On the 9th of December 2023 the North West was battered by a storm name 'Elin' which reaked havoc across the region. Something else also happened on that day, Elise & Paul tied the knot at Abbey House Hotel in Barrow.

I have filmed weddings during some rough weather before, so nothing new here, but when trees are coming down in the Lake District and falling directly across the roads you are traveling on, well, you do wonder whether you are going to make it to the wedding, or back home after, thankfully I did 😅

I have a philosophy when it comes to filming weddings and it's capture the day as it happened and therefore if it rains or storms hit, I try to 'lean into it' and add some elements of that in the couples film, which I did in Elise & Paul's film.

Despite the awful weather, it did not dampen the spirits one little bit! Elise & Paul's had an AMAZING day and the pure joy experienced by them and all their friends and family surrounding them was clearly evident, everyone had an amazing day! Abbey House and their team were (as ever) amazing on the day. Also the suppliers Elise & Paul had chosen to travel in, were also amazing and everyone (given the weather) made it to Abbey House, despite some very challenging circumstances for some, so I'd like to give a mention to the the amazing team both at Abbey House, but also that traveled in to make Elise & Paul's day special:

What an Amazing Wedding at as delightful gem of a Wedding venue The Casterton Grange Estate.

It was an absolute pleasure to capture these two lovely people - Henrietta & Matthew on their wedding day, was a beautiful day after the morning showers cleared and and the whole vibe of this local wedding was lovely.

For my 2023 wedding season and beyond, I decided to give all my couples a 1 minute 'sneak peak'of their wedding within 5 days of their wedding.

To be honest, I was wondering if with such a busy 2023 wedding season if I could pull it off? I am glad to say that I have, and every couple this year has got there 'sneak peak within 5 days of their wedding, some the day after :)

A Wedding Film without a narrative is a Wedding Video.

I have been asked numerous times...

'What is the difference between a 'Wedding Film' and a 'Wedding Video'?

Isn't that just semantics?

No.

A Narrative is essentially a story. A Wedding Film should tell
a story, whether visually or through an audio narrative.

This lovely story of Laura & Kieran's is a blast from the past
from February 2019, one month before the Covid Lockdown and the last wedding I shot for a long while during that crazy period.

2022 was a very busy year and I was suprised when I looked back over it, how many of the wedding I filmed were in Scotland. I find myself being drawn back again and again to bonny Scotland.

Some screen shots from Aisling & Ali's trailer which I will be sharing soon.

The first shot was a 5.45am shot in the desert just outside Dubai, we got up for this shot around 5am the day after the wedding which we hadn't left till around 1am- the things we do to get the perfect shot!

The second shot was at Alseef, Dubai's historic creek, which is packed full of old charm and character not to mention some amazing spaces with amazing light!

The third and fourth shots was back in the desert this time at 6.45pm for Sunset, and man it was worth the effort and trek back into the desert, not to mention getting the car stuck in the sand 😏 oh and getting bit by huge killer ants, that was a nice souvenir to take back home!

After the last shots around 6.45-7.30pm we headed off to eat a traditionally Pakistani meal with Aisling & Ali and then on to the airport to fly home all on the same day.

Working on Aisling & Ali's Dubai wedding this week and what an amazing backdrop Dubai is for a wedding! Dubai while being super modern.. and man it is, you also can find the old traditional
Dubai without looking too hard.

From the traditional souk's, the old town of Al Seef, which is routed in the traditional culture and heritage of Dubai, to the desert dunes, I felt like I was in a movie set filming a Movie!

Traveled over for just 4 days with my good friend and photographer Mark from Scott & Lees photography, great working with Mark as together we could plan out some great shooting locations aswell as bounce of each other creatively.

Callie & Joey's love story was the stuff of dreams. Joey partly tells this story in this short film, it's a story that culminated in a fairy tale luxury wedding in a Scottish castle just outside edinburgh. Loved shooting this wedding

In the Winter of 2020 Danielle & Tom got in touch with me and said they were looking for a highlights film for their Wedding in July 2021 that wasn't your typical wedding film, her exact words were, "be creative...do what you want, just make sure it's not a typical wedding video." I was pleased with the challenge and anxious at the same time to be given a blank, but what would I do? No speeches, no ceremony vows just cool looking footage.

Danielle and Tom had some other requests.., they wanted to somehow incorporate their first date in Portugal into their film as it meant so much to them, oh and a sterophonics song that played on their first date that they had someone capture on an iphone.

Here below is their film, by the way they loved it. Phew 😅

Atmospheric Misty Winter Scottish

This story began when Louise & James got in touch back in late spring 2020 saying they had booked their Dream Wedding Venue in Southwest Scotland and were looking for a videographer that would capture their vision for their wedding in Scotland, they had found me, loved my films and we met up on zoom with Ryan Williams from RW Photography.

We all got on great; you know how sometimes you can meet a complete stranger and after a short while you feel like you know them? It was like that. The day of Louise & James' wedding arrived- December 18th 2021 arrived and so did we to Laggan in Scotland and it was a cold clear but misty day.

Louise & James and planned this wedding well and had a clear vision for their Photography & Film and hence didn't mind braving the cold on the beech in December to capture some amazing footage and images. They were so easy to work with, their baby Olly was the most chilled out happy little boy, he just soaked it all in.
