🍄👗 Celebrating UK Fungus Day in style... or should we say, in fungus fashion!
Earlier this year at our annual Science Festival, this garment featured in our exhibition Growing Home – where we explored innovative, sustainable alternatives to fast fashion like biomaterials! 💚♻️
Check out Symbio, a unique garment created by Edinburgh-based designer Emily Raemakers, inspired by the amazing world of mycelium, fungi, and mushrooms. 🌿 Emily used linocut printmaking with sustainable, water-based ink to mimic the intricate patterns of mycelium, bringing nature’s beauty to life in fashion.
Symbio features sustainable materials like:
🪵 Tencel-based wood pulp fibre
🍄 MuSkin – Mushroom leather
🌸 Hibiscus flower dye
🍎 Uppeal – Apple leather
🌲 Silk & Cork
Take a behind-the-scenes look at how this garment was made and see how biomaterials are shaping the future of fashion and engineering! Can you imagine yourself wearing fungus in the future? 🎥✨ https://bit.ly/4dx05Eg
