On the first floor is The Ram's most haunted and terrifying room, the Bishop's Room. A medium pushing open its door was once lifted off the ground and flung across the corridor. The atmosphere inside is oppressive and disturbing.
A ghostly cavalier has been known to materialize by the dressing table and stride purposefully across to the opposite wall.
Two monks have been seen shimmering in one corner. Witnesses have heard the terrified screams of a man who was, reputedly, murdered here by having his head thrust into the fire.
A phantom shepherd and his dog have been seen near the door, whilst those who spend the night in the room have often attracted the lustful attentions of either an incubus or a succubus. 'Rather a lot for one room,' observed John Humphries to me with decided understatement

Insole Court was built in 1856

Inspired by William Burges' work on Cardiff Castle, James Harvey Insole redesigned his modest house in the gothic revival style, which can still be seen in some of the rooms and the architecture of the time.

After his death his son Fredrick would go on to redecorate most of the rooms of Insole Court in a toned down more homely style.

In 1932 Cardiff Corporation acquired the estate to make way for Cardiff's orbital road system (Western Avenue); the ornamental park was sold for housing and the streets given the Insole names they carry to this day. The last of the family left in 1938.

Since then Insole Court has become a much loved focus on the community. However, when darkness falls and the staff lock up, Insole Court doesn't seem to be empty after all.

Over the years many strange things have been seen by staff members and visitors which cannot be explained rationally. From the sounds of children coming from empty rooms, a mysterious woman in black watching from the staircase and the sight of a ghostly black dog that vanishes into thin air. Could Insole Court be housing the spirits of the family that put so much love into the creation of their ideal family home?

Join us as we explore the rooms of this incredible house, recounting the history of the building and the family and of course telling you the many paranormal experiences that have been reported over the years 👻
