Walk Down the Aisle, Bog Cotton Style with Trevor (photographer) & Paula (celebrant)!
14/02/2025
The first Bog Cotton elopement of 2025 was absolute winter-wedding goals!
Last week we had the pleasure of photographing and celebranting Shane and Lisa’s adventure elopement at the ever-beautiful Glencoe Lochan. And if this amazing pair, the glorious weather, and the ultra-peaceful lochside setting weren’t enough, they brought their best friend Dude along for the ride too! Have we ever mentioned that we ADORE dogs?
Some people would shy away from an outdoor ceremony in the winter but Lisa and Shane embraced the fresh air, mostly for one simple reason: they needed photos with the snowcapped mountains behind them. And let us tell you—it was 100% worth it. ❄️🏔️
After warming up with a wee dram from the traditional quaich of course, Trevor took the newly married couple, and Dude of course, up the magnificent valley for a few more shots with even bigger hills behind us. The weather inevitably turned, the wind picked up, but they powered through—stopping only when they remembered they owed Dude the chicken he had accepted as a bribe for wearing his tuxedo and bow tie.
Speaking of bow ties, there were, in fact, two bow ties for Dude and it is quite possible that Shane had forgotten his own tie and had to also wear a little pink doggy-version himself. Shane didn't even get any chicken as a reward.
If the rest of our 2025 elopements are this much fun, we’ll be absolutely over the moon!
Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

After photographing yesterday's elopement in Glencoe I was chased back up the valley by a gorgeous sunset over Loch Achtriochtan. I was a bit chilly and tired but I decided to turn back and at least grab a quick shot of the warm light streaming through the mountains as I knew I'd regret it otherwise.

Although this isn’t one of our photographs, we couldn’t not share this wintry snap of our favourite ceremony spot! How gorgeous does Castle Tioram look at the moment?!
Thank you to Bob Archbold for snapping it ❤️

WARM, WITH A HINT OF STORM ☀️⚡️
While Trevor is off basking in the Indian sun, Paula’s morning workout has involved prising her frozen Berlingo door open with a crowbar! But don’t worry, she’s found solace in a reminder of why Scottish summers reign supreme!
The freshest of air, the otherworldly light, the pristine beaches and the unique thrill of switching from suncream to waterproofs in record time. This photo of Becky and David on Camusdarach Beach captures it all perfectly! BRING ON SCOTTISH SUMMERTIME 💥

🫶 We Have the Nicest Couples 🫶
We’re over the moon to have received such a lovely review from Adam and Sinead, who trusted Bog Cotton to capture their beautiful elopement in Glencoe. 🌿 Despite the rain, their day was nothing short of magical—misty mountains, heartfelt vows, and the kind of love that shines through any weather.
Thank you, Adam and Sinead, for letting us be part of your story!

✨ Throwback to one of our earliest Bog Cotton weddings – and what a magical day it was! ✨
Lesley and David’s woodland wedding wasn’t one of our usual elopements, but it truly set the tone for the unforgettable celebrations we love to capture. 🌿
💍 They tied the knot with their friends and family, surrounded by ancient trees in the breathtaking Larachmhor Gardens, celebrated with stunning beachside photos, planted a beautiful "tree of love," and danced the night away under the stars at a magical forest ceilidh! 🌲💫
Over the years, we’ve had the honour of working with couples at incredible weddings across the Western Highlands – from intimate elopements to grand celebrations. Whatever your vision, we’d love to help make it a reality. Get in touch, and let’s craft your dream day together! 🌟

SAY AYE TO ICY "I DOS" 💍❄️
We're skating towards the official first day of winter at record speed and we're excited for our forthcoming winter elopements! If you're a little hesitant about marrying in the wilds during the winter months, don't be, it's absolutely MAGICAL!
Whether you’re rocking long johns under your dress, donning your favourite fluffy boots or tossing your coat aside to embrace the Scottish winter like a champ, we’re ready for all the love-filled craziness ⚡️

SAY YES TO A FILTHY DRESS 🙌
Come rain or shine, there's one thing that's pretty much a certainty at wilderness elopements. Brides-to-be should come to terms with the fact that their glorious dress is most probably going to get a bit dirty! But that dirt tells a story and we LOVE it!
Here's to letting your hem drag through the heather, and to the wondrous Sinead & Adam, who fully embraced it 😍

SPINDRIFT KISSED 🌪️🌊💍
Windswept would be an understatement for Ella & Liam’s incredible elopement today. At one point during the ceremony the whole loch appeared to rise and swirl into a giant spindrift. Absolutely magical!

After a wintry wonderland Bog Cotton wedding yesterday we came home to a really kind review from Rebecca and David who were married on the shore of Loch Morar last year.
Thanks so much R&D!
"Paula and Trevor helped plan our elopement and made our day very special. They recommended great local suppliers and put our mind at ease. Paula was lovely doing the vows and Trevor took incredible pictures. Thank you!"

