Day 10 (maybe)… the ceremony.
What’s legal / what’s not / how can you do it!

I think I’ll do a talking video on this soon. The last one I did blew up a little so I know it’s info many of you really need!

Photo:

It goes a little something like this:
You book your venue, they then tell you to contact your local registrar to book your ceremony.
This is exactly what you want - a legal ceremony held at your venue and the registry office can do your perfect time (I love a 1pm). Done. Congratulations, you’re getting married!

But… what if the registrars can’t do the right time or you just don’t see that ceremony style as something you want? What do you do?!

Don’t panic - we have options!
1. You just go with whatever time they can do and you work your timeline around it.

2. You’re not happy to settle for that time.
You decide to go down the celebrant route on the day and simply sign the paperwork on another day.

3. You have both on the day. Have the full celebrant ceremony plus the registrars arrive to sign paperwork at the time they can do.

Remember:
Registrars = legally married
Celebrants = not legal and you will have to have a registrar ceremony at some point to be classed as legal.

There’s tons of more detail I could provide so we will cover that soon.

To note: this only covers Wales and England. Scotland have their own rules meaning a celebrant can marry you legally. We’ve been saying this years but still hoping the rest of the UK will go that way soon!

Also in Scotland you can married anywhere. It’s the person leading the ceremony that makes it legal (which to me makes sense!), however in Wales and England you must married at a licensed venue. Not all wedding venues are licensed but you can find that out easily.

Questions in the comments and I’ll answer in more detail over a few videos 💚

Day 9 (I’m giving up with this being linked to the days of Christmas for now…)

Another sexy subject - wedding insurance!

Do I recommend it? What does wedding insurance actually cover? How much does it cost?

I actually wrote a helpful little blog on the subject which you can read at LauraBeth.co.uk (or head to my story for a link)

But in short, yes I always recommend you are insured.

Is wedding insurance and absolute nightmare to make a claim on - yes.

But being informed on what you are buying and actually covered for it hugely important. And that you are not unnecessarily paying for things you don’t need.

Need to claim on your insurance. Be prepared to fight a little. They will try and turn you back to your suppliers. But if you feel you have a case which is and should be covered by them - dig those heels in!

As a guide a UK wedding of around 20-30k costs on average £100-150 to cover the total amount.

Public liability is advised and some venues do insist you have it.

As always, questions in the comments 💚

On the 8th day of Christmas (and to celebrate the launch of my own new website!!) - let’s talk wedding websites.

📸 .weddings

Bonus if you are reading this on the day it’s posted, head to my stories for the link to my full YouTube video on this subject 🫶

Im sure if your getting married in the next 4 - 8 months then this is something you are beginning to think about. But where do you even start?!?

My YouTube video breaks it all down. But here’s some pointers.

1. The quickest, easiest and most cost effective option to set up is a wedding website is through a dedicated wedding website platform. Personal favourites of mine are with joy and minted.

2. Pay the additional £10-£15 which will allow you to have a personal domain, password protect and a few additional features to streamline.

3. The basics you really need to be adding:
Your names
Locations
Times
FAQs: dress code, parking or transport help.
Gift or money registry
Parking info at venues

4. The nice additions:
Taxi numbers
Local accommodation
Photos and bridal party introductions
Location maps and detailed directions (add this to must add for rural hard to find venues!)
Any social media requests or restrictions.

5. For the RSVP sections
Make sure you’ve set a deadline and clearly communicated this to guests (ideally 5/6 weeks prior to the wedding)
Set up the system to ask all the RSVP questions. Importantly diet requirements.
Optional could be song requests and shuttle info.
Add menus if it’s a choice option.
Make sure it’s clear who’s invited (children/plus 1 etc)

The video goes into tons more detail go have a watch 💚

On the 7th day of Christmas - let’s look at evening entertainment.

For me - nothing will ever compare to a live band or musician. I do still love a good DJ… but let’s just focus on bands for now!

📸
💒
🎷

A band brings a natural rhythm to the evening.
A break whilst the scene is set to let your food go down and socialise
DJ music to warm the room up as the guest re enter.
And the dance floor will instantly fill when they get started.
Their break between sets also gives us a much needed lull for the evening meal as well.

If any one asks me where best to spend their budget, after food, for me it’s always on a great band!

