Medal Monday 🥇🥈🥉

This weekend was a sort out and paint of the office and proudly hanging on our wall is the first 2 years of medals.

2015 was the first ABP Southampton Marathon 🏃‍♂️ which was a half and 10k the first mass running event for almost 30 years at the time in the city.

Although I think we’ve had cooler medals since then, there is something special about this first years medal. The blood, sweat and tears that went into getting this event off the ground makes it extra special!

I was fortunate enough to be able to get a run in with Simon Williamson for his and I was Day 101.

The run flew by for me but must have felt like de ja vu for poor Sy who ran the ABP Southampton Marathon on Sunday.

Great chat on the event, mutual connections - 223 on LinkedIn and whether we could make a one lap marathon work…..

Lovely morning in Southampton checking on the course for this Sunday.

🚧 Massive thanks to Southampton City Council and Balfour Beatty plc for helping to ensure the course is safe.

☕️ Thanks to Mettricks and Spencer Bowman for the caffeine and free coffees to all runners!

⚽️ Thanks to the team Southampton Football Club and Andy Darbyshire MSyI for allowing us to run through the stadium pitch side.

🧑‍🎓 Thanks to University of Southampton for hosting a water station and allowing us to run through campus.

🚘 Thanks to Hendy Group for supplying vans, support vehicles and the lead car.

Busy day and lots more people to thank - it takes a city to organise an event!

Weekend away and couldn’t resist… but which ****pool is it?

Busy month coming up!! 💪🏽

Kicking off with Radley College Triathlon THIS Friday for Try Tri Events 🏊🏽‍♂️ 🚴‍♀️ 🏃🏽 in Oxford with over 350 triathletes signed up!

🏊🏽‍♂️ Then next Tuesday we have 12 candidates booked in for (Swimming Teachers Association) in Wi******er.

🏃‍♂️ Final prep with Abi Knapton for ABP Southampton Marathon 🏃‍♂️ after her great run in Eastleigh yesterday!

🏊🏽‍♂️ And last week of term for all World of Swimming 🏊‍♀️ pools so its badges badges badges!!

Easter 🐣 break? No such thing!

Holy Moly! Time flies!

🏃‍♂️ Abi Knapton is in full flow mode as we head towards the 9th ABP Southampton Marathon 🏃‍♂️

Massive thanks to Chris Orr for the loan of this lovely space the Design Chapel to host our ABP mile maker training sessions.

Supporting the runners on event day is almost 800 support staff from Sector leaders, traffic management, events crew and our amazing ABP mile makers cheering 📣 on all the runners.

It really is an epic day which brings the whole city together.

Very proud of Abi - who has gone from a student volunteering at one of our events, to being THE brains 🧠 behind the operation meticulously planning every detail of event day.

Bring on Sunday 7th April 💪🏽 good luck to all the runners 🏃🏽 we are routing for you!

Running for a reason 🏃‍♂️

Great to catch up with the amazing team Southampton Hospitals Charity UK team yesterday.

We are 9 years in almost £4 million raised for charity and behind that amazing figure is thousands of real life stories about real people in our community.

Southampton Hospital Charity is an incredible local charity doing amazing work and this year they have over 125 runners already!

If you haven’t signed up yet we want to get this number to 150.

There are still spaces in the Half or 10k for next month.

Hanging out at Hendy Group this morning in the sunshine 🌅

🚗 Lovely morning for a photoshoot with the ABP Southampton Marathon 🏃‍♂️ and our awesome Transport Partner - Hendy Group.

Keep an eye out for our lovely Kia heading around Southampton.

Hendy have been helping to drive forward the event since its inception in 2015 and have been our partner for 15 years now.

Super 👌 Saturday!!

🏃‍♂️ Dryest run of the week so far to kick start the day

🏊 Then pool visits in Totton and Wi******er to update our supervisors.

Then this pops up in my emails - a lovely 🥰 review for one of our newest and youngest members of staff.

⭐️ It takes 2 minutes to write a review but those words make all the difference to the team, boosts confidence and job satisfaction.

🏃‍♂️ It was a tad muddy along the Itchen footpath this morning, the good news it was also flooded so I washed most of the mud off too!

🏊🏽‍♂️ I think it would have been quicker to swim the footpath this morning.

Still up and out and another 15km done ☑️

I’ve never done a Triathlon, one of my friends said to me.

He swims in rivers, cycles across the new forest and runs ultra marathons.

It’s just a lot to think about isn’t it…

Well yes and no, you have to be organised with kit, your fuel and hydration but then if you’re prepared it makes your actual event so much smoother.

This is year 15 of Try Tri Events 🏊🏽‍♂️ 🚴‍♀️ 🏃🏽 bringing novice and sprint triathlons to Hampshire and Oxford.

Small friendly distances and events perfect for first timers and those looking to get their season started.

Over 15,000 people have done a triathlon with us and almost 75% them we are their first experience!

We have:

👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 Team starts so 4 of you can go off together
🚲 Fun cycle routes
🏃🏽 Short run distances

9 years - seems crazy how quick time flies and the numbers start to go a bit crazy....

600 Volunteers on the day

£81,000 invested into local community groups by ABP
780,000 miles run by runners around the streets of Southampton
£1.5 million average extra spend in the city on Race weekend

None of this is possible with out all the runners and support from the city.

How long will it take me to run 🏃‍♂️ the marathon?

One of my favourite emails in my inbox, I answered back politely. Depends on how much you train, your shoes, your nutrition, your hydration…. Etc but ultimately it’s down to you and your motivation.

🏡 Is this a good time for me to buy/sell?

Well depends on what you want to buy, when you bought, how’s your current mortgage, do you like where you live….

It’s down to you and your motivations. If you’re waiting for mortgage rates to drop to 1% again I wouldn’t wait.

If you bought a house in 2021 and expecting to make a gain, you might want to wait.

If you’re 1% mortgage is about to become 5% and you can’t afford it you might need to.

Whether you’re running a marathon or selling you’re home it’s down to you and personal motivations.
