The canapés and drinks reception is one of the best parts of a wedding day - that fresh just married glow, the bubbles are flowing and your guests are buzzing with excitement. But how many canapé portions should you serve? We get asked this question a lot and the answer… it depends! Here are some key things to consider:

✨ Timing – If your ceremony falls over lunchtime, guests may arrive hungry. Either up the canapé count or give them a heads-up in your invite to have a hearty breakfast!

✨ Style & Flow – Want a relaxed feel? Consider swapping a sit down starter for extra canapés, letting guests mingle and soak up the setting.

✨ Duration & Expectations – Consider how long you plan within the timeline for this part of your day. For an 1 hour 30 minute reception 6 canapés per guest in our experience is the perfect sweet spot. If you envision longer time here you may wish canapés to last longer, then you may also choose to offer more too.

On what feels like day 100 of January, we’re looking back fondly to Rebecca and George’s beautiful summer wedding in June.

Nothing sets the tone for a celebration quite like a post ceremony drinks and canapé reception. These two just got married, and the atmosphere was buzzing – fueled by sunshine, bite-sized deliciousness in one hand, and refreshing English Garden cocktails in the other hosted in the stunning Walled Gardens of .

“We cannot recommend Kirsty and Steve enough for the impeccable food and service at our wedding in June. Several of our guests have commented it was the best wedding food they have ever had! The entire process was a complete pleasure – from Steve’s creation of a bespoke menu based on our favorite restaurants and memories, and the wonderful tasting at their house, to the most delicious canapés and wedding breakfast, with incredible service to match.

Kirsty went above and beyond to help me in the lead-up to the wedding, including liaising with other suppliers, offering advice, and assisting our coordinator with the marquee setup. On the wedding day, George and I felt so looked after – Kirsty regularly checked in, offering us drinks (and water!) and our own tray of canapés.

It makes such a difference to have suppliers you know you can trust when planning your wedding, and Fossil Food were most certainly that. If you’re a foodie looking for a lovely local supplier who will serve delicious food, do not hesitate to use Fossil Food!!”

The year that served Joy, Laughter and lots of Delicious Food ✨

Happy 2025 loves! Hope you had a wonderful festive break feasting and recharging with your faves. As our first post of the year it feels fitting to share this collection of special photos from our own wedding captured by the talented and all round awesome human . A reminder of everything we love about what we do—creating moments that feel magical, personal, and (of course) delicious.

Looking back on 2024, we feel so lucky to have been part of so many beautiful celebrations. Every dish we plated and every table we set was done with so much love—just like the love poured into my own wedding day. It’s wild to think how far this little dream has come as we enter season number 8, and we so excited for what’s next.

Wrapping up our last wedding of the season in true autumnal style at . This one was all about cosy elegance, travel inspired flavors, and a love story told through food served by our super star team front and back.

The couple’s travels took center stage, with canapés inspired by their adventures—each with its own story, with tales beautifully shared on blackboard sign posts. For the main event, we served up a sharing feast: think Dorset’s finest produce meets Japanese fusion, a nod to R&Js upcoming honeymoon.

And for the grand dining finale? Crowd pleaser sticky fig and date pudding reinvented, with miso butterscotch and a rum mascarpone. Lots of gratefully received wonderful feedback!

Huge shoutout to the talented who created the most beautiful installation and gorgeous cosy atmosphere with an array of colours, textures and soft lighting all while co-ordinating the day. Amazing!

From travel tales to fusion flavors, it was a celebration of love, culture, and the best that autumn has to offer. Congratulations Richard & Jenny! Thank you so much for being a dream… wishing you many more happy times to come! ✨🫶🏻

And a blink of an eye Summer Season number 7 is complete… and wow what a season! We’ve had the absolute joy of catering unforgettable weddings this year, from intimate celebrations to multi day festivities throughout Devon, Dorset and beyond.

This season brought us many bespoke menus celebrating each couples love story, thousands of pretty plates served with plenty a toast clinked, lots of tears shed at heartfelt speeches and too many admit kitchen dances with the crew. All fuelled by the love of what we do, supported by our incredible team and inspired by fellow suppliers.

