After an initial period of becoming well entrenched in the global doom and experimental metal consciousness, Five The Hierophant open a new cycle, with the release of their new album "Apeiron", followed by an European trek with Thantixafath, including crushing sets at Soulcrusher Festival and Desertfest Belgium. This 3rd full-length opus sees the London-based quartet pushing its instrumental doom trances to new cinematic and introspective eights, pushing deeper the use of atypical instruments such as: horns, trumpets, gongs, bells, violins, skull shakers, ritual drums and other tools.

Get tickets on DICE to see their new set at Chaos Theory Festival Day 2 - 15 Years Of Chaos at The Underworld - London.

"Up there with The Physics House Band as a group that takes jazz tenets and marries them so well to psychedelic, dark, and progressive moods to create entire worlds" - Everything Is Noise

"Truly seductive and hypnotic" - Metal Storm

Bleak, dark and devastating sounds that combines heavy riffs, drone-like atmospheres and an intensity you only find in Black Metal. Using instruments like the djembe, rag-dung, violin, bowed guitars and saxophone, alongside a normal band set-up, Five The Hierophant delight their listeners with unique and varied soundscapes. The band started their live activity with an epic set at Desertfest London in 2018, quickly followed by a European tour with Thaw and Arrm and several festival appearances such as Rock In Bourlon (Fr), Tales Of Drone (Ch), Red Smoke Festival (PL) and many more.

After releasing "Through Aureate Void" in 2021, the band played at Roadburn 2022, with a set that included Atonia, a collaborative commissioned piece with Wyatt E. and Tomer Damksy, released as a live album in 2023, Five The Hierophant have established themselves as a stellar live act of psychedelism.

With a complex and diverse sound that appeals as much to fans of catchy sing-along hits as it does to fans of jazz and math rock, it's no wonder that the members of Sans Froid have come together after honing their skills in a range of brilliant bands (including Pave, Chiyoda Ku and ANTA). After seeing their captivating performance in London last June, and with the release of their debut album last October, we welcome them back with open arms. Catch them next Chaos Theory Festival Day 1 - 15 Years Of Chaos at Signature Brew Blackhorse Road.

In a bid to move away from the complexities of contemporary life, Sans Froid have conjured up sassy and relatable earworms that urge listeners to stop and breathe. Sounding like a cosmic lullaby, Bristol-based Sans Froid formed and evolved through desperate times to create a tale of yearning hope for the future.

Sans Froid started in 2019 with Aisling (keys, vocals) and Toby (drums) writing songs as a two-piece in a damp Leeds basement, then soon grew with the addition of Charlie (guitar) and Ben (bass). After standout performances at ArcTanGent, Strangeforms (Bad Owl Presents) and Handmade festivals, along with countless shows around the UK, "Hello, Boil Brain" was born. The album was recorded at Circadian Studios with Ben Green and mastered by Stephen Kerrison at Weird Jungle.

"Dark and uncomfortable…somewhere between post-rock and alt-rock” - Backseat Mafia

“Art-prog quartet stepping boldly into the future” - Noizze

“Bold, beautiful and completely refreshing” - Circuit Sweet

“Ominous and dark” - At The Barrier

Having heard so many fans over the years talk about how they didn't "get" ṠḶẏ & Ṯḧḕ ḟḀṁḭḶẏ ḊṙṏṆḕ until they saw them at a gig or festival, the band epitomises what we love about the live music experience. They draw you into their dronescapes and noise jams, ending up with even the initially most confused listeners joining in with instruments that have been handed out to the crowd. As their live sets erode divisions between "performers" and "audience", they create, even if just for a moment, a community revelling together in the joy and carthartic release of noise, music and rhythm.

Get tickets to support and join them at Chaos Theory Festival Day 1 - 15 Years Of Chaos. You can listen, watch and learn lots more about Sly on the Blog page of our website.

Having shared stages (or floors) with the likes of Lightning Bolt, Wolf Eyes, Dalek & Swans, the neo-jazz wreckin’ crew continue to scorch their own path through the no audience underground at venues and festivals in the UK and beyond, recently teaming up with UK charitable label HUMAN WORTH on the release of their mesmerising new record Moon Is Doom Backwards.

