K-Klass
Let Me Show You

While we’re still buzzing from a cracking Carnivalism at the Cross Guns last weekend, it made sense to pull one out the bag that filled the dance floor and caused a mass singalong.

My nephew rummaged the archives and played a K-Klass classic that I bought on vinyl way back in the 90s. Good times indeed watching the next-gen take the DJ baton.

Fun fact: K-Klass are originally from Wrexham and Chester. “Let Me Show You,” reached #13 on the UK Singles Chart in 1993, and is obviously still a big Carnivalism crowd-pleaser today.

Shout out to the all the fuzzy heads, and everyone licking their wounds at the day job today.

WHAT A DAY we had on Saturday, when Carnivalism brought the party back to the Cross Guns terrace.

As well as BOA, Westwood, Turley, Winsley and Trowers, we had Dubai, London, Wales, Bristol and Reading representing too. Clans united, the weather held, memories made.

Hospitality is still reeling from the effects of lockdown & cozzie livs. Bars, festivals, and venues are shutting down all over, so now more than ever your support for small indie events like this is truly appreciated.

Big, big thanks go out to:
all the staff who worked so hard at giving us all hangovers. Em and her decoration crew - Toni, Claire, Marsha, Ruby, Mal.
Jeremy for the excellent PA. Brendan “Moonflower” Bennett, for lighting up the place. Dave “smoke machine gun” Mars. Birthday boy Carl & his VIP party crew bringing the energy. And big ups to our guest DJs Sojebeats & Louis Mars for rocking it.

Finally, thanks to all our old friends for always dancing with us, and the new ones who came down just to check out what the noise was all about. Hope you enjoyed the vibe, and welcome to the Carnivalism crew. Remember to tag us in your pics or reach out and say hi.
Let’s do it again!

On behalf of Dom, Emma & myself, WE LOVE YOU ###

CARNIVALISM FRIDAYS
🎶 What You Won’t Do for Love - Roy Ayers 🎶
Roy Ayers’ take on the classic “What You Won’t Do for Love” is pure magic!

This smooth and soulful rendition infuses Ayers’ signature vibraphone and jazzy style, transforming the song into an irresistible groove. His unique touch brings a fresh, vibrant energy that’s perfect for those chilled summer evenings. ☀️✨

And while we are in the summer mood, remember that tomorrow we take over the Cross Guns. Epic tunes, and a jaw-dropping backdrop at one of the most picturesque boozers. Carnivalism’s Soundsystem returns to The Cross Guns, serving up delectable beats from daytime into the night. This is the summer vibe you didn’t know you needed.

Re-visiting a habit from a decade ago. Carnivalism Fridays - picking a track from the crates to get you in the mood for the weekend - just for fun like.

Using Glasto lineup as inspiration here’s “Disco Infiltrator” by LCD Soundsystem—a proper tune!

Can’t wait to see them at Glastonbury this year. If you fancy a twist, give the Stanton Warriors’ remix a listen—it’s a cracking take from 2010 which was always found in matt’s record bag. Death from Above record label is a big influence in both Dom & Matt’s music collection who both lean on Disco & Nu Disco in their eclectic sets.

LCD Soundsystem, an American rock band from Brooklyn, was formed in 2002 by James Murphy, co-founder of DFA Records. The band features Murphy, Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney, Tyler Pope, Al Doyle, Matt Thornley, and Korey Richey.

Initially signed to DFA, they joined Columbia Records in 2016. Known for singles like “Losing My Edge,” they released their acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2005, earning a Grammy nomination. Their 2007 album, *Sound of Silver*, also received critical praise and Grammy nods. After disbanding in 2011 with a farewell concert documented in *Shut Up and Play the Hits*, they reunited in 2015, releasing *American Dream* in 2017, which became their first number-one album in the U.S. and earned a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for the single “Tonite”.

Stumbled across this old screengrab from one of our Twitch shows back in lockdown.

During those tough times, we brought amazing people together for chat and dance. Old and new friends joined in from near and far, across timezones and around the world. Our little chat room was buzzing, and we raised a ton of cash for charities like the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We’ll no doubt fire up the webcams again soon, but for now, we’re gearing up for our next real-life event at on July 13th. Dancing in the sun and making memories.

