This made me smile

I'm currently doing a new business course with Go Succeed and I was asked to research what came up in terms of Google for Truffleupagus Vegan Yums and my full name Sheena Bleakney

Then I tried lots of different combinations such as vegan catering,Belfast,sheena vegan etc

Look what came up

This adorable little book written by Jon Wright Wuthering about a little punk kid called Sheena who is a vegan . She even has my hair and freckles lol.
I couldn't resist getting it lol

The story is very sweet and would be a cool intro to talking to children about where meat and cheese come from and getting them to listen to some decent sounds like Crass and Rudimentary Peni, Flux and Poison Girls

Just had the most fab lumpia from KUBO.BELFAST in their just open today, cafe /restaurant in GtNorthern Mall

Absolutely delicious crisp spring roll wrappers , not at all greasy ..filled with noodle and veggies and a ginger garlic and Vinegar dipping sauce
Nallane is so friendly and makes you feel really welcome in this brand new space

Generous portions , great value, amazing food
100 pc can't wait to go back and try the potato and the aubergine dish. They also use separate fryers for vegan items ###

FULLY BOOKED FOR BOTH DATES THANK YOU ###XX

I have a wee cheeky sneaky surprise for you .

Demand for the Christmas Hampers has been at an all time high and there just is no room even to squeeze in a wafer thin mint (what movie is that from?)

However I can offer a selection of centrepiece pies for your freezer . Collection only on the 14th or 15th December

You can eat them fresh within 2 days or freeze them for Christmas day .

I can also arrange for desserts for those dates but unfortunately they would have to be eaten within 3 days and therefore wouldn't suit Christmas day.

So just a pm for this selection with any questions and prices

So this has been on my mind for a while and I'm hoping that you lovely lot can come up with some advice and help

People are struggling , financially, we know that . And food banks are becoming increasingly used and needed.
I've often wondered about what is available for vegan families if they go to a food bank and obvs if I drop off a few items at Tesco it's always vegan

But I knew it wasn't possible to ensure that those items went to a vegan family or individual . I mean....it is just food after all and everyone is equally deserving

I even bought one of those brown bags Tesco had, to fill with vegan items but once I paid for it at the till I was told the items would be separated anyway

I approached a couple of local charities that have food banks attached to find out is there a way to get much needed items to vegan families and they told me that they had vegan families on their lists
But after much discussion,it turned out they were halal or gluten free (sigh)

It seems vegan families are possibly not approaching food banks as there is no provision made for them, or at least very limited resources.

But hear this ..one charity I spoke to today told me that they pay for the items to give to the families

I honestly could not believe my ears and asked her to repeat 5 times

So you ..the customer, buys an item at full cost from Tesco to put it into Tesco (eg) basket to make it appear that Tesco give this food directly to food banks
No
It goes to a middle man ...a company who distribute to charities . The charities apply for the food and on some...not all occassions, and depending on criteria, have to BUY the already paid for food BACK to give to their service users .
And get this ...the service users are only allowed a max of £30 worth of food per week .

I mean...I have no words

I have many questions
Can we as a community that already opposes injustice do anything to completely bypass this unbelievable system to help people struggling Directly ?
The charity I spoke to today URGED people to go out of their way a little and give directly to food banks. Totally leave out the Tesco part and the middle man .

This doesn't solve the issue of how to ensure (at least some) of your donations are going to benefit vegan families

Has anyone ideas?
Or already established food support for vegan people?

So apologies for the long post ....but it has been on my mind a long time and I wanted to write about it in the hope that we can share as a community and perhaps work to solve a problem ###

I only ordered it on Friday after a 2 day trawl around all the usual suspects didn't have what I needed .

Either too small,too large,no NI delivery, too expensive etc

I'd not heard of theses guys truth be told but I checked out their website and its a huge business with great reviews

Anyhow....this fridge came today and the guys went above and beyond with delivery

So thank you

The added bonus is the fridge is so big I can hide in it if things get too much lol

Where are we with fruit in with savoury food?

I'll let you into a secret ..I was a private chef once for quite a high profile client ...it was a gorgeous job ..however under no circumstances was I to use fruit in any dish
Eg ..Mango chutney with a curry
Dried or fresh berries in a salad etc

It was the sweet savoury balance that was taboo in that home (so dramatic lol).

What are your thoughts ?
Like is there a fruit too far?
Pineapple on a pizza springs to mind

What about Banana in a savoury dish?
My mum used to make a curry when I was a kid (in the 1970s) and it was Banana, onion and a boiled e**...it was highly exotic and unusual for working class East Belfast . I'd love to know how on earth she came up with the recipe ..and to be fair she made the curry sauce from scratch and it was actually very nice ...*reminder to self to try it again and see if it stands the test of time *

Beautiful as my mum was.... Her culinary skills were very 1950s so this very probably came from the Readers Digest recipe cards ...now who remembers THOSE??

