Lambert's White Dove Release - Brighton Releasing beautiful white doves in Sussex at weddings, funerals, memorials and all special occasions

Whether sending a message to a loved one or celebrating and flying excitedly toward something new, releasing the past with gratitude and love is something often forgotten but so important to do... and a dove release offers us a unique and truly magical way to do it. We are the only professional dove release company in Sussex organizing releases for weddings, funerals + all special occasions. Roote

d in over four decades of experience, passion for our work and our doves runs through our veins. With their welfare always paramount, we raise and train them from purpose built sheds in our gardens, where they fly free every day. They always travel in spacious wicker baskets (decorated with flowers to match your colour theme), and on release, whether by hand or from the basket, they rise and circle to orientate, then together head off home... (often returning before we do because their GPS works far better than ours! ;) )
Our older birds know the routine and sit comfortably when held, even by young children, though our younger birds can wriggle in their impatience to be off, so releases are always accompanied by trained handlers who guide guests through the whole process, including how to hold them. Read our reviews on the page here to get a sense of the joy that is released as the doves fly, and message Laura and Viv to book a release and ensure magical memories are created at your event.

It pays to know your good flyers, and here are 5 of the best. They’re flying into strong headwinds as they come back from today, bringing with them a ton of love sent off by the young daughters, and of a young woman who flew too soon. Fly safe birdies, fly safe Gemma, knowing you are well loved always! 🕊️💞🕊️💞🕊️💞🕊️

According to Sussex Wildlife Trust a change in agricultural practises, habitat loss and overseas hunting have contributed to a shocking 99% decline in doves/pigeons since the 1960s, yet they are one of the most intelligent birds on the planet. Respect and care is the least they deserve and companies like ours help ensure the beauty and symbolism of white doves lives on! 🕊️🕊️🕊️❤️

On this date in history (September 1, 1914), a creature named Martha drew her last breath, and an entire species vanished from the face of the Earth. 🕊️

Martha was the last known passenger pigeon, a bird that once numbered in the billions and darkened the skies of North America for days as their flocks passed overhead.

Their flocks were so immense that early accounts described them as living rivers in the sky, a mile wide and hundreds of miles long, containing billions of birds.

In just a few short decades, their population went from being the most numerous bird on the continent to complete extinction.

This catastrophic decline was a direct result of relentless overhunting and widespread habitat destruction throughout the 19th century.

They were hunted for cheap meat, for sport, and as agricultural pests. The commercial scale of the hunting was something we can hardly comprehend today.

By the early 1900s, only a small captive flock remained. One by one, they passed away until only Martha was left, living out her final years at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Her death at approximately 1 p.m. on that September day was a quiet, solemn moment that marked a tragic milestone in history. 😢

It served as a powerful and sobering lesson on how quickly a species, no matter how abundant, can be lost forever due to human actions.

Martha's body was carefully preserved, and she remains on display at the Smithsonian Institution as a permanent reminder of her lost species.

What a great initiative! ❤️

Scientists are tapping into the remarkable intelligence of magpies and crows by training them to pick up litter in parks in exchange for food rewards. These birds, known for their problem-solving skills and memory, are being taught to collect small pieces of trash like cigarette butts, wrappers, and bottle caps and deposit them into specially designed bins. Each successful drop triggers a dispenser that releases a food treat, reinforcing the behavior.

This approach not only cleans public spaces in an eco-friendly way but also highlights how animal intelligence can be harnessed to support environmental efforts. Crows and magpies are ideal for this task—they're naturally curious, highly trainable, and already known for using tools in the wild.

The initiative also raises awareness about littering and showcases creative, low-impact solutions to urban waste management. By turning wild birds into active participants in recycling efforts, scientists are blending behavioral science, conservation, and community action in a novel and engaging way.

It’s a fascinating example of how nature can be a partner in sustainability when paired with the right training and technology.

I’ve done hundreds of funeral dove releases and it’s rare something makes me cringe but cringe I did yesterday when a woman I mistakenly offered a hand wipe to after 10 people held and released a dove, sneered and said “I didn’t hold one, they’re VERMIN!”
What an incredibly sad way to view something so intelligent and beautiful!!!!
This article explains what an amazing addition they make to our planet and how incredibly intelligent they are. The only correction I’d make to it is to draw a closer connection because doves are pigeons. They are all part of the columbidae family and although some have the ability to home, not all species do. Street pigeons don’t, nor do fantail doves or other fancy breeds. But all are intelligent, sensitive, brave, resilient and resourceful birds who deserve our respect and care. 🤍🕊️🕊️🕊️

THESE INCREDIBLE FEATHERED SOULS ARE NOT ONLY DEVOTED PARTNERS, THEY ARE HIGHLY INTELLIGENT & COMPLEX BEINGS...so many do not know that pigeons, have tiny magnetic crystals in their beaks that work like biological compasses...so they can sense Earth’s magnetic field and can use it to navigate thousands of miles, as well as as being able to detect sounds too low for humans to hear and read polarized light patterns in the sky...scientists have found they can count, recognize themselves in mirrors, learn abstract concepts, and even understand probability...they actually are in the top ten of intelligent beings on this planet, and some studies show they perform better than young children on certain cognitive tests...humans see only three primary colors, pigeons see four, including ultraviolet light so they can see patterns on each other’s feathers that are completely invisible to us...and they produce a protein-rich “crop milk” in their throat to feed their babies, along with doves, flamingos, and emperor penguins...and these amazing birds can fly over 60 mph in sustained flight..they also form lifelong partnerships, but their “divorce rate” changes based on environmental stress, as it does for all species..pigeons use different types of calls for different purposes and they can recognize individual voices over long distances and have specific “words” for danger, territory, and courtship...and they helped humans during the war, one named Cher Ami lost on of her legs sending a message tied to her other leg, saving 194 soldiers...they need our help as they were once domesticated and then we abandoned them in the wild, once most were done with them...but they stuck around humans in cities as they are used to us, so feed them oats, bird seed and leave water out for them...PIGEONS ARE NOT "PESTS", THEY ARE THOUGHTFUL SOULS THAT SHOULD BE PROTECTED & LIKE ALL SENTIENT BEINGS, DESERVE OUR EMPATHY -- Animal Freedom Fighter
