FINAL FEW WEEKS

Delegation is key for the final weeks! Shed the stress and give tasks to other people to make sure you aren’t doing everything yourself right up until the aisle walk. Enlist your bridal party, or have a dedicated professional (yes, like me!) step in for you in the final few weeks to get a handover and take on all those pesky last minute tasks and check ins.

And once that’s taken care of….It’s time for you to get some rest and spend some time with that lovely partner of yours before you take this next step! In the chaos of wedding planning it can be easy to lose sight of the end goal, which is a new chapter with each other. Spend some time together with weddings off the agenda (ban the word from your evening) and enjoy your last few weeks as an engaged couple!

FINAL FEW WEEKS

Your bank balance is about to take a final hit with the majority of your suppliers requesting final balances cleared 2-4 weeks before the wedding. Make sure you keep a list of who has been paid and who is yet to be paid, and if anyone needs to be paid on the day, have that cash ready to give someone the day before.

Once you have your final numbers, it’s time to put them all in some kind of order. Plan out your seating with spreadsheets, pen and paper or a digital tool like Top Table Planner to make it easier. Remember to make a note on your table plan for your catering team - they will need to know where children are sitting, and where anyone with dietary requirements will be seated

FINAL FEW WEEKS

It’s happening, it’s nearly here! You’ve spent months getting your plans together for your big day and now you’re in the home stretch, the final few weeks.

A couple of very important things to do in your final weeks to ensure you have a stress-free and relaxed day:

- Make sure you check in with each of your suppliers for the day. Make sure they have everything they need and everyone is on the same page. Confirm final timings with them by sending out a schedule of the day - it’s always a good idea to send out the same comprehensive schedule and list of suppliers to everyone, so they all have a good idea about where they fit into the wider plan, and not just their small part.
- Speak to any guests you haven’t heard from or are concerned about and ensure you know their plans. If guests are travelling from further away, check in with them and make sure they have booked their travel and accommodation. You don’t want a panicked call the night before when they can’t find a hotel room!

“I wanted to wear something a little less traditional too so I worked with to create a green linen three piece suit. It was perfect, although quite ‘toasty’ on the day when it turned out to be such a hot September Saturday!

It was my Birthday two days before the Wedding Day so we went to for some beautiful cufflinks and Gucci for some lucky socks! It was great fun working our way down Bond Street and being treated to a glass of Birthday / Wedding celebratory champagne everywhere we went!

I chose Jess’s Engagement ring from so we continued working with them to create our wedding Bands - Boodles also kindly lent Jess a beautiful pair of Vintage Diamond Drop Earrings to wear on the day.” - BEN

“I found the Wedding Dress shopping process harder than I thought - mainly because all wedding dresses are so beautiful(!) but I was struggling to find one that I felt like myself in, rather than ‘dressing up’ in costume as a Bride! When I initially tried on the Alexa Midi Dress at in Dalston it was a ‘wild card’ and not in the running. However, as the wedding day plan began to take shape and we decided on a Town Hall London wedding it quickly became the obvious front runner.

I felt like I was taking a bit of a risk, wearing a midi dress that was so far from the conventional wedding dress look I always expected to wear, but I have absolutely no regrets! The big bow was so fun and I worked with an incredible tailor local to us (Paul Moreland in Canonbury) who worked tirelessly to ensure it fitted perfectly on the day.” - Jess

It was great to attend the Lord-Lieutenant’s briefing for Deputy Lieutenants this morning at County Hall in Nottingham. Professor Veronica Pickering MBS HAC HM Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire outlined her vision for the Nottinghamshire Lieutenancy and the importance of our role as Deputy Lieutenants as we continue to support the interests of communities in Nottinghamshire.

We received interesting presentations from the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police, Kate Maynell, fellow DL and Interim Executive Director of the RSC Sandeep Mahal MBE, England Director of the RSPB Michael Copleston and Dan Cornell from Kings Award winners Notts LGBT+ Network.

I was also honoured to be one of the recently appointed DL’s to receive my official DL Commission which was presented this morning by the Lord Lieutenant.

One of the pleasures I have is continuing to work with the fabulous team on their private hire events. As well as the incredible array of music they have on offer, the food is just AMAZING! Using fresh, local and seasonal produce, .kitchen makes a variety of flavourful dishes, with colours and textures inspired by Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines.

I’m thrilled to be a Judge again this year for The Wedding Industry Awards. Established in 2011, is the only Regional and National client-voted, expert-judged Awards in the UK wedding industry.

Today I spent some time completing the next stage of the judging process, reviewing the regional finalists in the Planner category. 8 regional awards events will take place in November where the Regional Winner in each category will be announced.

The Regional Winners then go through to the National Final.
The National Winners are announced and presented at the national awards event in London in January 2024 (hence why the current awards are TWIA 2024).

Exciting times! Good luck to all the regional finalists!

Like Val, my background is in legal, but I left my legal life behind to follow my true passion of wedding planning. Truth is, I just adore all things weddings! When it comes to serving drinks at your wedding, you can be as creative or traditional as you like. Your chosen wedding venue and/or caterers should be eager and excited to bring your vision to life.

Why not consider having a signature cocktail?

As well as being a fun, personal addition to your wedding, serving one or two signature cocktails can be a practical choice as bar staff won’t have to open, and therefore charge you, for lots of different spirits. Choose a cocktail you love, a drink that reminds you of somewhere special or ask your mixologist to create something new and unique, just for you.

WELCOME DRINKS

Many couples choose to serve drinks and canapes after the ceremony. This gives guests a chance to mingle and catch up before the reception. It’s also a good way to keep them occupied while the wedding party is having their photos taken.

I’d recommend keeping things light at this point. You don’t want guests getting too tipsy before the party has even begun! You should also do your best to cater for everyone on your guest list including children and anyone abstaining from alcohol.

Along with a good meal, enjoying a few drinks tends to be something people look forward to when attending a wedding. If you’ve never hosted a large event, planning a drinks menu can be overwhelming. There’s a lot of time to fill and you may have multiple events to cater if your wedding is taking place over a few days.
