Brighton's only independent cinema returns tonight (Friday March 8th) with a Martin Scorsese film no less, and then running special film screening dates all the way up until the end of May. Check out the very cool things happening in the next few weeks that include everything from a 2024 Best Picture nominee to a visionary director of A24 films, to a Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford flick that revolutionised Hollywood. Wow Brighton, just wow!

Well, we can't quite believe this but... this coming March we are going to be doing something very special to celebrate 16 years of It Is Still 1985 Every Saturday. That's right, 16 flipping years.

Of course since 2019 we have been running every Saturday at Green Door Store, and it's amazing (truly), long may that continue... but for this we thought we would do something extra special for our 16th birthday. It's all happening in conjunction with some of our friends in central Brighton, and it's all going down on the evening of Good Friday (March 29th) which is a Bank Holiday so you will likely have the day off.

Filled with SNL regulars headed by Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan it’s not only the greatest use of Haddaway's 'What is Love?' in cinema history, but also a hilarious cult classic with a warmth that belies its characters shallow ideals.

The second film in this epic double is the original Zoolander movie with male supermodel extraordinaire Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and his sidekick Hansel (Owen Wilson) who must thwart the plans of the world’s most evil fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrel) mostly by being really, really… really ridiculously good looking. Famed counter-culture director Hal Ashby who would go on to create a list of era defining classics including The Last Detail, Shampoo, Bound For Glory, Coming Home, and Being There, first rose to prominence with his unorthodox but heart-warming tale of two societal misfits.

Both riotously morbid and joyously life-affirming it follows the friendship of the young well to do oddball suicide-faking Harold who is suffocated by his wealthy family's societal expectations and his new companion the equally kooky soon to be octogenarian Maude who offers a bohemian and generous vision of life that gently coaxes Harold away from his existence of alienation.

Initially a box office flop it has blossomed into one of THE true all time cult classics beloved by audiences and influencing the likes of Wes Anderson, Judd Apatow and Sophia Coppola.
