Ella

Ella with the face paint ❤️ 4 years ago today we threw Ella's last party. A few months after this day she passed away due to an incurable brain tumour. Ella Fest was her farewell bash. I remember that day so well. Ella was in FULL POWER kid mode. Here we played musical statues and she refused to sit down. Joker! She was full of smiles, a bundle of joy, and funny, and silly, and cheeky. Looking around, hearts were breaking. But hers was magnificently full as she bounced between friends. She was delightfully moody when the family wanted to orchestrate a photo in front of giant wooden letters that read E-L-L-A-F-E-S-T across the field. She didn't have time for a boring photo - she had playing to do! I remember thinking that was a moment that might have usually been frustrating. But it just seemed magical. It felt so rich and real and precious. A little bundle of childhood too busy being in the very moment the photographer wanted to capture. Being a kid. Wherever you are, Ella, we love you and remember you. And we thank you for teaching us so so much. 🫶❤️🕊

When we take away all control, kids can shut off and be defiant out of principle. To save a war of attrition, a way out can be to give them two choices that both work for you. This way you get what you wanted and your child regains a sense of autonomy. 🫶

The broad point is super obvious of course… but the Mario reference might land well with your kids. The point of Super Mario is that you need to dodge shells and traps, and because or it takes you 5 tries to make it. That’s why it’s worth it! Imagine how boring it would be if you just ran straight to the end of the level. The same can apply to many things in their day, if only they can see it that way!

Academy of Awesome

Academy of Awesome smashed it out the park this week. One 11 year old told us, “I feel like I’m going to miss holiday club more after being here three days than I’ll miss school after being there six years!” We squeeze a whole lot of fun into your child’s week, filling their socks with all the thrilling n’ chilling they could possibly need! Cardboard Battle

Box Battles 🥊 The kids’ imaginations went so far making this happen, we just couldn’t help ourselves with this edit! 👑🤖 We’re opening our very own studio in Frome and this got us thinking: what if we ran a whole bunch of clubs that were for children to attend WITH their grown-ups? Working together, kids could turn their grown-ups into ‘battle boxes’ that have dance-offs and play fights! Same goes for yoga, fitness, dance, old school game nights (who remembers Subbutio and Scalextics?)… We want to give families more opportunities to be awesome TOGETHER! ❤️Watch this space.