How do you find a great band?!
Know your style and budget
Know any venue restrictions - timings / limiters / outside limits etc
Ask for recommendations from your venue/planner/other couples
Watch live showreels, research on instagram and see them live if possible.

Not sure where to start?

Agencies are a really great start, and can advise you on all aspects
They have bands that are wedding specific and usually know how to work with venues and the typical wedding crowd to provide something for everyone.
Also cover! If a singer is ill / someone cancels, agencies have other performers they can pull in at a moments notice.

Working directly with a band will save you money on agency fees, but as with everything. Do your research, check insurances and get a contract in place!

Happy band hunting!

On the 6th day of Christmas (and to celebrate New Year’s Eve) let’s talk drinks for your wedding day.

Whether your venue includes everything as a package, you’ll be able to provide some items on a corkage system or you’re DIYing the entire thing there’s always a number of decisions you’ll likely be faced with making.

But let’s not forget the non drinkers and hydrating on the day. Remember to provide water, at minimum on the dining tables but ideal if you can have a water station too. And for non drinkers providing an (exciting) option along side the drinks reception, wedding meal and toasts is really important

Day 5 - Confetti!

In my attempt to keep the content interesting, let’s talk about the small details not just the main suppliers.

I have a WhatsApp group with all my clients and confetti is often a highly discussed topic. Mainly because it’s hard to find good advice on. So here’s my take.

DO THE CONFETTI !

I think you’ll see from these shots that they just make such a great photo every time.

But how/when do we get the shot?

I always build this in straight after the ceremony as part of our ‘exit and where do we go plan’. I personally don’t like to do it on the actual aisle. It’s hard for everyone to reach you and feels a little awkward to stop your departure from the ceremony to wait for everyone to get in place.

So have your first kiss, exit and depart the ceremony space.
Go somewhere together. Another space another room. Have someone bring you a drink and have just a few moments for the 2 of you to breath, talk and celebrate you just got married!!

During this time all your guests can be brought into place, handed confetti and you can magically reappear walk the line and enjoy the mass of congratulations that follow!

What type?
If your venue allows paper biodegradable confetti is always the best (adding in one of 2 cannons is also advisable!)

And lots of it! A large handful per guest at minimum!

Only allowed petals? still go for it. Allow even more confetti per person as it drops faster and try to avoid confetti with the really fine dust in it - you’ll be picking it out of your hair all day!!

Wet weather?
Be open to change the plan and do it at another time if the weather turns - entrance into the wedding meal? Cocktails hour.
Ask your venue if they have any restrictions with throwing indoors? Who needs to clean this up?
Or if it have to be undercover in a smaller space swap a tunnel for circle around

On the 4th day of Christmas - it’s all about the little touches of stationery and paper goods.

Showcasing one of the most personal designs I’ve ever worked with for Imogen & Bens wedding by

Stationery adds that final element to your design, filling the space, adding practical information and tying together the over all look throughout your venue and day. From the order of serve to entrance sign, cocktail menus, table plans and place settings.

Many choose to ‘DIY’ this element which if budget is tight can be one area that I would suggest you might want to look at yourselves. BUT do not underestimate the time and resources this can take. If you don’t already have the equipment or you’re not particularly into crafting this can quickly end up being a huge cost and headache.

So what do you need to look for:

1. Love their style. As with all suppliers stationers also have their own style. Minimal, watercolour, bold and colourful.

2. Think about everything you’ll need. Imagine walking through all areas of your day. Where would additional signage be helpful? What will our place setting look like? How will you display where your guests will seat?

3. House or bespoke? Many stationery will have their off the shelf house collections which you can personalise for less of a cost than designing from scratch.

4. If you’re going bespoke you’ll want an idea on your colours and theme. Use Pinterest boards (as I’ve said before) as a great way of visualising what you mean. Words can often be hard to convey a look. And don’t be afraid to do small revisions to get exactly what you want.

5. Know what you’re getting. Are you just purchasing digital and the print costs are extra or is this included? Will you be writing on the place names yourself or is your stationer doing this for you?

6. Lead time. When do you have to have all the final details sent to print. Make sure you set your RSVP date at least 2 weeks ahead of this to give yourself time to chase up anyone yet to respond and collect all the info in the format required.

On the 2nd day of Christmas - let’s talk floral.

