Although our usual posts are very interesting and informative (well, we like to think so!), we'd like to ask you for input - what is your favourite part of a loo? It could be to always have loo roll or the seat down, or cleanliness or just a good feature - let us know!

Why do we poo in clean water? Our current sanitation system makes no sense - all that energy to clean the water, then we s**t straight back into it and add chemicals - all that power to clean it again before dumping it in the sea...it's seriously stupid! At least we can rest easy knowing that none of this is happenning with our loos! Poo, compost, put on food - easy, smart!

The technique of composting human poo for fertiliser has been around for hundreds of years. In Japan, companies actually used to pay people for their "night soil" as it was seen as a valuable resource for food production.

Day 5 of interesting poo facts; Neil Armstrong left 4 bags of poo in space. When you see a shooting star, it may actually be some astronaut poo. When there are a lot of poo bags, astronauts put all of the bags into an unmanned supply ship, they undock it, and it burns up in the atmosphere. So next time you want to make a wish on a shooting star....just keep in mind it might well be a big bag of s**t!

Day 4 of interesting poo facts; Poo is mostly water...
Poo might look solid (unless you've got the squits) but in fact your s**t is up to 75 per cent water. Some solid matter is actually dead bacteria. Another third or so is indigestible food. The rest is cholesterol and fats, protein and inorganic substances like iron phosphate. These are all collected along the digestive tract from your mouth to your bum.

Day 3 countdown of interesting poo facts;
Poo gets its brown color from a chemical that gets released when red blood cells are broken down in our bodies. The chemical travels to the gut via bile, a green digestive fluid produced by the liver. But during the digestion process, bile mixes with what we have eaten, and it changes color from green to brown. Same colour as chocolate really - YUM!

Day 2 countdown of interesting poo facts. It's a jungle in there (or is it a butcher shop?) It's a fact that bowel motions come in a variety of shapes, sizes and consistencies, and this has been described in something called the Bristol Stool Scale, first published in 1997.

Day 1 countdown of interesting poo facts; Doing a poo (or farting without doing a poo) is a masterpiece of finely controlled body engineering!!
The cells in the a**s are very sensitive and can sense the difference between poo and gas in your re**um, allowing you to fart without 'following through'. One impressed doctor wrote: "If you place into your cupped hands a mixture of fluid, solid, and gas and then try to let only the gas escape through an opening at the bottom, you will fail. Yet the a**l sphincter can do it. No other muscle in the body is such a protector of our dignity, yet so ready to come to our relief."

Men and Women Poo differently. Men have more rigid abdominal walls that help push food through more effectively. Food takes longer to transit through women that's why they are more prone to bloating - men on the other hand are more regular - ladies, get down the gym and work on those abs!

So, in a lifetime how much do we poo?
Starting with an average daily amount of about 400 grams, the total poo production in a week's time would be about 2.8 kg. In a year, a single person would yield about 145 kg of poo - just a little more than an adult panda weighs :) So if you're lucky enough and live to age 81 you would produce about 11,757 kg (25,920 lbs.) - so a lifetime of a one's poo weighs about as much as three adult male hippos!" Can you imagine how much food we can grow with all that?

How much do you think we poo in a lifetime?

Water makes up about 75 percent of your poo. The rest is an often-stinky combination of fiber, dead and live bacteria, other cells, and mucus. Soluble fiber found in foods like beans and nuts is broken down during digestion and forms a gel-like substance that becomes part of your poo. After a year or so, with us, this becomes compost that can then grow food and start the whole process again!

For the first time, single-use plastic drinks bottles will not be available to purchase at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. They will also no longer be supplied or available in any of the Festival’s backstage, production, catering and dressing room areas.

Our partners Greenpeace estimate that, globally, up to 12.7 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans each year. Greenpeace advise that by far the best way to avoid plastic pollution is to reduce plastic usage. With more than one million plastic bottles sold at Glastonbury 2017, we feel that stopping their sale is the only way forward.

For those wishing to drink water - which we certainly do recommend! - we are, once again, encouraging all Festival-goers to use a reusable water bottle and refill it at any of the hundreds of free water taps around the Glastonbury site. We have a mains water supply from Bristol Water, with water of the same quality as your taps at home.

We are also tripling the number of WaterAid kiosks where you will be able to refill your bottle. Free drinking water will be available from all bars across the site. Meanwhile, canned soft drinks and canned water will be available to purchase from all traders who previously sold soft drinks in plastic bottles.

Although those coming to Glastonbury 2019 will not be prevented from bringing plastic bottles on to the site, we strongly encourage everyone to join the effort by bringing as little single-use plastic as possible.

Says Emily Eavis: "It's paramount for our planet that we all reduce our plastic consumption, and I'm thrilled that, together, we'll be able to prevent over a million single-use plastic bottles from being used at this year's Festival. I really hope that everyone - from ticket-holder to headliner - will leave Worthy Farm this year knowing that even small, everyday changes can make a real difference. It’s now or never."
