Choosing your wedding venue

Choosing your wedding venue is one of, if not the most significant decision when it comes to planning your wedding.

Its so easy when you are looking at wedding venues to get overexcited and swept up in the moment, falling in love with a venue that might not actually cater to what you need. All couples have different priorities for their wedding day, so a venue that fits those priorities isn’t going to be the same for everyone. Your choice of venue will have an impact on so many other elements of your day and so it is important to consider them and choose wisely.

For G&R we celebrated different elements of their wedding day at 3 different venues in London. This part of the day was hosted at (pictured here).

I may be biased from my 12 years working for unique venues but when it comes to choosing a venue I'm a big supporter of choosing a unique space. One that has a history or has features for guests to be enthused about.
Of course you need to ensure it fulfills your requirements from a logistical perspective but the unique element adds to any celebration.

When your cake is a work of art!

Working with is always a pleasure and I'm excited to be working with her again this year.

One of the benefits of working with a Planner is having access to their network of suppliers. People that are highly skilled in their fields and can be trusted to deliver on both style and substance.

Looking ahead // As we are now into February my diary is starting to fill up with venue meetings and tastings. My admin is focused around finalising invitations, working on wedding websites and searching for those suppliers for the finer details that come together to make a complete experience for couples and their guests.

Its an exciting time for couples as they start to see plans take shape and the logistics lover in me thoroughly enjoys this stage of making sure everything works smoothly.

Your Ceremony

Couples often put so much effort into planning the wedding breakfast (choosing the cutlery, the linen, thinking about every little detail).

The ceremony should be given the same thought, if not more! Who is going to conduct the ceremony? What is going to be said? Is the location important to you?

Your Ceremony is the moment you become married, it is also the start of your celebration, so setting the right tone is important.

So get together with your other half and discuss your ceremony!

THE TWO OF YOU// A wedding is said to take an average of 250-300 hours to plan. So, you can imagine how easily it can take over any free time you have.

Trying to juggle work, wedding planning and some kind of social life (let alone time with your fiancé) can be hectic. So make time for yourselves.

The Guest Experience // I was having a chat with one of my brides this week about the guest experience.

We were discussing the fact that it goes so far beyond the basic elements on the day itself. Your guests' experience of your wedding begins when they receive that Save the Date or Invitation.

The experience includes so much, for example - how easy you make it for them to RSVP, whether you have considered enough variety in your catering options for guests with different dietary requirements, how simple it is for them to physically get from one place to another on the day, whether you have considered the weather and how it will affect them - the list goes on!

One thing that many couples want to do is think about what the guests can take away. Many want to move away from the traditional favours left on place settings (all guests receiving the same thing) and instead want to think about something more unique like artist portraits of the guests.

This is something that we have had a few times over the past year and has been so popular with guests! These pictures are from B&M's day with .

A HAPPY COUPLE // This is what we all love to see on a wedding day!!

The benefit of having someone there to coordinate your day is invaluable - it provides you with complete reassurance that no matter what happens everything is in hand.

Coordination doesn't only hold huge value for the day of your wedding, but it is also so useful 6 weeks before when the service begins. At this point we check through all your plans, and being experienced planners, we are able to see what may be missing. We will liaise with suppliers from that point and be sure that all of the logistics are thought about and in place, to ensure the smooth running on the day.

MARQUEE WEDDINGS AT HOME // Planning a wedding at home, a place where you feel most comfortable, is a wonderful experience for you and your guests. It is the perfect place to tell your story and make even more memories. ⁣

It does however have its challenges. I have explained the Pros and Cons (or really the Pros and things to consider) of planning a wedding at home in my blog. It discusses everything from guest numbers and catering to décor and toilets!

One big Pro is the flexibility you have to create the look, the feel and the experience that you want for yourselves and your guests. Just like here for A & B last September!

A COUPLE'S STORY // I love speaking to couples for the first time, hearing about their story.

How did they get together? When did they know they were meant to be? I love hearing the proposal story and what their plans are for the future.

My initial free consultation gives me the chance to get to know a couple. It also gives them the chance to get to know me, how I work and how we could be a good fit for eachother.

STATEMENTS // One thing I always advise...

My job as a Planner is to Advise, Curate and Deliver the wedding that my couples desire.

One thing I always advise is to have statement pieces in the design of the day, whether that be an incredible cake or a fabulous floral installation for example. Making a statement makes it even more memorable!

