Yes I know this is a food page but hopefully this post will wake up the algorithm a bit 🤪 My summer has been super busy with lots of celebrations and my first month of working as a Junior Doctor!

I had the pleasure of visiting this little gem for my surprise graduation party! Located in the outskirts of London, and just round the corner from me, it’s the perfect place to go for a wonderful afternoon tea. It has recently come under new ownership, and now offers an entirely halal menu!
There was a huge range of finger sandwiches, and the most delectable sweet treats. The staff were incredibly accommodating and the service was excellent, I really appreciated the extra attention to detail 🌹🌸
I’d thoroughly recommend visiting 😻

Ultimate summer salad ☀️🥗
Freshness from the vegetables, creaminess from the feta and crunch from the pita - this salad has it all. It’s a bit of a fusion of a greek salad & middle eastern fattoush!
RECIPE
1/4 red cabbage, finely shredded
1/2 red onion, finely sliced (rinsed in cold water for a milder flavour)
2 handfuls of mixed salad leaves, roughly chopped
2 handfuls cherry tomatoes, quartered
1/2 cucumber, diced
large handful olives
1/2 block feta cheese, cubed
1 sweet red pepper, diced
~12 mint leaves, shredded
small handful parsley, shredded
seeds of 1/2 a pomegranate
Dressing:
extra virgin olive oil
juice of a lemon and a lime
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 jalapeño, deseeded & finely diced (optional)
salt & pepper
sumac
Pita chips:
cut up pita bread into squares, toss with olive oil & a tsp of za’atar (optional) and toast in the oven for ~10 mins until golden brown and crispy
Toss everything together and enjoy ☀️

Having been away from the baking kitchen for a while I was a little nervous, but I’m so happy with how this turned out!!

I personally enjoyed the beef strips much more, and seasoned and pan fried them with some red peppers to eat as a sandwich filler. I roasted the tender strips to enjoy with a summer salad (available from the chilled and frozen meat free and plant-based aisles in all major supermarkets)

I was kindly invited to to try out their new menu and dine-in experience. They specialise in freshly made chopped salads 🥗 and Big-Rolls 🌯 and use a wide range of fresh ingredients to chop and build your salad in front of you. Oh and they have a super cute selfie wall too 🤩

The mains are generously sized and filling, and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. Although a little tricky to eat, the Thai prawn big-roll was flavoursome with lots of pickled ginger (which I love). The chia pudding was very creamy and moreish, although I wasn’t a fan of the chocolate at the bottom, and both the homemade drinks were refreshing and perfect for summer!
If you’re ever in the area, it’s a pleasant spot for an affordable and healthy casual lunch. Choppaluna is now open for dine-in everyday 10am-9pm!

PASTA DI PIAZZA 🍝 🍕
This lovely Italian restaurant is just off the square in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham. From the outside it is charming and well presented, and this continues inside. We went for a late lunch and the restaurant was busy throughout. The staff were polite and our food arrived in good time.
For starters we ordered the calamari, mushroom italiano and garlic bread. The calamari was perfectly fried and a generous portion. The mushroom italiano was disappointingly bland and the garlic bread pizza was... just an average garlic bread pizza 😂
For mains we got a capri pizza (goats cheese, caramelised balsamic red onion and fresh rocket) and the mushroom ravioli. The pizza was average, with not enough goats cheese and too much rocket. I’m normally a fan of this pizza, but personally I felt the balsamic vinegar was too strong. I really enjoyed the mushroom ravioli, it was flavourful and the sauce was rich, however I can see it not being to everyone’s taste. The portion size was also definitely on the small size, and so I’m glad we’d ordered a range of starters.
Overall a nice Italian meal in the centre of Birmingham, but certainly nothing to write home about.
