Level 1 - Absolute beginner - This class is for those of who have never formally learnt the basic moves in both Solo Charleston and Jazz. Like all of our level 1 classes we will learn the basic footwork and then introduce some of the most well known moves within that style. Level 2 - Intermediate - This class is for those of you who have already learnt some Solo Charleston and Jazz, you are ready
to start getting your feet a little tangled with tricky moves as well as include styling and musicality in your dancing. Like all of our classes at Swing Patrol these classes are drop in classes, meaning no bookings are required. Just turn up on the night and be ready for some fun! Are guys welcome also? Yes, both guys and gals are very welcome in these classes! Guys can look just as good doing solo Charleston and Jazz as girls and Peta is excited to have a combination of people in the classes. What shoes to wear? If you are new to solo jazz and Charleston I would advise that you wear flat rubber soled shoes. Something with a little bit of grip will mean that you can balance and stay grounded more easily. However, when learning some moves, like spins and swivels, a slightly harder soled shoes can allow some more freedom (if you have bad knees/ankles then something less sticky is advisable). Whatever the type of material on the sole, flat is definitely the best option to start with. Girls, you are more than welcome to wear heels if you like, and class is a good environment to start to work on your dancing ability in heels, however please be aware that this does make dancing considerably harder for most people, so perhaps bring some flats as well in case you want to change mid way though class. Guys, you can obviously wear your leather soles if you like, but as mentioned above, slippery shoes can make keeping control over your centre and balance a lot more difficult. Rubber soles are a good thing to consider t least every now and then.
