As well as providing “The Best Fit for your Big Day” wedding dress alterations – your Prom day / evening can be just as significant and probably the first ‘Big Day’ opportunity to wear a dress.
That’s why it is important we get it right for you.
It may be that your purchased ‘off-the-peg’ prom dress is simply too long – so then you need a length alteration. (Prices start from £35.00)
It might be the bodice or upper part of the dress is too big or lacks ‘body’ on the bust – I can provide a ‘non-surgical’ lift from just £25.00
Perhaps you really don’t like some of the embellishments on the dress – too many - not enough or they cheapen the look of an otherwise, well-fitting dress.
There are no problems – just non-surgical solutions when you come to Tinkerbelle the Tailor
So here’s what we need to consider.
Length alterations
If you need a length alteration, please consider the height and style of shoe you will wear. It may be obvious that a higher shoe will mean less off the length of your dress but you would be surprised how many ladies turn up for a fitting without their shoes!
Also, you may need to pay attention to the type of material verses the construction of your shoe. My memory of wearing a long flowing chiffon dress to a black tie do with slip on shoes – combined with climbing up a flight of stairs nearly ended in disaster! Equally, if the shoe has a rough finish, diamantes or any embellishment, material from the dress could potentially drag on this and ladder or rip. There are ways around this but usually it means taking the dress up to be a little shorter.
Bodice or upper dress adjustments
So you bought a dress on line, providing your measurements well in advance and even accounted for the hold up in customs to pay the extra import tax.
Well done you. But then it arrives…
It’s too tight! The length is pretty ‘bob-on’ but you can’t even get the zipper past your waist line. Believe me, I have helped with many last minute and/or panic stricken girls and ladies that ask – what can you do? With that hopeless look of frustration, desperation and often tears.
We can do a lot here. But please, before you take a note of my number and start to text me in panic mode there are a few options to consider. I will need to see you in the dress to establish the best way to rescue your day here. Some dress styles won’t suit all the alterations I offer below:
Option 1: Let the dress out at the side panels
This is the most cost effective way but can only be achieved if it only needs letting out a small amount and there is enough seam material inside the dress. That’s why I will always need to see you in my dress surgery first.
Option 2: Add a lace up back
This is by far the most positive way to ensure your dress will always fit you going forward. A lace-up back can really enhance the back of a dress, adding an elegance it didn’t have before. And because it fits like a shoe lace, if you do put on or take off a few pounds, this option will provide you with flexibility. However; there are three things to consider here – will the dress suit a lace up back design – not all do.
Can you get hold of a matching material to add the lace a panel piece? If taking up the length on your dress – great, we can use the off cut as an exact match. Or else we could look to get a contrasting colour. It is the most expensive option – but it is the best one! Prices from £75