Hope to see you there!

***I’VE FOUND JESUS!****

Rumour has it he had been hiding in the bass bins at the Ministry all these years but actually, he was misfiled somewhere in between the techno and breakbeat section of my record collection. ***LINK IN BIO***

If heaven was music, it would be gospel, and if I was the religious type, that would be my church. In this mix, I’m bringing you the vocal, the soulful, can I get an Amen! 🙌

Digging out the likes of Ann Nesby transported me back to my jobbing DJ days in the late ’90s. The anthemic vibes of Michelle Weeks dominated the early 00s Carnivalism scene when we were starting to kick things off. Come to think of it, a big vocal has always turned up in our nights in one form or another and looking back on nights that inspired us, it’s no surprise really.

Kiss FM, Frankie Knuckles, and Body & Soul (the New York institution), had a huge influence in shaping a lot of our music around that time. After a heavy weekend of Breaks, D&B or Techno, Sunday afternoons with Ben Watt & Jay Hannan at Notting Hill Arts Club - LazyDog would bring things a bit more uplifting with even the occasional sing-along, and let’s not forget the organs!

So yeah, I suppose the gospel truth is house is my church, so come y’all and redeem y’selves PREACH!

In classical Carnivalism vibe, our London origins of broken beats and classic house, reminiscent of Bugz in the Attic and Co-Op, and embracing the soulful depth of Masters At Work styled house vibes.

Welcome to the celebration—where every beat is a step towards the sun, Summer is on its way.

Wow. Simply wow!

We just wanted to say a big, big THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for Carnivalism x SkateBoA. We hope you all had a cracking night.

Shoutout to all the volunteers who spent 4 hours transforming St. Margaret’s into a nightclub. Jeremy for the PA & lights. Tim and the team behind the bar keeping everyone VERY well-lubricated. Iford Cider Cru Wines for helping stock the bar.

Big cheers to Alice Hossent for kindly donating her £100 winnings from lucky squares back into the kitty. Superstar!

With a few volunteers off sick this week we haven’t quite got a final figure for you, but what we can say is over £1k went to the A New Skatepark for BOA fund on ticket sales alone. Expect a more detailed account when we get those numbers in.

Don’t forget to follow Matt & Dom on Mixcloud https://www.mixcloud.com/Carnivalism/

We do hope to dance again with you very soon.

WE LOVE YOU###

We're doing something!

Exciting news! In just three weeks time Carnivalism will be joining us here at the Cross Guns (3pm-Close)! Read below to find out more.

🌞A message from the Carnivalism Team:

Join us for a beautifully balearic, sunshine & sunset musical vibe with perhaps a touch of naughtiness into the evening, as we play tunes to all you beautiful people in one of the most stunning locations we ever have. You don’t want to miss this!

Carnivalism. It started in 2002 with our first Notting Hill Carnival after party in a basement bar in West London. Then we went dancing around various London venues and River Thames party boats, giving out free mix CDs, moving to podcasts, then Mix Cloud, and most recently live broadcasting lockdown Twitch discos. Times move fast.

So we’re gonna be celebrating 20 years (20… We know!) since the very first Carnivalism party. Now both emigrated to the Wild Wild South West, DJs Matt Richards & Dom Forbes bring their eclectic mix of musical tastes to the jawdroppingly beautiful location of the Cross Guns garden in Avoncliff, Wiltshire on Saturday 20th August 2022.

There’s food served all day and the pub’s garden tiki bar does cocktails and draught Pimm’s, so you can make an afternoon of it and join us for drinking, dancing and eating in the countryside. See you there.

WE LOVE YOU!
Matt & Dom

Recorded at a secret location, somewhere in England. Here’s just under 4 hours of mischief making music.

We had live Congos (sadly not mic’d up so you can’t hear). We also had a generator that liked cutting out (glad the laptop’s battery was up for it) so you might hear the odd dip. All the fun of playing out live I guess.

This was the last set of the night, after a balearic early evening, live performances, interspersed with a bit of funk, disco & hip-hop.

Remember to like, favourite, share or whatever the algorithm demands of you these days.

ENJOY!
