What to ask when viewing a potential wedding venue (from a venue styling perspective!) ✨️⁠

- Every luxury wedding venue has its unique charm—be it grand ballrooms, stately homes, or chic modern spaces. The first question to ask is to yourself! - "does the venue match your vision, personal style & character? Can you & your fiancé see yourselves entertaining your guests & do you feel 'at home' in the space?"⁠

- Size matters - Blank canvas venues such as marquees or large minimalist spaces require more design focus, styling & decor, while venues already full of charm benefit from from considered, styling accents that harmonise with the venues aesthetics. "What budget have you set aside for designing & styling your venue & is it realistic based on the type of venue you're considering?"⁠

- Restrictions - Perhaps you've always envisioned your table styling filled with an abundance of candlelight or beautiful blooms cascading from the ceiling; be sure to ask a potential venue if there's any styling restrictions such as real candles, decor placement, movement of fixtures & furniture etc. ⁠

- What furniture/crockery/glassware/linens is included in the venue hire & is each item to your taste? Ask to see what's included at the venue viewing & if items aren't to your standard, ask if the venue is happy for you to hire in alternatives. ⁠

If however you love the idea & they will add an element of your personality to your day, edible favours are always well received & make sure they are small enough to fit into a clutch back/suite pocket to prevent them from being left behind. ⁠

Over the past 8 years, I’ve perfected the art of balancing Soirée Studio and my family so that when December unfolds, it feels joyful & not chaotic.⁠
⁠
December in the studio is a wonderful mix of creating design concepts for our summer couples, finalising wedding invitation designs & preparing to meet excited couples stepping into their wedding-planning journey in the New Year.⁠
Outside of the studio, my world is filled with school nativities, finding new ideas for that annoying little elf on the shelf, teaching my boys how to make sausage rolls & finding any excuse for a festive cocktail! ⁠

Finding balance throughout December takes time to plan in the Autumn months, but its definitely worth it to achieve a calm & relaxing festive season for me, my family & my wonderful couples ✨️⁠

Some wedding planners & coordinators aren't wedding designers too & thats completely ok! Wedding design requires a totally separate set of training/skills/knowledge & experience along with a naturally flair and passion for design. Their role is crucial in capturing the magic of the day, which is why I make it a priority to consult them on key details during the design process. Details such as the best placement of the top table for ideal lighting, ensuring no décor obstructs the view of the couple during dinner and allowing enough space for them to move freely between tables. ⁠

This collaboration not only makes my photographer friends job easier but ensures my couples get the absolute best out of their photography. Every detail is planned with the ultimate goal of capturing beautiful, timeless moments.⁠

Oscar is the son of creative couple Suzy & Ollie who own The Word Is Love and we’ve had the pleasure of creating some amazing weddings with them over the past few years.
