1st Day of the 5 day Diwali celebrations.. Today is known as Govatsa Dwadashi.. Go or Govu means a cow 🐄. She is revered as a mother (Gomata) in Hindu mythology and prayed to, in many parts of India and worldwide by Hindus who are celebrating Nandini vrat. Nandini was the daughter of the celestial cow Kamadhenu and lived in the ashram/cottage of Sage Vasishtha. Devotees bathe and drape cows and calves with beautiful cloths and flower garlands and tilak/vermillion is put on their foreheads. They are fed mung bean, gram and other wheat products. Many sing songs of the love of Lord Krishna for cows and abstain from eating milk and wheat products on this day. On another note, today is the last day to order the Diwali party pack and receive it in time for Diwali this Thursday. You could order tomorrow but you'd have to opt for express shipping for it to reach in time. I've used removable glu dots by @bostiksmartadhesives and the removable mini command hooks by @command to put up the paper swirls and the banner. This was a lovely custom Diwali card order by the organic mum-made brand called Mumsome Foods UK , based in Manchester. The website is www.mumsome.co.uk This is an organic baby and new mother foods brand made by a mum herself. Deepa started her journey in 2012, after she had her little boy born prematurely and had to discontinue her masters in Biotechnology. She found there weren't organic foods for new mums available readily in the UK, recommended by her own mum. These are own family recipes and are so beneficial to regain strength for lactating mothers 🤱. There are foods suitable for weaning babies👶 who are starting their first solid foods. These mini A6 cards and gold envelopes will go into all her orders leading to Diwali, and I couldn't be more pleased that another small business is supporting my small business. 😀 How are your Diwali/Halloween preparations going? Today I'm sharing all the materials and dimensions of the DIY Square grid & detachable palavelli/puja mandap, so you can make it yourself I made the Square grid inspired by Roopini of @letsmakeitlovely and Vijaya @smartmakingbyvijaya. This detachable mandap/palavelli design is by Purnima of @nimasonti on her blog nimasonti.com Why make it & share it again when they've all shown how to make it? It's because all the dimensions & links refer to US stores & I've made it all with materials I bought here in the UK. Raw materials: 1. 2 x11 sqmm square wood strips from B&Q, 2.4m long each - cut into 60cm long strips 2. 2 × (18mm ×90cm) round dowels - @bandq_uk 3. 10 × 20mm dia Neodymium magnets (@amazon) 4. 16mm thin nails (B&Q) 5. Wood varnish - tiny pot from BnQ (Haven't coated it yet) 6. No Nails- not used it even though tried it. 7. Brown acrylic paint - @whsmith Making the stand: I bought 11sq mm square wood strips from B&Q, they are 2.4m long. They were trimmed to 60cm long strips and made grids of 3×3 squares, so 4 strips on each direction - 2 strips of 2.4m are enough. I'd bought more than 2 as I wanted to make more square grids. I used No Nails to glue the square strips together but they didn't hold as I kept moving the stand before it dried and also the surface area was too less for it to hold. Then used Super Glue and finally small nails to make the grids. The legs for making the square stand into mandap are 180mm dowels from BnQ. They are 90cm long, used electric saw and cut them to 45 cm long. I bought 20mm wide High Strength Neodymium magnets from Amazon and hot glued them on all 4 dowls and all 4 corners of the square grid. The remaining two magnets can be used for another project. 4 squares were fixed to the dowels so as to make them as flat bases for the palavelli to be on the legs and screwed to the dowels. I just painted the squares brown to hide the imperfections on the mdf squares. If anyone makes these stands, please do share.
