Today, we reflect on the tragic loss of Liam Payne, former One Direction star, whose young life has touched so many through his music and presence. His sudden passing reminds us all of the importance of mental health awareness and the struggles with addiction that many face in silence.

If you or someone you know is dealing with suicidal thoughts, mental health issues or addiction, please know that you're not alone. There are people and resources available to help nationally and locally.

We’ll tag some resources that may be of use to you, should you need that help and support. Reach out, listen, and be there for one another.

Perth Crematorium has raised £11,600 for local charity Lighthouse Perth through a national metal recycling scheme.

Representatives from the mental health charity visited the crematorium to receive the donation last week.

The scheme, which is run in crematoriums right across the UK, sees metals from coffins and any metal orthopaedic implants recycled, with the consent of families.

Perth Crematorium receives an annual payment from the scheme which is donated to a local charity.

Donations totalling over £84,000 have been made so far, including:
• 2020 – Clic £8,000
• 2021 – CHAS £10,000
• 2022 – Air Ambulance £15,000
• 2023 – CHAS £14,000
• 2024 – Lighthouse Perth £11,600

Having published a blog by an embalmer…. we’re now balancing things up with Kimberly McGill’s account of why embalming really isn’t necessary as a matter of course. Not only is Kimberly a Funeral Assistant with Gibson of Tayside, but she’s also one of the founders of Coffin Club Dundee! Ov...

A message from our Burials and Cremation Team

Each service at Perth Crematorium is a deeply personal experience for family and friends and we want to give everyone the time and space to pay their respects and share their memories of their loved one in their own way.

To allow guests at every service to take that time for themselves, we ask that if you are attending a service you arrive no more than 20 minutes before the scheduled service time. We can have several services in a day and if you arrive too early you may unintentionally be encroaching on another family's time. You are also likely to find it easier to park if you arrive after the early service has already departed our car park.

Thank you for your understanding and support to ensure that everyone can have the time and space they need during their moment of grief.

What can Coffin Club do for you?

We aim to end the taboo of discussing death.

We provide you with a ‘wishlist’ which is a live document, which you can keep working on. This will help your family and friends know your choices come the time of your death, give you good topics to start discussions with and we can guarantee there will be things you haven't even thought of!

We aim to educate you on all your options for your end of life celebrations including burial, cremation and the other options not yet widely available yet in the UK such as Water Cremation and Human Composting (something we are very passionate about!)

We invite guest speakers to come along too – these include

🔸️Bequeathal manager - Body Donation @ Dundee 🔸️University
🔸️Natural Burial Ground Manager @ Cairnbrae
🔸️Funeral Director @ Gibson of Tayport
🔸️Celebrant @ Angela Maughan Ceremonies
🔸️Soul Midwife
🔸️Mortuary Manager/Anatomical Pathology Technician Hospital
🔸️Bereavement Support Service @ Roxburghe House
🔸️Service Manager @ Funeral Link (funeral poverty advice)
🔸️Pushing up the Daisies (support and guidance to keep deceased at home after death).

We are a registered Scottish Charity so we fundraise to allow these sessions to run to the public free of charge!
