We are delighted to welcome “Stepping Stones (Unfurling Wings)” into the Colstoun Arts collection.

This work was realised in oil paint on board during .k ‘a residency this year at Colstoun.

Orla embraced everything about the residency initiating numerous works, Orla’s process requires numerous layers, and is incredibly organic meaning works can take months to finally be finished, resulting in weeks of beautiful chaos where a number of works remain unfinished either a moment or a marathon away from completion. Kane’s practice starts very firmly from a memory of something real and moves into feeling and abstraction often tethered to that initial memory through a single element.

We are delighted that Stepping Stones is fully realised having followed its entire journey and we have now welcomed the work into our collection as a gift from Orla.

This year we’ve been fortunate enough to have JUST ENOUGH rain and absolutely loads of heat resulting in massive amounts of growth in the orchard.

For the first time ever we have bucket loads of home grown outdoor peaches 🍑 from Scotland… who would have thought?

Just a matter of weeks and we will be in the grips of harvesting thousands of apples, plums and peaches the garden really is the gift that keeps on giving

Our little shady hut 🛖 has come in handy this summer with extreme heat (35 degrees yesterday), surrounding this we planted a wild seeds in May in this bed and they have really come into their own! Beautiful and full of life! We don’t often do a wildflower meadow instead focusing on truly wild meadows, however ever so often it’s nice to have sections like this pop up ☺️

First batch of Bramley Apples headed to our shop it’s the strongest sign we have of the change of seasons! Preserving season is well truly on the way

Family BBQ’s in summer at Colstoun include the whole crew that we have in the garden and any artists from that are about! It means they are normally a big rowdy affair with between 8-20 people and through the years we’ve had some really memorable ones including with two former WWOOFERs came back and got engaged at the dinner table they then went on to get married at Colstoun!

The garden has been absolutely desperate for a drink recently, and last night and this morning we’ve had hours of the perfect misty rain which deeply penetrates the ground making everything have just an extra greeny lushness today

The gardening team is HARD at work keeping it all under control! Weeding, pruning and harvesting make for long days but at the end of the evening it’s lovely to look back and see golden views like this

Our Story

Welcome to Colstoun House - Scotland’s oldest family home. In 2010 we opened our doors to the public for the first time in 900 years as an exclusive use events and wedding venue. Since then we’ve used the house and grounds to create a truly unique experience.

We follow a simple motto when it comes to any experience at colstoun “Our house, Your home”. We strive to make you feel relaxed and at home. This motto is at the core of every event at Colstoun and we feel it is why we won the 2018 Scottish Rural Award for Hospitality.
