Calls To Change 'Idiotic' Weddings Venue Rule

Jersey events companies are calling on the government to change rules that are leading to scores of cancelled weddings.

This is what we are faced with. Marquee A is EXACTLY the same as Marquee B. Marquee A is on grass in a public area. Marquee B is on grass in a private field. We can cater for an UNLIMITED number of guests in A but only TWENTY guests in B. I’m not joking, seriously. Both are fully controlled events with the same risk assessment, same track & trace, same everything. So my poor wedding couples who have booked their wedding on private land are having to un invite the majority of their guests. This is TOTAL AND UTTER MADNESS that is not only heartbreaking for our clients but is financial su***de for us. Can you imagine having to tell friends and family (many of whom have booked hotels, flights etc) that purely because of the geographical location of their marquee that they can no longer come to the wedding. Is the Government aware of this ‘horse’s arse’ of a law? Absolutely. What should be done? Admit, reverse and let common sense prevail. The likelihood of anything happening soon? Bob & No . Following a rigorous selection and training process, fourteen Authorised Civil Celebrants have been sworn in at the Royal Court today, giving them authority to conduct wedding ceremonies at any non-religious licensed venue in Jersey. Couples currently planning their wedding are invited to meet the Authorised Civil Celebrants on Thursday 31 January in the concourse of the Jersey Museum.
