We were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of one of our former Sheffield students Christine Futter last month.

Christine joined Carney Academy as an original student back in September 2010 and wholeheartedly loved her acting, also becoming a member of the DGP at The Lantern Theatre.

Christine will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of meeting her and in true theatrical style her funeral will involve a horse drawn carriage with purple livery - a fitting tribute to a wonderful lady. The funeral will be held on Wednesday 15th May at 12 noon at Grenoside.

Our thoughts and well wishes are with Christine’s close family and friends ❤️

🎭 A Leap In The Dark 🎭

It’s 100 years since the UK’s first ever radio play and to celebrate, the New Vic theatre in Staffordshire is playing host to the stage adaptation premiere of the comedy originally written by Ron Hutchinson and Alisa Taylor.

The cast play an array of different characters in a story paying homage to the BBC and the invention of audio drama as an art form. This of course all ties in with our theme of work for the Spring term!

A Leap In The Dark was originally commissioned for BBC Radio 4 and you can catch the stage premiere until Saturday 2nd March! Perfect for any of our Carney Cheshire students to go and do some research!

This was taken in Dec 2010, thirteen years ago at the end of Carney’s first ever term where directed a showcase of monologues with the students. It’s now gone full circle where teacher Rhi has just helped to direct the current students in their own monologue showcase!!

🎄 Ho Ho Ho Happy 1st of December! 🎄

Well done to Carney Sheffield student Lacey Beaumont who is currently getting in the Christmas spirit playing an elf at Clifton Park in Rotherham!

Lacey has been a student at Carney Sheffield for 8 years since the age of 10 and we are looking forward to seeing what other acting roles she is going to undertake in the future!

Huge shout out to 2 of our Sheffield students Michaela and Ian!!

Michaela is in the Global Finals of the World Monologue Games 2023 performing “Flutters” by Katie Redford!

Ian took part at the Meals For Monologue event at Manchester Actor Expo performing “Dave” by Joe Penhall.

This also ties in nicely with the theme for our term in both schools - a monologue slam show! Tickets will be available for general purchase very soon so keep your eyes peeled!

The Idol, a short film, is filming at The Lantern Theatre in Sheffield on 23rd April 2023. We are looking for approximately 40 people maximum who would like to take part as supporting artists in our film from 11am until 1pm on the day. The extras have to be aged 16 plus.

The film is directed by Brassic director Ruth Carney, written by Samantha Robinson and produced by Keeley Lane. We have a fantastic crew on board a few who also worked on Sky's brassic. We are able to offer some snacks and refreshments and will of course send you a link to the finished film.

We really hope you'd like to take part and think it will be a lot of fun.
