Seascale Gala Week 17th to 22nd June 2024 Celebrating 175 years of the village and helping boost membership to all its clubs and associations

Seascale Gala Week was an annual celebration in Seascale, Cumbria, which was reintroduced in 2024 for one year only to commemorate the village's 175th anniversary. Held from June 17 to June 22, the event highlighted the historical significance of the arrival of the railways in Seascale, a development that modernised the village.

The gala featured 28 events over 7 days, including a traditional parade, line dancing, brass bands, bouncy castles, arts and crafts stalls, and showcases from community groups. The festivities aimed to strengthen community ties and promote local organisations.

A central highlight of the event was the parade, which concluded with entertainment at the village's recreation ground. This included fundraising activities and educational initiatives from local organizations. The gala revived a tradition that was popular in Seascale during the early to mid-20th century and is now looking for a new organiser to carry it on.

We are now at the half way point in Gala week with this is event number 14 out of 28. Come down right now and see what West Lakes Dogs do. They are very good at obedience training and are a very friendly club to become a member of.

Day 4 of Gala week begins with Phoenix Praise right now at the Methodist church. Come along and find out how you can sing for pleasure. Next up day we have West Lakes Dog training at the recreation ground at 5 pm, then Shackles Off BBQ for the over 11 age group at the old vicarage at 6 pm. Also at 6 pm we have Knit in public, wool and needles provided to join in with at the Library, and at 6:30 to finish of Day 4 we have the Royal British Legion with a tea and talk at St Cuthbert's church until 7:30. Come on down.