Had some gorgeous friends over last night for dinner and it was such a lovely,lovely night .
I made lasagne and Moussaka and a Goddess Glow salad . And my frenz brought everything from plant kitchen coleslaw( it's absolutely unbelievably delicious) to home made salads,sweets and crisps to share . So there was a mountain of food .
Sean made us all his yummy medjool dates with peanut butter and siracha dipped in chocolate. Heaven .
Such a nourishing evening full of great convos and great food and it's powered me up for the next few weeks of hard work.

Forgot to tell you
The main man treated me to dinner last night at Jumon Restaurant as a wee surprise and treat
He knows things are gonna be so busy over the next few weeks and it was so lovely
I always order the malaka laksa ....its just divine and I love the new addition of a flat crimped noodle instead of a ramen type.
Sean got the Hungley..equally fine...slightly sweeter and not as spicy with a chow mein shape noodle and crispy poppadoms
I'm so excited to try the new Jumon Dreams at Cs Lewis Sq which is dangerously close to me lol

Have you been to Jumon and what is your order?

O MY GOODNESS ME..due to UNBELIEVABLE demand I have currently had to close the books for the Christmas Hampers
I can't even begin to tell you how fast the orders came in but I am beyond grateful . Every year it just means so much to me that people are having a cruelty free Christmas and this year has been the biggest ever . I wish I could feed everyone but I have to set a limit so that quality,freshness and love go into each order . I NEVER want to churn stuff out meaninglessly

I will figure out a date that will hopefully suit a few more people and for you to get some pies in the freezer ....but for now the fresh food is all booked

Tubs of nutty yeast!

The lid never fits properly after the first open and the tub is just ever so too wide to fit into a small hand ...resulting in constant spills and tub drops
I dropped a whole tub over the floor this morning and natch ...cos the lid wasn't tight it went everywhere

Who else experiences this and what do we do?

If you are out and about where can you find some Yums?
Well, I've got all the fab markets upcoming.
Each one will have a different menu and a huge range of sweet and savoury at both
Seven Coffee will be stocked with 3 types of sosage roll and sweet treats on Friday
And there will be Yuzu cheesecakes and Banoffe pies heading to Ragin Ramen on Friday too.
Speaking of Seven ...I will be sending a wee message to everyone who has booked by the weekend ..there is still 1 table for 2 or 4 available for the 730 time slot xx

And this year ,again,the fab people over at Acton & Sons will be serving this year's brand new Mushroom and Chestnut nut roast as part of their Vegan menu. Thanks to them for supoorting my business for the 4th year in a row . Their sister restaurant Tom’s Bangor will also have them on the menu .THis will be available from the end of Next week .

The mushroom and chestnut roast is also available on the Christmas delivery menu which, if you are thinking of ordering anything from,I would highly recommend you do so soon as it is already over 80 pc booked....I've got all the order forms and just going through them before the weekend
So expect a reply by then ###

That's it for this week. I'm having some gorgeous frenz over at the weekend and will,of course,be cooking for them too,...but it will be my last night to let my hair down until Xmas is over (waaaa) so I am so looking forward to it ###

Just an update for those already requesting info on this year's Christmas Hampers 1.Yes ...I'll be doing them 2.We will make the video over Halloween and website bookings with go live by the 9th November at the latest . 3. This year's menu will be the biggest ever And will contain fresh good for the day and a huge range of home made frozen items to stock up on too 4. Plenty of Gf and vegan options 5. Delivery 30 mile radius of Belfast over two days 6.No huge price hoiks. 7.Made with peace and love

Wakey Wakey ...Mog has been busy making dough preparing for today's orders He's been up all night baking so you can have fresh yums .... Pastry , Bread. Croissants..you name it !!! (Ps no cats are used in the baking process ..especially their stinky wee feet lol)

So...I got to the beach today though I didn't quite walk barefoot. Instead .. I took a nap There is something so delicious about an impromptu, open air nap that everyone should try it I snuggled into the sand dunes as shelter with the sea to my front and dozed for about ten minutes . Not a single person around and just the noise of the sea . Bliss. Mind you,I'd been up from 330 am to accompany Sean at his car boot sale in ###### and also took a 2 and a half hour walk ,so I think I deserved it ..lol. So can you guess where I am?

We organized a lovely vegan picnic in Botanic gardens yesterday and met up with a lot of lovely new people and some very familiar friends . It was lovely to just chill with like-minded people and we joked it was a wee mini vegan campout lol Sean and I hope to organize more in the future so if you would love to come and meet other vegans and have a bit of craic ...follow our Speaking up for the animals page where we will make any announcements about future plans . It's our page for activism also ...but we respect that not for everyone ...but keep a wee eye and we will put up our socials too☮️💜