I then curate a design for the whole day which fits the couple's style and I deliver it by using trusted and talented suppliers.

My bride always knew she wanted a statement arch for her church ceremony, once we chose the colour palette for the wedding we set about working with one of our trusted suppliers . I'm sure you'll agree they created a truly fabulous statement here!

JUST A JOB? // I love my job, it is honestly such an honour to be part of some of the most important days of my couple's lives.

This isn't just a job for me! It is a responsibility, it can be hard work, it is a lot of pressure but it is an absolute joy.

You want a beautiful wedding of course and so many planners can give you this but you should choose a planner that you bond with, someone that puts your mind at ease, someone that gives you the confidence to enjoy your day knowing you're in experienced and safe hands.

This feedback is exactly what I want to hear - I want to know that you and your bridal party have been able to truly relax and enjoy every moment!

HELLO // Getting to know me...

How did I get into the world of weddings and events?

My Music degree led me to work for the LSO (London Symphony Orchestra) and following some time in their education team I began to work at their venue LSO St Luke's. There I began my career in this industry, managing corporate events and weddings and there I also met my husband!

What have I enjoyed most about my career so far?

I love working in heritage and unique venues whose sole purpose is not events. I especially enjoyed my 6+ years at London's Natural History Museum.
I love the fact that the income a lot of these venues receive feeds into something else whether it be charity work, education, research etc.

What motivates me?

I love helping people, I always have. I love seeing a couple get excited about their big day, actually enjoying the planning process and then seeing their faces when they say their vows, when they enter their wedding reception all set up beautifully and seeing them dancing the night away - its the best!

How do I spend my spare time?

Mainly with my lovely little family, but I also like to go out for food or cocktails, or have a spa treatment if I have time alone!

VALUES // These can be overlooked in the initial decision process (when choosing who to work with), but it is something that I think is key.

Certainly for me when I'm choosing which suppliers to go to I consider how they run their business, how they work with clients, what is important to them, what level of service are they going to provide.

My values are at the core of my business.

The service I provide and the way in which I do it is all led by the clients and their needs. I work collaboratively with couples and industry suppliers to give all of them the support they need to deliver the best day for our couples.

I work with honesty and integrity to ensure couples know what to expect from me, the associated fees, how I will work - I am very transparent with this so there are no hidden costs or issues.

And lastly I care a great deal about my couples, I ensure they feel looked after and supported throughout the whole time that we work together and beyond!

ITS YOUR DAY! // Your wedding is your day, you should choose what is important to you. Whether that is having your ceremony at your local church, or having your wedding in your family home, that means so much.

That is why the very first thing you should do when planning your wedding is get together to discuss the non negotiables. What do both of you really want and what details are you not as bothered about.

Keep this in focus at times when the details may be getting you down, or family opinions are making you question your choices.

When you work with me you are at the centre of everything. I do all the research, shortlisting, emails and phonecalls, I do all the budgeting, scheduling, styling and planning to deliver your vision.

"Lucy was fantastic to work with in planning and delivering our recent wedding. We worked with her for approximately a year and a half. She really took the time to get to know us and our priorities for our wedding, and work that into the planning from the start. We considered working with several planners but are so glad we chose Lucy!

Lucy is very professional but couples this with such a friendly and open manner (and a good sense of humour!) which enabled an easy and open relationship with her throughout. DESIGN // One of my favourite bits about planning a wedding is developing the design. ⁣

I always start my process by getting an idea of what the couple likes and what they envisage for their day.

All of my designs are elegant and well thought through, but I don't have a set style. To me, it is important that each wedding suits the couple and their style.

Luckily there is such variety available with furniture, tableware, linen, florals, stationery etc that I can get creative and curate something perfect for my couples!

Planning your wedding should be fun!

By looking after all the researching, shortlisting, emails, calls and meetings involved in planning your wedding I can give you the fun and stress free experience that you should have.

You should enjoy tasting various menus and drinking wonderful wines, without worrying about when and how the caterers will set up, where their kitchens will be and how they will keep the wine cold.

You should get excited about finding your wedding dress, laughing on your hen do and spending time with family and friends. You shouldn't be answering numerous supplier queries on requirements, timings, deliveries and parking!

And on the big day you should feel pampered, loved and truly happy. Your friends and family should be part of that as well, part of the laughter, part of the fizz drinking. No one should be answering last minute calls and dealing with any issues that may have arisen - no one except me that is!