For many of us this is a major feature in the over all look of the day, but also an area many of us have very limited knowledge in. And in my experience clients find a daunting task.

Here’s my top tips when searching for the perfect florist to partner with for your wedding day.

1. Find someone who you love the style of. Whether that’s structure, natural, minimalistic or dramatic.

2. Know your budget. Some florists will have a minimum spend. You want to find this out either via their website, brochure or via enquiry. If there is no minimum / your budget allows for this you’ll want to be honest with your overall budget limit and the kind of floral items / displays you’re imagining. The florist can then advise you on where your money would best be spent / be possible with them. Florists come in all sorts of price ranges based on experience, quality, over heads and style.

3. Be trusting. You chose a florist you loved. You’ve seen how amazing their work is. Allow them creativity, you don’t need to micro manage and plan out every single detail. Florists preform best when allowed creative freedom.

4. Here’s a few things it’s useful to know:
The date and venue (season and space are critical!)
Your colours (or at least a guide)
Potential flowers you love or might be special to include and flowers you want to avoid.
The items you might want / how many

And Pinterest! This is such a useful tool for visualising what’s in your mind. Many times I’ve worked with a client and what they say / what they mean can sometimes mis match - photos are such a useful tool.

So there you have it. Break it down, no your limit price wise and trust in the florist you choose.

Want to easy (ish 🥴) wedding task to feel like you’re doing something productive?! - write a photo shot list.

📸

And when I say this, I do not mean dictate every single photo the photographer needs to take. You booked your photographer for their style and talent. Trust they will capture the details and special moments without you needing to tell them.

But what’s a photo shot list?!

The really really important ones you don’t want to miss.

Any particular getting ready photos
Any special items you want captured that might not be obvious
Any particular family member you don’t want missed

And most importantly the group photos.
Do you want a confetti shot?
A group photo with everyone from your day?

Then a list of the groups. My advice - keep it to 10 max. Less if you can manage.

Consider who you want in the formal photos and who can be captured in more informal shots through out the day.

Have someone from either side of your families who knows everyone to get them ready in place

And one I always mention. If parents are separated make sure you include separate photos with each of them and potentially their partners. It’s nice to include everyone!

How many photos are on your list?!

This is how we cut the cake. photo

But what’s in store for team Laura Beth now all my couples have said I Do?

Feet up? Relax and have 3 months off?!

Well I plan on a little of that! But it for sure doesn’t mean we are quiet.

The team still have 11 events they are part of in December, from weddings to Christmas dinners and private dining nights.

Sam & I will be taking over the Tall Johns bar for the day to allow them to have with own Christmas party (you best believe we are bringing the best cocktail skills)

I’m also running 2 Christmas party night for London based company West End Events in Cardiff for the next 2 Fridays.

And on top of that we have new clients coming on board for 25/26. All my couples to start planning ahead for next year, setting up their portals and making sure we are all on track for next year. I love this time of year to really move to giving the 2025 clients all the attention!

I’ve got a few projects I’m working on, some products to launch and a little brand refresh too ✨

(Also the dreaded tax return to organise and if you were here last year you’ll know how much I love that - mission to sort this part of my business next year with professional help year round!)

So we might not be AT weddings physically - but we are for sure not at risk of getting bored 😉

In need of ceremony space inspiration?!

Here’s a few favs from this year - although I have so so many more I could add.

From oversized floral arches, to the use of colour to grand climbing displays trailing up walls. I actually refuse to pick a favourite!

And it’s not just about the florals. Structures and draping are also great ways to frame a space.

What would you choose?!

1. The wall of flowers -

2. The romantic candle lit signing table -

3. The oversized broken archway

4. Dried floral aisle .floral

5. Colour aisle walk

6. Draped arch way

7. Climbing flower meadow .photo

8. Simple elegant pillars

9. All about the ribbons

Why do I do what I do?

I love the people.
The couples I build connections with.
The suppliers I work endlessly hours with and have become some of my closest friends.
That moment the decor all comes together.
But most of all I love the parties.

My background - a dancer and musician.

It’s no surprise seeing a packed dance floor after potentially a 16 hour day just makes me smile.

I’ll be your girl dancing through the crowd handing out the glow sticks wearing the flashing glasses.

Lifting the energy with trays of shots to get everyone back up for the 2nd set.

That’s what I truly love.
A big beautiful party
