Witham Wheelers Cycling Club Grantham's Cycling Club since 1958 Weekly club rides cater for all abilities from the beginner to the experienced club cyclist.

Witham Wheelers has over 150 members with ages from 5 to 75 with members taking part in a whole range of activities including Cycle Sportives, Time Trials, Road Races, Track Racing, Mountain Biking, Cyclo-Cross and Triathlons competing at local, regional and national level. We also actively promote weekly club time trials and various open events through the year and are currently expanding our Go-Ride section for our younger riders. Witham Wheelers held their annual round of the Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross league at Stroxton. After spending several man days staking out the course and clearing the woodland all was ready by Saturday lunchtime
However storm Boelo was due to arrive overnight giving dry conditions but 40-50mph winds for race day. Come 8.00am on Sunday a huddle of Commissaires, Organiser and course setter uppers discussed how to get a race on in the gale force winds. It was decided to abandon most of the staked course on the open side of the course and use the new wooded section which provided a sheltered section and a wind break for the timing equipment set up.
This proved ideal for the Youth races and then U12s were able to use just the woods, which also worked well.
For the Seniors and Vets race a section of the open field was brought back into play to lengthen the course. With 50mph gusts at times it felt that just maintaining forward movement was an achievement but at the end everyone said they had enjoyed the course. A great effort by all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that the racing had gone ahead.
Our thanks as ever to David Madge for giving his kind permission to use his land for our races.

Of the club riders taking part Andrew Goddard in his first cross season finished an excellent 10th Vet 50s (22nd overall). Simon Cocker was 5th Vet 60s (44th overall) in his first race of the season after recovering from a broken collar-bone in the summer.

Sunday 25th October
Witham Wheelers have promoted a round of the Lincolnshire cyclo-cross league for many years now. It is currently held on farmland on the lane from Stroxton to Gorse Lane (What3 Words outsize.riverbed.prude)
C-X remains one of the most accessible and fun forms of cycle racing. There are categories for all age groups from under 9 to 70+ and you can use any bike ideally either a racing bike with good wheel clearance and nobbly tyres for grip or a MTB.
Our course is based on grass fields although last year we added a wood section, which went down well with the league regulars. You can either pre-enter through the Lincolnshire C-W web site or on the day, which costs a little bit more.
We will be starting to set the course out on Wednesday 21st evening from 5.00pm and on Saturday (24th Oct) from 9.00am and appreciate as much as possible, as its quite a labour intensive process putting the stakes and tape out. Also any help on the day is much appreciated or come long and have a go. Sign-on starts from 9.15 with the first Youth race starting at 10.15,

As well as the regular Saturday and Sunday club rides we have some additional Dates for the Diary, which are open to anyone interested in the club.

Friday 16th October – Social Evening at the Cricket Club on Gorse Lane, Grantham, from 7.30pm Quiz, Pizza and chat all things cycling.

Saturday 24th October – Setting up Cyclo-Cross course from 9.00am at Stroxton, help required

Sunday 25th October – Help required with Cyclo-Cross races from 9.30am at Stroxton

Wednesday 4th November – Open Committee meeting 7.30pm at the Cricket club – Club members only - come along and see what’s involved in running the club.

Wednesday 25th November – AGM at the Cricket club from 7.30pm

Sunday 6th December – Mince Pie Rides from the Cricket Club 9.00am
