If you are based in West London then we can come to you to discuss your flower requirements. Beryl St Martin
Owner of West London Flowers, has been working with flowers since she was fourteen years old. She learnt her profession the old fashioned way by doing an apprenticeship, but her flowers are anything but old fashioned! Over the years Beryl has worked in all aspects of floristry, everything

from being a contract florist, providing beautiful flower arrangements for top hotels such as the Ritz, Intercontinental and the Park Lane hotel, to running her own shop. She is good at what she does and her enthusiasm is infectious. Becky from “Peony Flowers” and Usha from “Creations by Deeya”
are just a couple of her past students now running their own flower businesses. Other students have had a career change from 9 to 5 office work to
doing something that they love! In 2006 Beryl closed “Flowers etc.”, her beautiful flower shop for a number of years, to do what she enjoys doing most, creating flower arrangements for special occasions be it weddings or to help with a simple and yet beautiful way of saying goodbye. Working from her studio makes it easier for her to meet with clients and have a chat about their wedding flowers at a time and place to suit them. All flowers are bought in fresh for clients individual needs, sourced from the Dutch auction rooms and shipped to the UK over night. Beryl only takes on two weddings each weekend so that her brides get the best of attention from her.

Flowers really do help say that final goodbye. Just received this message.

Dearest Beryl,

Thank-you so much for creating the beautiful flowers for our lovely nan's funeral. The nan tribute was exactly what we wanted and the sunflower tribute from my children was stunning and stood out beautifully. It means so much that you have produced pieces for us at not only our wedding but now to say goodbye to nan. Thank-you again! Look forward to ordering more from you and hopefully the next time will be a happy occasion 😊

Stole this but it's a brilliant explanation why flowers will get more expensive in the future.

In the early stages of Covid-19 (February/March/April 2020) almost every single grower was limited by all Dutch auction to supply only 30% of their entire crop, because of no demand and rock bottom minimum product prices. During many days of the week, all Dutch auctions put many products in their own incinerators as there was zero demand and nobody wanted to buy anything because all EU/worldwide countries were closed for export. The remaining 70% of the growers crop went straight into their own incinerators for destruction. As you can imagine we are talking about £10.000 a day which was lost over a period of several weeks.

As flower crops usually turn into periods of 8 to 10 weeks during that time growers needed to decide how much to plant in their empty glasshouses. The average grower only planted 50% of their usual capacity as times were very uncertain and nobody in the world can afford to incinerate their products for weeks in a row. As many EU countries have lifted restrictions in the past week the demand for flowers and plants has been rising and currently there are simply not enough products to fulfill the demand. Also many of new crop products(seeds & young plants) are coming from countries like Kenya etc. and these products have been difficult to make it into Europe and this situation is still ongoing. For plants this growing period is much longer and we therefore expect for example a gap of supply in phalaenopsis sometime January or February 2021.

On top of that import flowers (South Africa, South America etc) are very limited available because of lack of airfreight. Were pre-Covid we welcomed 3 flights a day from South America, at this moment we be lucky to receive 2 flights a week. This causes airfreight tariffs to increase to sometimes 5 times the price as usual. Many airlines offer airfreight at stupid prices on the bases “take it or leave it”.

So the moral of the whole story is that the demand for products is that high and availability is simply not enough. This will result like any other auction, the price will rise. We estimate this will not be resolved shortly and we will face these results of Covid-19 for months to come. We continue to do our upper best as always, buy the best product for the best prices without jeopardizing the quality.

I hope with the above explanation everybody will have better inside information about what is going on, which we can share with everybody in our industry and the consumer. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at your convenience.