CHEESIN’ AT TIORAM 💍🧀
This afternoon we put a ring on the gorgeous L & M down at Castle Tioram (pronounced Cheerum). Not only is this location a SUPERB place to say “I do”, it’s also a really special place for us as it’s where we first worked together at Becky & Leigh’s elopement back in 2018. Bog Cotton Elopements was born ❤️

ELOPEMENT "WITTERS"👼💍
Thankfully, we're not talking jitters here, we're taking the ultimate WITNESS / BABYSITTER combo!
Lots of our couples simply want to disappear into the wilds, just them and their kiddos, and put a ring on it. No fuss. No fanfare. However, this can prove tricky as couples are legally required to have two witnesses over the age of 16 present.
Happily, Trevor can be Witness no.1 & we can always organise another (who'll occasionally double-up as a babysitter)! Here's Paula's mum, Patricia, in action with wee Isla at Claire & Alex's GORGEOUS Camusdarach beach ceremony 😍

NOVEMBER IS THE NEW MAY 🍂✨💍
Massive congratulations to Emma & Craig who married in the gardens of Borrodale House this afternoon surrounded by golden trees (pics to follow).
Over the years, more and more couples have been choosing to say “I do” in autumn rather than spring or summer, and we totally get it. It’s an incredible time of year in the Highlands.
Great to work with Brogan from Bloom & Graze again today. Luckily for any would-be couples, she’s not a photographer (we did try!) but the gal does a GLORIOUS wedding spread 🍓🥗🥪🍤

CITY SLICKERS 💍🏴
It makes a change to meet up in the big smoke instead of the boggy wilderness! Naturally, we still gravitated towards something that resembled an altar. We’re not sure if the Devil’s Roast is available for micro-weddings, but if you’re after an inner city elopement, this is goals ✨

Who are we?
When photographer, Trevor Wilson, and Humanist Celebrant, Paula Wilkinson, met in 2018 at the wedding of Rebecca and Leigh at ancient Castle Tioram on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it was the beginning of an exciting new venture that has since taken them on a marrying mission across the Highlands of Scotland where they’ve been honoured to be involved in the creation of some seriously epic elopements!
It was the simplicity, beauty and romance of Rebecca and Leigh’s elopement to such a wild, wonderful and remote part of Scotland that captured both Trevor and Paula’s imagination and so it was decided that they would join forces and offer loved-up couples a bespoke, adventure elopement experience that would knock their socks off and so Bog Cotton Scottish Elopements was born!
Bog Cotton may sound like something you might flush down the toilet, but it’s actually a gloriously ethereal flower which grows out of peat bogs across the wilds of Scotland. Aside from the fact that the sight of thousands of white, fluffy Bog Cotton heads dotted across a windswept glen is incredible, the message behind something so beautiful having the ability to grow out of nothing but mud, is the perfect analogy to Trevor and Paula’s vision for their adventure elopements. Plus, if you stretch your imagination a little, Bog Cotton even looks like tiny veiled faerie brides!
So if you’re looking to elope to the Scottish wilderness for a one-of-a-kind micro wedding, then look no further. Paula and Trevor will use their extensive knowledge of Scotland to find your perfect ceremony location. By getting to know your preferred landscape, how adventurous you’re willing to get, the number of guests attending as well a plethora of other factors, they can determine the best possible location and timeline for your big day.
Trevor is based near Glasgow and has twenty years experience as a wedding and travel photographer and has captured the magic at hundreds of elopements and weddings all over Scotland throughout his career. Specialising is a more informal documentary style of photography he is perfectly suited to capturing your elopement for you, no matter where you choose to have it or what happens on the day. He definitely prefers to photograph more relaxed and intimate weddings and feels that you can really focus on the important parts of a wedding ceremony that way. Absolutely loving the Scottish wilderness Trevor is more than happy to work with you to help choose a location that will add that extra bit of beauty to your photographs whilst keeping the adventurous aspect at a comfortable level for you.
Paula lives in the western Highlands and trained as a Celebrant with Fuze Ceremonies and now represents the company across the Highlands and Islands. Having graduated with first class honours in English Literature and Journalism, she loves the creative element of writing and delivering wedding scripts. Paula firmly believes that no matter what your journey as a couple, it is a one of a kind love story and she is eager to tell the tale! Due to her affiliation with Fuze Ceremonies, Paula is fully insured and benefits from the Fuze “back-up” promise, so even if she is struck down by illness on the morning of your big day, there’s a full back-up procedure in place to assure your big day can still go ahead.
Both Trevor and Paula are mildly obsessed, okay MASSIVELY obsessed, with mega adventurous couples and will climb mountains, kayak into the middle of lochs or stand on a beach in a storm to capture the perfect moment to ensure your memories from your big day will never be forgotten. They’re also obsessed with dogs at weddings!