With a unique blend of raw and heavy sounds, the awesome range and presence of vocalist Abi Vasquez, lyrics tinged with anti-fascist values and tales of post-Thatcher poverty, and having been named as one of Kerrang! Magazine's bands of ArcTangent Festival in 2024, Underdark are a worthy penultimate band for an immense line-up on Chaos Theory Festival Day 2 - 15 Years Of Chaos at The Underworld - London.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences, Underdark has forged a unique sonic identity that blends elements of black metal, post-rock, and post-hardcore. Their music is characterised by ethereal melodies, atmospheric textures, and intense, emotive vocals.

Underdark's music is a sonic journey that transports listeners through a range of emotions, from hauntingly beautiful passages to moments of intense catharsis. Their ability to seamlessly combine the ferocity of black metal with the expansiveness of post-rock sets them apart in the modern music landscape.

"Taking black metal to strange new places" - Kerrang!

"As emotionally stirring as it is harrowing and visceral" - Distorted Sound Magazine

"A deeply affecting experience" - Noizze

The last time we saw prolific vocal and movement artist Kate Smith perform at a Chaos Theory event was as part of her experimental vocal project That_Ensemble in 2019. You can find all of these Artist Profiles with music, videos and links on the Blog page of our website.

Kate Smith's life is a maelstrom of creativity, always resulting in heartwarmingly beautiful vocal works. Each time you see her will be a unique experience. Whether solo, with ensemble, a ca****la or utilising loops and electronics, her early set on Chaos Theory Festival Day 1 - 15 Years Of Chaos will set the tone for a day of inventive brilliance and the healing power of music. Excited to have her join us at Signature Brew Blackhorse Road in March.

Kate is a vocal acrobat, composer, and facilitator known for her seamless blend of musical precision, free improvisation and physical exploration. As the creator of The Embodied Voice ©, a research, performance and teaching practice, and the founder of Curiosa, a company that runs creative workshops and international retreats, Kate’s many-faceted creative endeavours address themes of presence, the body-mind relationship, and human rewilding, through the expressive shaping of voice, movement and improvisation.

Since we last hosted psychedelic doom outfit Morag Tong in 2019, they've taken huge strides as artists, playing Desertfest London twice, supporting global legends of heavy music, and releasing their awesome second album in 2023. They will be a fantastic start to Chaos Theory Festival Day 2 - 15 Years Of Chaos at The Underworld - London.

Entwining colossal drones and sledgehammer riffs with a rich, melodic ambience, UK heavy music scene staples Morag Tong wield a sound that is wholly their own. Drawing on a wealth of influence from psych, sludge, doom and prog, their highly anticipated second album Grieve, released in 2023 on Majestic Mountain Records, paints a series of vast and striking scenes that reflect lyrical threads of existentialist wonder, infatuation with the natural world, and an emphatic love for life.

Known for their passionate, high-energy live performances, Morag Tong cut their teeth playing alongside some of the genre's finest, featuring on bills across the UK and Europe with the likes of Ufomammut, Monolord, Conan, Black Pyramid and Green Lung and Naxatras among others. In 2025, they continue to bring their brand of high-volume heaviness to life on stage.

"Morag Tong’s vivacious and monumental performance was as if plucked out from the depths of the Red Mountain itself" - Metal Rules

"This band are a must-see...a truly impactful experience" - The Razor's Edge

"It was loud and heavy and it was excellent” - Moshville Times

Psychedelic fuzz rock cynics Thee Alcoholics are quite a phenomenon to experience live, causing you to sink into a trance as your ride their energetic grooves. If you aren't familiar with them, make sure you catch them on Chaos Theory Festival Day 1 - 15 Years Of Chaos on Saturday 1st March 2025 at Signature Brew Blackhorse Road.

Shapeshifting South London noise rock outfit Thee Alcoholics [Rocket Recordings, Wrong Speed Records, HUMAN WORTH] have been not-so-quietly releasing a handful of sell-out tape EPs, 7" singles and albums for a few years now. Songs that rail against injustice, intolerance and institutionalised Great British apathy- neatly wrapped around screeching, trash guitar riffs and blast-beat-driven bass synth. Mixing the gnarly, outsider big m**f energy of early Tad and Mudhoney with the industrial crush repetition of Godflesh, ugly vocals are buried somewhere between the Brainbombs and Girls Against Boys. A relentless brick-to-your face wake-up call of cynical musings.

After a live recording documenting their journey so far came in 2023 (30 minutes of agro drunk rock n roll, in the red sizzle of broken equipment, the band barely holding it together in their chaotic element), Rocket Recordings issued a full length album "Feedback" in 2024, seeing the group flex a more widescreen take on their instructional noise punk dirge. Go check them out before they either take off or implode!

