Are you planning. Wedding with kids as guests? Well why wouldn’t you! Children at your wedding can really make it special and especially if you or members of the bridal party have a family already it’s a no brainer to add in some entertainment to keep them busy, engaged and having fun too!
We have four wedding packages for you starting with basic kit hire of our garden games, including giant connect 4, jenga, tin can alley, snakes and ladders… you name it and we probably have it!
Next up is our wedding crèche where we would take care of the children completely they can be signed in and out of our care and entertained, given naps, read stories and played games, leaving the parents free to party!
Wedding entertainment is very similar and works in a side room or corner of the space where the wedding is set up so the children remain the responsibility of their parents and we entertain them! You can use our play village in any combination you want, to tie into a theme if you want or we can set up games and small world toys, brick building and crafts… the packages are completely bespoke!
Finally we offer a 1:1 nanny service which is usually chosen for a young baby so that Grandparents are also free to enjoy the day! We provide cuddles, feed, entertain and take the child for walks if needed. Ensure they are there for photos and playtime with the family but then also given that 1:1 needed to chill too!

Come and join us TOMORROW! We are setting up at Birch Copse Primary School in Tilehurst for their Christmas Fair where we will be setting up our Art Studio and providing our very own Father Christmas for their grotto! We can’t wait to visit and see lots of familiar faces.

Let’s talk about the construction site 🏗️ 🧱👷🏼♂️👷🏻♀️
One of the most popular play areas and yet when Pop Up Play Village was first introduced it wasn’t even part of our village! It was introduced a short while later but boy oh boy is it loved!
I think in the hundreds of parties I have now run over the last 7 years there have been maybe a handful that haven’t had the construction site! It’s definitely the one that gets hired out on its own the most and the one that gets the competition going between the dads! There is something about building a tower and knocking it down that the children love but I’ve also seen some amazingly creative builds going on in there too! We’ve had chairs, stairs, a patio, castles, houses, dens, pirate ships, cages for dinosaurs, names and symmetrical patterns! The play is open ended, it’s about being imaginative, creative and it’s also sometimes about building a great big tower with Daddy’s help that feels like it reaches into space… and then knocking it down! CRASH!! 🙌🏻😆

It’s so important to us that when children come into the village it is up to them how they play in it! They can choose where to play and how to play… if they want to take the supermarket food to the vets and feed it to the rabbits then that’s ok with me! If they want to line all the cakes up on a wall they have built in the construction site then go ahead! You will spot me watching and then when that play appears to be finished I will scoop the bits up and tidy them away… so they are ready to be played with again by someone else, because that’s just what we do and how we keep our village appealing for them and ready to spark their imagination.

Having sight of where your children are playing is important and this is never truer than when you have siblings! One is playing in the vets and the other in the construction site but it our village... this doesn't matter! When Pop Up Play Village was created it was designed this way by Becky so that she would be able to see both of her children wherever they chose to play. It also means that the village is completely flexible and the children can merge their play together so it really doesn't matter if the animals from the vets go on a visit to the supermarket or if the dinosaurs stomp into the building site so that our busy builders can build them a new cave! We love watching the children get creative with their play and that there are no boundaries to how they can achieve this and no restrictions on where they can take it. Being open plan is just the obvious solution... who needs boundaries on children's play either physical or metaphorical... not us!

If you have only recently found us you might be wondering if we cover your area? We have quite a wide area that we cover which is why we have two pages… one for Reading and one for Basingstoke but it’s still us that come out to play! Having two areas we cover is more that that though because there are so many smaller towns and villages that we love to visit!
In the Reading area we cover Caversham, Central Reading, Whitley, Southcote and then out to Pangbourne, Wallingford and Henley, Dunsden, Shiplake, Sonning, Shinfield, Spencer’s Wood, Swallowfield, Burghfield and then our Basingstoke area reaches up to Tadley and Aldermaston before stretching down to Whitchurch and Overton out to Fleet and Farnborough and all the places in between!
We love that we can come and Pop Up in venues big and small anywhere in this area and meet so many different people along the way. Within our area we are familiar with many local halls and know who to contact about hall hire. We are recommended suppliers for many venues big and small and we have contacts at several schools, nurseries, pre-schools and toddler groups who we regularly visit but if you know someone who doesn’t know about us yet and a setting or venue we haven’t visited then do let us and them know by tagging them in the comments and we would love to arrange to Pop Up for them! Our 2025 diary is open and filling fast so let’s get planning.

I love the way that children completely immerse themselves in their play and they are lost in a world of their imagination! When they are busy playing in the construction site it might look like they are just playing but to them they are being a builder, the wall is solid and it’s the foundations of a house! They are checking to make sure it’s level and learning how to use the tools of the trade to make their build better. I love seeing them taking on the roles of the adults they meet out and about in the real world and pretend! Take a closer look next time your little one is pretending and see what they are recreating! 🧱👷🏻♀️👷🏼♂️🔨🚧

We are excited to be taking one of our travelling role play areas out to play today!
Today we are setting up at Rainbow Nursery in Burghfield Common for our monthly play session and today’s session is all about Space and the Night Sky!
Our travelling play area is our Space Station which is set up in collaboration with Tender Leaf Toys and we can’t wait to test it out with all our villagers today!

