For a couple of weeks, just before Christmas, Father and Mother Christmas are planning to visit the Whitehouse Community Hub. You might remember them from Blue Diamond in previous years. We are still planning how the visit will be managed ro make it affordable, so that as many children as possible will get an opportunity to speak to them and receive a small present.
We've seen Father Christmas today at the Community Cafe when he popped in to have a chat about arrangements with Mother Christmas. You should see his beard, wow! Yes, it really is real. It's still growing well.
Mother Christmas is hoping to have a story time, maybe 2 if there are lots of children, it will be around the last day of term.......And on Saturday 16th Dec, we plan to have a community breakfast, stalls and some activities. :-)
Maybe there are some mummies out there who can take turns and help Mother Christmas and the pixies for a while? If so, please drop us a message on the Tupsley Whitehouse Community HUB page, or pop a letter through our letter box addressed to Mother Christmas.
If you or your children are going into the woods at the top of Grandison Rise, beware, there is a huge hornet nest there.
Monday Community Walks.
Today's Community Walk took us through the Quarry and around the estate by passing Angela Walk then back up Hampton Dene Rd.
We passed a hedge heaving with birds twittering away.
An interview with Keith, our Chairman. Sorry that I ran out of power just at the end.
And the Whitehouse Dog is named! Well done Kelly Read :-)
We had a Christmas Card off the Coop Pioneers.
Keith and George are getting the fireplace ready for our Christmas activities.
Look how hard we work for our lovely community. :-) Sorry that the recording ran out just before the end.
Thank you to everyone who supported or work at the Whitehouse today, also to everyone who helped. We raised £462.56 :-)
I found Fred finishing off the sweeping at 1pm. Fred has between tidying up around Chilton Square and the Community Hub for about a year now. Do you remember how dirty it used to be with chip papers, bottles and all sorts of other rubbish? Thank you Fred for being a star volunteer :-)
This week we walked around the Quarry Park and stopped to take in an awesome sight. We would like to say thank you to Mr and Mrs Oliver who so kindly opened up their garden to us yesterday during our weekly walk. It was a feast for the eyes and such a privilege. We were also treated to a cup of tea, which we weren't expecting either. They have recently raised well over £150 through having an open garden which go toward a Defribulator to be placed at the Maylord Shopping Centre.
Paul, George and Keith busy at work today. They have taken down those really ugly cupboards between the kitchenette and Whittern room. Someone has just had their kitchen replaced and they have kindly given us the one that was taken out. So some of those cupboards will go there to extend the kitchenette and give us more practical cupboards and some more work surface.
We always welcome volunteers, gifts in keep and so forth. Just pm us or call in and ask for Keith.
George was happy whilst painting the floor :-)
What lovely day we had yesterday. Firstly we had our weekly 'Drop 'In', then some of us went to the 'Hereford Councils Community Awards" evening where we took second place. There was a special mention with regards to our efforts in combatting loneliness and isolation , especially among older people. Second place was £500. Thank you to all our of volunteers, Keith and Anita and the Whitehouse Board :-)
We had such a lovely evening tonight at our community 'Fish and Chip Supper' there was lots of laughter, banter and plenty of good food.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the evening such a success and to the chip shop in Chilton Square for delivering a delicious meal that was piping hot.
Some things are just not easy or straight forward. Our saga with the pampas grass began with Fred and ended up with Paul and Keith finally pulling it up, (with some help from Greta and George along the way). If gardening is your thing and you want to be involved why not pop in and ask for Keith or Carol. Alternately private message us on Facebook.
