4YaParty has been awarded ‘Plastic Free - Gold Status’ with and
🥳
Single use plastic from weddings and events are contributing to the plastic problem our planet has!
😔
Single use cutlery, confetti, balloons, disposable cups, plates and straws, water bottles and packaging are just some of the items that end up in the bin after a wedding or event! 😖
Sky Ocean Rescue calculated that an average U.K. wedding can accumulate up to 18kg of plastic waste! That’s equivalent to 4 black bags per wedding! That’s before we even think about the food waste! 🤯
In 2021, If the plastic waste from every UK wedding were added up, it would equate to over 4,910 tonnes of single-use plastic – equivalent in weight to 47 blue whales.🐋 😩
It’s taken the best part of a year to collect evidence and apply for the “Going for Gold” award with Plastic Free Communities. But I finally did it!
For full transparency, this doesn’t mean we are perfect, (I mean, nearly 😜) there is still one last single use plastic we are working on eliminating from the business: vinyl stickers!
We have already moved to PVC free vinyl with the hope that in the near future we can move away from vinyl completely! 🥳
This award proves my dedication to being single use plastic free in my business, but you don’t need an award to make a difference on your big day!
It’s as easy as choosing reusable over disposable but most of all before you buy anything, ask yourself, do I really need it?
This Tuesday, choose to be, single use plastic free!

Never forget that 9 in 10 people of the LGBTQ+ community have received anti-lgbtq+ verbal abuse in their lifetime* - that's 90%!
Did you know it wasn't until as recent as 2013 that 'homosexuality' was finally removed from medical books as a psychiatric disorder!* - 2013! 🤯
We will continue to protest until these awful statistics are no more and the Q***r community has true equality! The festivals and Events are fun but let's not be guilty of forgetting the true reason for Pride!

Please don't forget that you can support the Q***r community outside of June! You can still; buy from us, use our services, support our charities and use inclusive language outside of June! The sea of support and rainbow flags in June are great but let's not be guilty of only showing support for one month of the year!

The trans community needs our support more than ever. They are being targeted as if we are back in the 50s and it's heartbreaking.🥺 If you're an ally, you're an ally to us all! Trans rights are human rights - simple! Let's not be guilty of only providing a safe space for some!

My top tip for all this Pride Month... 📝..tell people your pronouns, add it to your name, add it to your email signature, wherever!
Not because it tells me if you're Q***r or not, but because it tells me you accept and respect that I am! 🥰

A busy morning today for several couples final planning meetings and a viewing with a super lovely couple all the way from East Grinstead excited to be booking their special day with us next May 🫶🏻 the first venue they found and fell in love with.

Chatting to one of our couples….discussing about why they chose Dode and they said “we just felt so welcome, like we were being invited in as part of an extended family”

That couldn’t be any more true. We are like one big family here, everyone working together with the help of our fantastic team of suppliers Flying Pig Kitchen Matt James photography Moody Blooms. Dode is so much more than just a ‘wedding venue’ we are place to come back to….a place to feel part of for years to come…for some people a sanctuary 🥰

It was so lovely working with and on this beautiful wedding for such a lovely couple last week!
Stunning centrepieces, staircase foliage and mantle display by the extremely talented 💐
All props, decor, backdrops, table styling and chair covers by myself and team!
Then ensuring that everything ran like clockwork!
Can’t wait to see the pro shots, (mostly because I can’t wait to see my gold dessert table filled with Chinese sweet treats 😍🤩)

Ok, I admit it… 🫣
I’m no tree hugger, you won’t find me chained to a tree at a protest. Although I will pose in front of a pretty tree for the gram 😜 I’m not green thumbed at all and will kill anything growing! 🌱 I’m a meat eater (Mmm Bacon 🥓🤤). I still fly on planes, because I’m sorry but I need a sunny holiday once in a while!☀️🕶️! I haven’t got round to changing all my cosmetic and toiletry products to plastic free yet because I’m finding it hard to let go of personal products I’ve used most of my life! 🥺 I buy way too much clothes 🛍️ (can’t resist a bargain!) and I hate getting on public transport (I’m an introvert not a snob 😂)! 🚆

Am I the perfect eco-warrior!?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! ❌
Do I make a conscious decision to make sustainable choices whenever I can?
Damn right I do! ✅
What I have done is;
Given up beef - one of the worst meats contributing to carbon emissions 🐄
Reduced plane journeys to once every 2 years✈️
Changed my cleaning products to plastic free🧼
Changed my private pension provider so I control what my money is invested in. 💰
Recycle in my household and my business. ♻️
Buy as much of my clothing from charity shops and give any clothing I no longer wear back to charity shops (circular economy!) 👗
Chose an electric vehicle and reduced my travel🚗
Amongst loads of other things!
Nobody is saying you must be a perfect eco warrior,
Just make a couple changes and watch the ripple effect start its journey. Before you know it, you’ll be considering Mother Nature before every decision you make, by default.
Today is the day, Happy Earth Day 🌱 🌍