Did you know that Pop Up Play Village was the first EVER mobile role play village? Set up by Becky in 2016 in Reading and designed as a way to entertain her two young children at the time. We were her first ever franchise team launching in 2018 in Basingstoke before taking over the Reading area too.
It was designed with siblings in mind and this is why our open plan village is at the centre of what we do because it’s important that you can see your children no matter where you are in the village!
Education is at the core of the village, it was designed that way… every item that was added to each play area has been carefully considered and thought out for its educational value because Becky was a teacher and Erica is a qualified teacher too which is why, as we continue to develop our village, the same choices are made!
We are passionate about the importance of learning through play and imaginative play at that which encourages children to develop empathy, take risks, practise life skills and socialise in an engaging and purposeful way.
When you book our village for a party or event you can guarantee that the children will be completely engaged from start to finish because their play is child led, it follows their interests and they can take it in any direction they choose.

Did you know that we run Outdoor Explorer sessions too? As well as our fabulous role play village we run sessions outdoors using the world around us to help us learn and play anywhere and everywhere! We love to explore nature and get creative in our mud kitchen, develop bush craft skills, take a closer look at bugs and plants to find out more about them. We often combine our Outdoor Explorer sessions with some role play and run sessions for nurseries and schools using a combination of both activities.

It’s been a while since I did a little post about us so I thought I would start by introducing our very own Frank. We are a husband and wife team and Frank is currently working more behind the scenes following major heart surgery 6 months ago but is well on the road to recovery. Frank tackles all the accounting and invoicing side of the business and is the one who does most of the emails for us. Frank loves a joke and in typical dad fashion his are awful but the kids love them! Frank is our very own Father Christmas at this time of year and is looking forward to lots of festive events.
His favourite role play area is the construction site and he enjoys building and knocking down towers

We have a few Christmas Fayres in our diary for this festive season and we are kicking things off next weekend with Four Lanes Schools in Chineham where we are setting up a role play North Pole for them to use to help their fundraising as well as setting up our Art Studio where we will have lots of craft products for the children to decorate making great handmade Christmas gifts. Make sure you have the date in your diary and come and say hello while supporting the PTA to fundraise. See you there!

We are back NEXT Sunday and every Sunday up until Christmas with their Family Sundays and we can’t wait to join you at The Wellington Arms, Stratfield Turgis. Each week we will be setting up a slightly different combination of role play and the exciting news is that on the 15th December we are also including craft for the children to make and take away as a Christmas special and furthermore on the 22nd December our session will also include a visit from Santa who will be there to chat to the children and pose for photos with our Christmas role play too. We can’t wait to celebrate in style with you. To book o to these sessions you need to contact The Wellington Arms directly and book a table in the Waterloo Suite. We are there between 12 and 4pm and our playtime is free alongside your roast!

We had an out of this world morning with the villagers at Rainbow Nursery! We shared the story of Whatever Next and then pretended to fly to the moon in our very own rocket with space helmets disguised as colanders before picnicking on the moon! We decorated paper plate planets, build rockets, read books about space and made shape space pictures in our school play area as well as using STEM to record what we could spot on some space I spy pictures. This is one of our FREE resources from our website so do grab a copy if you love the look of the activity! We certainly loved it today. The flour moon in our tuff tray was another popular activity as we made marks with our fingers to uncover the space pictures hiding in the moon dust. Let’s take a closer look at one of our role play areas this morning. Our vets is one of my favourite areas and we have two of them available for hire. Better than that is that for our corporate customers we can tweak our vets to have polar animals, safari animals or even dinosaurs in it instead of household pets!
Our vets role play area includes lots of cuddly animals, vets tool boxes, pet beds of assorted shapes and sizes a reception desk with a phone and X-rays and a waiting area. Just like any of our play areas it is flexible in its shape and size to fit your space and is great for encouraging empathy, imagination and communication.
You can add the vets to any package or it can be hired on its own!
It came out to play twice this weekend and is a popular choice.

Pop Up Play Village Reading
Welcome to our new page for Pop Up Play Village Reading. We are running play sessions and parties for children from 0-8 years old in and around the Reading area. Our role play village is designed by a qualified teacher to provide high quality play experiences for children that are both educational and fun! Our role play village features a cafe, supermarket, vets surgery, hospital, construction site, baby nursery, library, art studio and outdoor explorers areas. We pop up in village halls, community centres for our play sessions with our ‘real’ cafe providing hot and cold drinks and snacks, all competitively priced. As an Usbourne book seller you will also often see our Usbourne book stall pop up at sessions ready to be browsed.
For our parties we aim to take the hassle out of organising a party with invitations, entertainment, catering and party bags all provided, we even take the photos for you! We can pop up in a hall or even in your garden, if there is space! We can set up a party with our role play village but alternatively with bush craft activities as an outdoor themed party, there is lots of fun to be had!
We are available to be hired by schools, pre-schools and nurseries to run sessions for children and offer to run tailor made sessions or under the topic ‘when I grow up’. Our qualified early years teacher will take the children on a journey of discovery into what jobs adults do and what they involve in our play village.
We also run special Outdoor Explorer sessions focused on outdoor learning and a range of bush craft and nature exploration activities. Our staff can come to your setting and run these sessions on a regular basis. Alternatively we can come to your business and set up activities for your customers as part of our corporate hire packages.
Are you getting married? Looking for something to occupy the children? We are also available to hire as a wedding creche. Our staff are fully DBS checked and first aid trained. We can tailor make a package to suit you ranging from 1:1 care to a drop in creche, held in a side room at the venue. We can bring our selection of toys and games for both indoor or outdoor play and can adapt this to suit the ages of children at your reception.
