Wild City Glasgow 2018 Alec Finlay and The Walking Library will present WILD CITY for Glasgow 2018

This generous project conceived for Glasgow 2018 is a collaboration between artist Alec Finlay, The Walking Library (Dee Heddon and Misha Myers), and poet Ken Cockburn. Alec Finlay will encourage place-awareness through place-names, translations and community maps, and create a new publication. The Walking Library walks will explore wild nature in the city and collect suggestions for a new ‘Walkin

g Library’ which will be given a permanent home in Glasgow. And Ken Cockburn’s workshops with young people will explore sense of place and experiences of wildness. Wild City’s ambitious program of participative walks, public readings, and workshops, will culminate in a book and blog mapping new walks through rewilded streets.

The Walking Library and Alec Finlay are mapping Glasgow as a wild city | fiadh-bhaile as part of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships Festival and with a range of partners including The Hidden Gardens, RSPB and Govanhill Baths.

We invite you to suggest books for us to walk with.

The first wild city | fiadh-bhaile 'walkshop' Plants & Stories | Planntrais agus Sgeulachdan with Ken Cockburn & Catherine Tinney is on this Sunday 11th March at The Hidden Gardens, Tramway.
Free, drop-in, Gaelic focussed workshop for the family, 1-4:00pm (please note time change)

The first event is part of a series of Gaelic focussed workshops. Plants and Stories: you are invited to take part in a reverse treasure hunt, about plants and their stories. A collaboration between Gaelic Arts/Glasgow Life, and the Hidden Gardens. Planntrais agus Sgeulachdan. Gabhaibh pàirt ann an lorg ionmhas, mu dheidhinn planntrais agus an sgeulachdan. Co-obrachadh eadar Ealain Ghlaschu/Glaschu Beò agus na Gàrraidhean Falaichte.

Alec Finlay and the Walking Library are excited to announce they have been selected to present 'Wild City' for Glasgow 2018.

This generous project conceived for Glasgow 2018 is a collaboration between artist Alec Finlay, The Walking Library (Dee Heddon and Misha Myers), and poet Ken Cockburn. Alec Finlay will encourage place-awareness through place-names, translations and community maps, and create a new publication. The Walking Library walks will survey wild nature in the city and collect suggestions for a new ‘Walking Library’ which will be given a permanent home in Glasgow. And Ken Cockburn’s workshops with young people will explore their sense of place and experiences of wildness. Wild City's ambitious program of participative walks, public readings, and workshops, will culminate in a book and blog mapping new walks through rewilded streets.