🛑✋🏾Please STOP this!✋🏾🛑
I’m going to be blunt here: if you’re on a budget and you take an image from Pinterest and ask a supplier “How much would this cost!?” Just know, it’s expensive!! 🫣🤣
Doesn’t matter if it’s florals, cake, decor, attire, whatever it is, if you are nervously enquiring, then I think you already know whether you can afford it. 🫶🏾
(P.s, Wed Pros; This is why it’s so important to put prices on your website, nobody wants to nervously enquire!)
That doesn’t mean you can’t use Pinterest, it just means you need to change your mindset on what Pinterest is for!🧐
It’s a collection of inspirational images - keyword; inspirational!
It’s not a look book of what your wedding will look like (unless you have the funds to back it up!)
Remember!
A good supplier would never copy from a Pinterest image anyway. It’s not their work!
A good supplier would recreate the design in their own style, and only then, can it be tailored to your budget!

Now if you see an image on Pinterest that you absolutely fall in love with and money is no option, then I suggest you first of all, contact the person who the image belongs to and work with them directly. If that’s not an option then be very clear with your local supplier about what you want but don’t be surprised when the quote comes through! 👀☕️🐸

💜Another chance at LOVE💜
I often get couples say, “this is our second marriage, so we don’t want to go too over the top”
I don’t understand this concept 🤔
Doesn’t this relationship deserve the same, if not more love than the last relationship!? ❤️
Don’t be embarrassed to tell the world that you’ve finally found the one that sets your soul on fire! 🔥 😍
I was married and divorced by the time I was 30! Do you think I gave a rats a** what anybody thought about it lol 😜
Now I’m happy, remarried and I’m going to shout it from the roof tops because there is nothing wrong with falling in love with the wrong person and there is definitely nothing wrong with marrying again once you find the one 1️⃣
Love is freeing, it’s forgiving, it’s understanding!
So to my 2nd time, 3rd time and my ‘older’ couples, enjoy it, make beautiful memories and shout it from the rooftop because your love deserves it!

💰Wedding Budget Tips…
….That also double up as Sustainable wedding tips!
♻️

📢 First of all, being on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful, dreamy wedding! It just means you have to prioritise what’s important to you! You can’t have it all if you’re on a budget and expect it to still look good! (Did you hear me at the back!?😅)

1️⃣My first tip is reduce the Guestlist! 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👫👩‍👦‍👦
Let’s be honest, do you really know 200 people between you? I mean REALLY know them?
My rule of thumb is, if you wouldn’t invite them to your house for an intimate dinner then don’t invite them to your wedding! A reduced Guestlist not only reduces the cost but it is also an easy way to make your wedding more sustainable. Less travel, less food, less space needed, less money spent = smaller carbon footprint.

2️⃣My second tip is to reuse, reuse, reuse! 🎈🚫
Take the arch from the ceremony and put it behind the top table. Take the florals from the ceremony and decorate the cake table, take the lanterns from the aisle and use as centrepieces! The options to reuse not only saves you money but means using less and making your big day more sustainable! Yes, I know that means you spend less money with me, but remember, we are strictly planet over profit over here! Also ditch the single use! By ditching the single use, it means you’re literally not throwing money in the bin! Otherwise it’s buy, use once, bin!

3️⃣My third tip is to hire over buying! 🛍️🚫
Hiring is always going to cost less than buying new. The added value of hiring over buying means that even if it costs more to hire, it’s still worth it. For example - hire a stylist, you not only get your bespoke decor, you get a professional with an eye for detail, you get it delivered, styled and collected, you get a stress free service, you get to prioritise your time and you get the freedom to just be married rather than trying to get rid of it all after!
But it’s not just decor you can hire, you can hire the bouquets, the suits, accessories and even the dress! More importantly, hiring reduces demand which means less production and reduced carbon emissions!

Sorry I've been a bit quiet recently but busy is an understatement! 🙄
This is supposed to be the quiet months 😅
We kicked off December with the Bexley ECO Christmas Fair and it was such a lovely event, where I ran a Xmas Rag Wreath Workshop! More on that soon!
Next up we have the Bexley Small Business Xmas Social!
I'll be decorating the function room with the Christmas Party Package tonight so make sure you're there at The Abbey Arms Pub from 5.30pm!
December will also see the 3rd of my 4 part styled shoot series on Weddings through the ages!
Then it's an end of year party, a wedding and a Christmas party before I can finally relax!
Phewww, and breathe!