To all the amazing couples we had the honor of serving: Thank you for trusting us to bring flavor to your special day. You guys are the best! To our hero team we appreciate each everyone of you and beyond proud to have you by our side from steaming linen pre party time to the very last plate packed away at the end of the late night and everything in between 🫶🏻

Indian Summer Sunshine for Jasmine & Dan’s Dreamy Wedding at ✨

Under blue skies and Aperol Spritz in hand, we kicked off celebrations with all the vibes! Post stunning Orangery ceremony Jasmine & Dan opted to replace the starter with plenty of canapés, allowing their guests to mingle longer in Came House’s gorgeous gardens. More time to enjoy the sunshine, bubbly, and bites? Yes please!

Straight from mains to dessert inspired by their Amalfi Coast engagement and Jasmine’s love of all things sweet, we created this little showstopper:

🍋 Italian Lemon Tart with Raspberry Salad, Fresh & Purée, Meringue, Limoncello Gel, Micro Mint, Red Amaranth, and Vanilla Chantilly. A plate almost too pretty to eat captured by .stationery.

As night fell, we kept the party going with individual buckets of recipe Fried Chicken Served alongside crispy fries and a selection of dipping sauces, this late night snack was a total crowd-pleaser. We’re loving the trend of serving evening food canapé-style so everyone gets in on the action — super interactive and fun!

Jasmine & Dan, it was an absolute dream to be part of your day. From the delicious food planning to the beautiful antique details lovingly collected along the way, we loved every second. Congratulations to the loveliest couple—we wish you a lifetime of love and laughter! 🫶🏻

Heaps of joy over the weekend at Sophie & Bens big day overlooking the gorgeous Sopley Lake & ✨

S&B opted to replace the starter course with canapés galore which is smash hit for those who love to prelong the drinks reception enjoying more time together & with guests. The rain clouds cleared and the sun shone bright just at the right time! Here we had on the menu served by the dream team:

➖Sesame Breaded Halloumi with Sweet Pepper Dip
➖Asian Mushroom Taco with Soy & Pickles
➖Minted Pea with Tempura Scallop in Shell
➖Moroccan Lamb Flatbread
➖Kadafi Pastry with Prawn and Chorizo
➖Salt Cod Ceviche Tacos with Cajun Mayo
➖Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Garlic Aioli (doubled up)

Into the main course it is no secret we love a Beef Welly always a firm feature getting to know couples and to make S&B totally unique to their story we served this deconstructed as a sharing board. Alongside plenty of fresh vibrants sides and bowls of BBQ chicken for variety. All very well received and such a pleasure to serve! Ending feasting with couples favourite desserts sticking with the sharing boards garnished with Macarons, Edible Flowers & Truffles.

Loved loved loved everything about planning alongside Sophie & Ben! Such an honour to create their visions come to life and one of the nicest couples out there. Congratulations loves 🫶🏻 thank you for having us!

The weekend brought us to the New Forest for Tommy and Ellen’s beautiful big day ✨

Kicking off post ceremony celebrations with plenty of canapés flowing alongside cocktails toasting by . Matching our canape displays to fit the theme of the forest green and surroundings with gold. How special to have on our team out the front this weekend creating the florals featured on couples plate here 🌺

We then served a 3 course feast featuring a celebration of local Forest themed produce with twists inspired by Brides Canadian heritage. Featuring Duck confit in Pine, Halibut served with Truffle Hollandaise and Caviar which guests chose from.

Ending the night with Canadian speciality poutine and Steve’s famous sausage rolls. Shout out to sourcing cheese curds for us notoriously hard to find here! Legends 🌟

Ellen and Tommy wanted a fun atmosphere and they had just that - lots of big smiles, laughter and joy all day into the night long! Huge congrats to E&T absolute dream boats from start to finish with such contagious energy 🤍

What a day! Lucy and Tim’s wedding was nothing short of magical celebrating at on Friday✨

Bespoke menus that evoke story telling is our favourite kind of dish and here we have done just that. Shout out to this dessert sharing board who celebrates L&T engagement story which went down a treat on the big day…

Tim proposed on Christmas Day including many of Lucy’s favourite cup of tea. Tim spent a lot of time designing the engagement ring which includes gorgeous orange and pinks weaved throughout. Naturally the dessert celebrates all of these thoughtful details shared including the colours of the ring a tea infused panna cottas.

Loved planning alongside these two! Lucy and I had so much fun being Brides together with our shared love for the girls at to the fun details in between. Thank you for having us by your side guys - huge congratulations 🫶🏻
