‘It is such a pleasure to witness a large group of gifted musicians who obviously enjoy their performance and we were treated to the quality of playing we expected from one of the greatest brass bands in the world. The core still includes Yorkshire folk but some of the soloists included a Lancastrian and even someone from far off Cheshire. There was even a Scot. Any Geordies would have been more than pleased at the clever and sensitive arrangements of 'Water of Tyne' and 'Dance to your Daddy'. Given it was the Platinum Jubilee, whether tradionalist or jaded republican you could hardly fail to be moved by their rendering of 'Jerusalem' and Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance', two tunes surely that are unsurpassed when being delivered by quality brass. It was the leader/conductor only second outing with the band though he stressed he was a Yorkshireman and qualifies by having "deep pockets and short arms" as he said. Though I noted he had left the band on the stage for their signature piece - "The Floral Dance". So probably being able to play it in their sleep, they finished the evening with gusto and left us wanting more.’

Acclaimed as one of the finest jazz musicians to emerge this side of the Atlantic, Julian Joseph has made ground-breaking advances for jazz in the UK. He was the first Black British jazz musician to host a series at London’s Wigmore Hall, and the first to headline a late-night concert at the BBC Proms with his All Star Big Band. We welcome Julian and his trio in this ‘in-the-round’ setting, with audience encircling the performers 🎹🎼
