Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy We want our students to be able to compete with the best, to become the best. But with high expectations come increased levels of aspiration.

At Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA), we have high levels of expectation, and I offer no apologies for that. We provide high-quality teaching and learning and excellent resources that allow students to flourish and give them the confidence to achieve anything. We want them to overcome challenges, to give them the ambition to achieve anything they want. It's not just about character bui

lding but providing opportunities to those who wouldn't usually have access to them. It's about bridging the gaps and ensuring that the students receive the education they deserve. Here at OSSMA, we provide a safe environment, both physically and psychologically. We educate students about risks and how to remain safe. We expect our students to be able to walk proud amongst their peers and not to be afraid to offer help or ask for assistance if needed. We also provide a unique curriculum that goes beyond the academic challenge of the classroom. Based on our values of confidence, resilience, enthusiasm, empathy, challenge and kindness (CREECK), every moment in the academy is a learning opportunity, from the student's first interaction with staff at the gate to the moment they leave. We have an extensive personal development package both during and beyond the school day that we are committed to, offering students the chance to develop themselves personally and pursue their hobbies, interests, and talents. Being a student at OSSMA is about much more than exam results. It's about developing the skills, knowledge and characteristics needed to ensure that everyone can reach their potential. The students of this community are as talented and as capable as anyone. Our purpose is to ensure that they prove that. Kelly Hassall
Interim Principal

Every week at OSSMA students learn our WOW word! This is an ambitious word linked to either academy values, current affairs or thematic topics.

The WOW is shared every Monday during form time and this weeks WOW word is atonement - putting something right you may have done wrong.

Students will be debating "Is atonement achieved by saying sorry?" in family breakfast and lunch this week, focusing on discussion around making genuine and sincere apologies. This also links to our assembly this week about Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is the 25th September. 🙂🙂🙂

Our Story

Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA) opened in September 2010. We were one of the first Academies in Stoke-on-Trent to have a new building which opened in January 2013. Our Principal is Nick Brennan. The Academy was constructed on the site of the existing Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy. The site includes the co-location of a new special school - Kemball. Maximum pupil numbers are 1075, 11 to 16. Our new state of the art building's key features include: Faculty clusters based around social learning zones or "hubs" Central "street space" 400 Seat Arts Theatre Drama Studio/Conference Room Flexible, agile and adaptable environments Access to over 300 computers 4 badminton court sized sports hall with facilities for indoor cricket, netball, volleyball and basketball Fully equipped dance studio Fitness Suite 4 Outdoor Tennis Courts Upgraded grass pitches and Synthetic Turf Pitch to Football Association standard to promote links with Stoke City Football Academy. We have ambitious plans to share our facilities with our community. Any community group wishing to make use of our facilities, please contact our Centre Manager. Our students, teachers, support staff, parents and governors, form one big OSSMA family who work together to ensure that achievement and enrichment are the central aspects of our daily life together. We are committed to going the extra mile to ensure the best for our young people and achieving our vision that: “All OSSMA students will be exceptional learners, experiencing a world-class education”. We aim to provide the best experiences to our students, whether through academic work, competing in sport, participating in drama or by seeing the world. This helps them to shape their course as they move from school through to university and then on into their adult lives. Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy is a good school with outstanding Leadership & Management, as judged by Ofsted and we have been designated as a National Support School. As a National Support School, we are able to offer support for the development of senior and middle leadership and also teaching and learning. Should any school or academy wish to utilise this offer, please contact Mrs Emma Smith, PA to the Principal. We are proud of how far OSSMA has advanced since becoming an Ormiston academy in 2010 and we will continue to improve the opportunities for our young people that will equip them for modern life, and to have no ceiling on their aspirations.
