wales.

Yes that’s right in every county! and in some countries this fee even includes a copy of your legal marriage certificate.

Sometime registration services refer to this type of ceremony as a Statutory Ceremony, others call it a Statutory Registration. Almost all will know what you are taking about if you say you just want a 2+2. (which means 2 of you and 2 witnesses)

On some county websites it is virtually impossible to find this option listed. BUT they do offer it! Usually on just one or two mid week days, often in the morning. Availability is limited and goes quickly - find out how far in advance you can book.

I am very frustrated by Registration offices who don’t make this option clearly available on their websites and those who when speaking to couples steer them towards more expensive options as ‘the cheapest’.

Don’t be misled- ask for what you want, use the correct terminology.

You will need to pay an additional £70 notice fee (£35 each) but that’s it!

If you need any more advice I’m happy to talk and then spend your hard earned cash on booking a celebrant!

Changes to wedding ceremonies in England and Wales today means you can have a legal ceremony outside in a licensed venue until April 2022.

Ok so sounds good on paper but hey, what it means is...

1. 🤔 You still have to have a standard legal ceremony that's repeated for every couple.

2. 🤔 You still don't get to meet your officiant beforehand and choose who you'd like to create and lead your ceremony.

3. 🤔 You still have to choose a licensed venue only. Although some are gorg, using unlicensed could save you money and opens a world of opportunities

4. 🤔 You have no freedom to choose the words that are said in what could be the most important ceremony of your life.

Choose a personalised ceremony in absolutely any location without any restrictions to content, time, theme and place.

Don't gamble on your wedding.

Be you 100%.

We are so excited to be holding weddings here soon at Bryn Eisteddfod Weddings and Events. The front lawn has never been so empty and we cannot wait to hear the sound of laughter, love, music and of course seeing everyone's Dad dancing!