"Disorienting, placing the listener in a vomit-coloured version of reality that seems never-ending yet strangely impermanent" - The Quietus

"An essential trip away from the dross of everyday life" - The Sleeping Shaman

"Fabulously fuzzy and fiendishly loud" - Buzz Magazine Wales

Hardcore legends Svalbarduk always cut through bu****it and tired traditions, which is what we love at Chaos Theory events, and what we think is keeping the heavy music scene alive. We're extremely excited that the Bristol 4-piece will join us to headline Chaos Theory Festival Day 2 - 15 Years Of Chaos at The Underworld - London.

You can learn more about them on the Blog section of our website and get tickets on DICE.

You'd be forgiven for struggling to summarise the sound of Svalbard in a few words. Since forming in 2011, the band have had their hands in black metal, post-rock, d-beat, shoegaze, hardcore, and post-metal. Whilst their music stubbornly refuses to fit neatly into one genre, one word remains a fitting adjective for the British quartet: unique.

With a fourth album now under their belts, Svalbard are going from strength to strength - not just as one of the brightest sparks in metal and contemporaries of a burgeoning modern British metal scene, but as advocates for mental health.

"The band play with such a ferocious nature that it’s hard not to feel captivated by it." - Kerrang!

"Melts even the hardest of hearts through melody and lyrics alike" - Distorted Sound Magazine

"Breakneck pace, lush melodies and savage vocals" - BRING THE NOISE

Who's excited about seeing CLT DRP's latest anarchic feminist pop/noise/punk/electronic (basically indescribable) sounds to Chaos Theory Festival Day 1 - 15 Years Of Chaos on Saturday 1st March at Signature Brew Blackhorse Road?

Pronounced 'C**T DRIP' for those confused or too shy to ask, CLT DRP have been turning heads. The genre-bending trio's non-apologetic and yet playful approach has seen them garner praise from Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Visions, New Noise, TheLineOfBestFit, Gigwise and radio plays by BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 and KEXP. Their music gets you moving, invites you in with power, and makes you question your environment and yourself.

"If you’ve think you’ve heard everything punk is capable of, the Brighton trio have enough electro-infused ammunition to make you change your mind." - Kerrang!

"Think The Prodigy meets The Slits." - Louderthanwar

"A face-melting mix that wouldn’t sound out of place at either a rock concert or a rave." - Distorted Sound Magazine

Announcement for Day 2 of 15 Years Of Chaos! Sadly Lowen can no longer make it due to a clashing tour, but we're ecstatic that belting post-metal 6-piece Hundred Year Old Man will join us to bring an extra punch to the day.

After their awesome performance at their recently sold out gig, we're honoured that they're making the trip down from Leeds just for us.

See you The Underworld Camden in March!

Chaos Babble

We’re a London-based promotion collective that has been producing events and promoting artists of all kinds of emerging and underground genres since 2010. We're trying to get great new music out there with DIY gigs and organised promotion.

Originally founded by Kunal Singhal, moving to London on 29th January 2010 and holding the first event on 3rd February, Chaos Theory has grown into a team effort, fuelled by an increasing amount of freelancers, creatives, industry professionals and concert addicts, all of whom have insisted on helping support the ideal of giving independent musicians as professional an experience as possible, while inviting complete concert newbies and seasoned gig junkies to discover their next favourite artists without any judgement. See who’s who in the list below.

The community of a dedicated core of supportive regulars, the wider circle of well-wishers and scene-sters, and the people who support us online and from afar, has been vital in building up a promotion that actually serves to bring artists and curious fans together. We are everything together, so thanks to every one of you who has attended our events and helped to spread the word. We’re all about passion and don’t care for snobbery, so even if you’ve never seen a band play live ever in your life, come and join us and we’ll make you feel welcome. If you come alone and want to hang out alone in the shadows, we’ll respect that, and we’re always here for you if you want to chat. You can also find friends to go with on the Chaos Theory gig lovers group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/212680832591501) if you’re keen to try but don’t want to go alone.

We want to remove any reason for you not to come, if you want to check out a certain event, so have been taking a lot of feedback about how to make accessibility information available, letting people know what to expect at each venue. This has been entirely informed by attendees, so if you think there’s something else we could do to keep our events as open, safe and inclusive as possible, please drop us a message. If you don’t come to an event because you aren’t free or definitely won’t like the music, fair enough. If you might want to go but don’t know if your needs will be looked after at the venue, then we’ve failed. We just want people to discover the amazing music that’s being made nowadays, without anything getting in the way.
