Barbon Hillclimb Barbon Hillclimb is a challenging and very quick car speed hill climb course at Barbon in Cumbria. What's it all about?
(28)

It may be one of the shortest hillclimbs in the UK, but it is incredibly popular with drivers who enjoy the challenge and unique atmosphere that the venue provides. It's simply an opportunity for registered competitors to drive their car as quickly as possible up the winding estate road of Barbon Manor, the aim quite simply being to get from the bottom to the top in the shortest possible time.

The entry list is now closed and we have 92 entries for Saturday's Barbon Speed Hillclimb with a superb variety of cars taking part. We may lose one or two due to mechanical issues, but it will still be a great day on the hill.

Will anyone beat the hill record? That's unlikely, but many drivers will be attempting to break the record for their class.

Will you be there to see the action?

The first of two practices commence at around 09:15 and apart from a 45-minute break for lunch, the action should continue right through until 16:30 or even later.

Adult admission is just £10 at the gate (most cards accepted), or £8.50 in advance from the official Barbon ticket-line: www.ticketsource.co.uk/barbon-hill-climb

Well, that was an interesting day at the Barbon Hillclimb yesterday. Enormous thanks must go to our wonderful marshals who endured 'challenging' weather conditions all day.
Thanks too to our competitors who were confronted with less than perfect ground conditions in the very soggy paddock after heavy rain in the days leading up to the event.
Sadly, the excess of moisture created issues with the timekeeping system, resulting in delays that led to us declaring an end to the proceedings after just two practice and two competition runs.
We hope you are all now drying out and managing to clean the accumulated 'essence of Barbon' from your vehicles.

We'd love to welcome you all back for our 13th July event which, of course, will be on a fine, sunny, hot day! (It will, won't it?!!!)
Thank you so much for your understanding and forbearance. It was great to see so many of you back on the hill - spectators too!

The track repairs are finished, we just need a dry day next week to seal a few joins to protect the track from next winter's frost.

In addition to the resurfacing out on the course, we've reprofiled the entrance to the main paddock to reduce the risk of low cars grounding and have done some work beyond the finish line too.
And we even arranged for the extra rain this week to give the new surface a good wash! (believe that and you'll believe anything! :-)

We hope to see you all at Barbon on 15th June to sample the improvements. Go on, get your entry in. You know it makes sense!

It's a big spend, so we need every competitor we can find to enter this year's events. You can help us by spreading the word!

And spectators - we need you too for another great day on the hill.

As you will have seen from the post earlier this week we are looking to stabalise/upgrade the track. This will provide a stable surface for cars and bikes alike and also show our committment to motorsport at Barbon.
Now we would ask anyone thinking about visiting the venue to do so. Either with an entry which would help show your confidence in us or by adding the dates to your spectating plans in 2024.

29/04/2024

A wet and windy visit to Barbon today to check on the venue after a rather wet winter and spring confirmed our fears that the track needs several minor repairs plus the full-width resurfacing of the hairpin in time for our 2024 events. Thankfully, the paddock was perfectly useable, even after overnight rain.

We are not looking forward to receiving the quote as it could be a five-figure sum to get all the recommended work done. :-(
Then we need to determine how we can raise the necessary funds to do as much of the work as possible.

Has anyone got a generous fairy godmother with an interest in motorsport?
One way or another, we'll get it done. :-)

It's only a month to the final Aintree Sprint of 2023. We're short of entries once again, so we'd love you to enter. Skip across to https://www.liverpoolmotorclub.com/aintree-sprints/to-enter. If you've competed at Barbon, you'll find the regs and classes are the same, and your details are already in our entry system.
Due to the rising cost of staging events coupled with a shortage of competitors, we've lost money on every Aintree Sprint in the past 3 years, so we need lots more drivers to help us to try & break even. There'll be several regular Barbon drivers taking part and it's the same organising team that you are used to.
We currently have just 48 entries, so we desperately need every competitor we can find. There'll be plenty of competitive runs available for everyone, so you'll have a great time at this friendly event.... but only if you enter!

With great scenery, the Barbon Hillclimbs are events not to be missed, whether you are competing or spectating. See www.barbonhillclimb.co.uk for more information.
