Today is the last day of summer, we are meant to say goodbye to our summer wardrobe, BBQs, summer holidays and warm weather.

I saw this butterfly over the weekend, it's coming to the end of its short life as the summer ends and blackberries are ripening. This picture sums up this seasonal crossroads we find ourselves in.

There are seasonal changes to our work habits as well, putting the office lights on for darker days, moving my meetings in doors, fewer outside events, planning for the 2022 wedding season and getting my office heater out of the cupboard.

What adjustments do the changing seasons bring to your work routine? I'd love to hear.

Happy Monday world! Hope you have more get up and go than me today. Still feeling a little hungover after a great wedding on Saturday.

So to kick start my day I've got a new Blog out which was formulated over the weekend when trying to hold conversations with lots of people I'd never met before! Turns out I'm a bit rusty on my conversation skills!

Let me know what lockdown has meant you haven't been able to practice!

Another day Devon County Show press office. Its the first day and the show is open to the public and its super exciting.

Everyone in the Show Team has been working very hard to make this a Covid safe event. With extra space on the showground for people to socially distance, hand sanitizer stations all over the place and even a pop up vaccination centre so you can .

We count ourselves very lucky here at Ginger & Jardine. The outbreak of a global pandemic 18 months ago changed everyone’s lives more than we thought possible, and it also made life very hard for small businesses. Events and shopping fairs were cancelled almost immediately, and people started livi...

Happy Monday folks, a bit late to the party with that sentiment but it was a busy day.

How was your weekend?

My weekend didn't go as planned, plans were rolled into action but the outcomes were not as I'd hoped. I took my lovely Connemara pony, Paddy to his first One Day Event with an amazing support crew and Rachel Bragg Photography who was also competing in in the same class.

All my hard work and preperation for the dressage paid off, we did the best test we'd ever done. I was thrilled but sadly we had 3 refusals in the show jumping which meant elimination.

To say I was devistated was an understatement, I only wanted to finish the competion, I wasn't worried about being placed or winning.

After cheering Rachel round the Cross Country course, I went home feeling very crest fallen. But its now the day after and I've been able to disect the day;

⭐You can work hard and prepare but that doesn't mean you are guarenteed the outcome you want
⭐This doesn't mean that the hardwork wasn't worth it
⭐You may have learnt something you didn't expect to
⭐Have a good support network, they can pick you up, help you see what you did achieve and help you to move on.

Hello handsome!

Had the pleasure of meeting this super sexy and very gentle chap, Romeo.

He is a 4 year old bull and I was assisting the talented Felix Northover Photography & Video with a spot of shooting.

Romeo is the main man at the Colleton Red Ruby Devon herd. They rear award winning Ruby Red Devon pedigree beef cows, they are 100% grass fed making for the best beef. Loved meeting them and hearing their story.

Great start to the day with Crewkerne Business Group Zoom.

Special guest today was the founder of Somerset Day and Shop Somerset, Nigel Muers-Raby. Who wowed us all with facts about Somerset, apparently its one of the oldest county's in the UK. Did you also know that the Somerset Flag has a dragon on it, not a Wyvern as some people think! 🐉

All VAs out there will know just how important their laptop/computer is. It is quite simply how we earn our money.

I take for granted that my trusty old laptop of 6 years will work the same each day as it always does. Despite its age it is still very quick and has not let me down.........until Monday.

After a very stressful day and a lot of help from the wonderful Paul Tech Wessex, not only did I learn something but he also recommended a suitable new laptop for me.

Tech Wessex are there to help small businesses grow and thrive by providing them with IT solutions that meet their needs. Being a business owner himself, Paul understands the pain and costs of IT troubles. If you need help with IT within your business I would recommend Tech Wessex

I've been working with lovely Mangles Family from North Down Orchard for about 6 months.

The have a stunning family farm and are now on the third generation producing Cider Apples. Knowing that farms need to diversify to survive and with a genuine want to share their beautiful family farm with everyone they have opened a bar serving delicious cider, grown and produced on the farm.

Next they are working on setting up the event side of the business, hiring out their farm for weddings, parties and events.

This really will be a very special venue, the intimate relationship and proximity to nature coupled with a rustic charm only found at a true working family farm will be so appealing to many.

The 'first draft' of the website is now live and we are open for bookings! I've loved doing this website and can't wait to see it develop more and to help them grown their business.

Please do take a look if you have time www.northdownorchard.com

It took me a while to understand this one. Its something my wonderful and very patient riding instructors says to me a lot.

When she does mention this to me again, it always gets me thinking about the meaning, to me its that you can't create something better than what you started with, if you're not prepared to break something in the process. When you come out the other side, it may have been messy getting there but what will you have ended up with?

I have loved helping North Down Farm get their perfect logo! This wonderful design has been hand drawn by the very talented Rebecca from Giddy Minnow Designs.

It is perfect for my client and Rebecca understood the brief and quite simply nailed it.

I've mentioned working on commissions a couple of times lately. I have a general rule of not sharing work in progress pics or details for commissions, because you never know if you're going to spoil the surprise for someone. However! Once a piece is finished, if the client is happy to share, then it's nice to be able to show you what I've been working on...
..and so! Here is a bit of recent commissioned artwork. This happy little pig under a somewhat stylised apple tree was done for North Down Farm, and you can even see it in action on their website at https://www.northdownorchard.com/

It was an interesting piece to do, trying to design a stylised apple tree with both fruit and blossoms, as well as learning to draw a pig! (In this case specifically an Oxford Sandy)

I'd also like to add a shout out to Alice (who I can't seem to tag) of AE Services who reached out to me for the commission in the first place!

Couldn't have put it better myself!

Couldn't have put it better myself!

What happens if you don't know who you are trying to attract? When you haven't really cut through the noise or you're creating even more noise by trying to attract everyone rather than a specific market.

You miss by a country mile.
Or sink faster than a broken biscuit in a brew.

Getting your photography right is the same - it's all about context. Imagine that you sell ball gowns, are you going to really attract your ideal customer by putting a stunning gown on a stunning girl who is holding a horse (that she's scared of) in a random setting in a scrap yard? Does the vibe fit the brand?

Sure it does if you're a really cutting edge brand based in a trendy city & your brand is about being unique, daring & non conformist. But not if your main audience is 16-21 year olds looking for a Prom dress at a price point.

Taking your images out of context might get them talking, it might gain a few sales, but the reality is it's really unlikely to convert into something sustainable.

Here with a recent shoot for local Somerset brand Touch of Tweed Clothing it was important to find a location that enabled us to blend the countryside with water in order to represent their brand story. A 'quiet' place where their products make sense, worn by people who fit into the setting too. It's far more engaging to their true audience than a shoot on a beautiful city pavement surrounded by Victorian townhouses & elaborate black railings.

Horses for courses 😜

Thanks to Ginger & Jardine for featuring me in their most recent newsletter!

Great to do a bit of modelling work for them again and of course work with the amazing Rachel Bragg Photography.

The summer stock shirt was super soft, as you'd expect from G&J, light weight and just divine for those hotter summer days of competing!
