🦉⭐️𝗠𝗜𝗗𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗬𝗛𝗘𝗠 𝗔𝗧 𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟!🌙🦔

I recently visited Primary 1 at Victoria Park Primary School to deliver a 'midnight mayhem' themed interactive animal education session!

This curriculum-based topic extended their classroom learning and introduced the little explorers to the things that go bump in the night!

We discussed what a nocturnal animal is, why animals choose the night life and the amazing ways that they are adapted to life in the dark.

Last year Severus snake and I made a brief appearance on the Halloween episode of 𝘽𝙍𝙊𝙎 𝙄𝙉 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙏𝙍𝙊𝙇!

This Halloween, enjoy a unique mix of seasonal fun and wildlife discovery at Whitehead Railway Museum. The museum will be transformed with Halloween décor, family games, and fascinating interactive animal education sessions.

Event Highlights include:

• 45 minute interactive animal education session with Wee Critters
• Short steam train ride

• Photo opportunities with animals and seasonal displays

🌏🇦🇺𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗪𝗢𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗧 𝗗𝗔𝗬...🇦🇺🌏

and there's no better time to celebrate these marvellous marsupials!

I have been incredibly lucky to visit Australia a few times and to experience the amazing flora and fauna of this beautiful part of the world.

More than 80% of the plants and animals found on this amazing continent are unique to this place alone and are found nowhere else in the world! However, these species are also under increasing threat due to habitat loss, predators and wildfires.

While many people know the iconic koalas, kangaroos or kookaburras, here are our:

𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝟱 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗨𝗟 𝗪𝗢𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗧!

🦘They are the second largest marsupial (red kangaroos being the largest)!

⛏Wombats are master diggers and create vast burrows and tunnels underground.

🔥These burrows also help to protect other species, such as echidnas, wallabies, lizards and birds in the aftermath of bushfires by providing shelter and water.

💩Wombats are the only mammals known to produce cube-shaped poops!

⚠️Let's get to the bottom of our next fun fact...as wombats use their rear end as a form of defence against predators. They dive down their burrows, blocking the entrance with their butts (which are extremely tough and can withstand scratching and biting).

and today is a fantastic chance to celebrate our cold-blooded crew!

Reptiles have walked the Earth from more than 340 million years but despite playing a vital role in our ecosystems, they are facing increasing threats in their natural habitats and many species are being driven to the edge of extinction!

From slithering snakes to colourful chameleons and gorgeous geckos to terrific turtles reptiles are a diverse group of animals.

Here at Wee Critters we provide a range of curriculum-based topics and our little reptile ambassadors do a fantastic job helping to deliver a range of important educational messages including:

and much more!

Interactive animal education sessions will run at the following times:

• 11am to 11.45am - FULLY BOOKED
• 12pm to 12.45pm
• 1.30pm to 2.15pm
• 2.30pm to 3.15pm

Tickets are limited so call Carrickfergus Castle on 028 9335 1273 (Tuesday to Sunday) to book your space. Normal admission to Carrickfergus Castle applies. Annual passes can also be used to pre-book! This event is suitable for children aged 3 and over.

🌿𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔 𝗗𝗔𝗬!🌿

Did you know that we are officially 'red panda guardians' through the Red Panda Network? We donate monthly to help secure a sustainable future for red pandas and the people and wildlife who share their home.

A lot of my professional career over the last 20 years has focused on small carnivore conservation and the red panda is a species close to my heart and one which I was lucky to work with for quite a number of years. Unfortunately the global population of this species has declined by 50% over the last 20 years and there may be as few as 2,500 left in the wild.

Here at Wee Critters we firmly believe that developing an appreciation of wildlife in our children is a fundamental element in safeguarding the safety and future of our wildlife and environment. Our mission is to bring the wonder of wildlife straight to your classroom, living room or event with the aim of providing a unique, fun, memorable and educational experience which will inspire a lifelong appreciation for wildlife and a commitment to playing an active role in the protection and conservation of animals and the natural environment.

🛁 𝗦𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗦𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗨𝗥'𝗦 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗕𝗔𝗧𝗛!💦

Every day's a busy day here at Wee Critters HQ!

Our armadillos loves to dig and burrow but this means that they often get pretty grubby. A few days ago I spent the morning giving my armadillo friends a wee bath and moisturising their amazing skin.

Arthur is the most chilled out armadillo you could ever meet...absolutely nothing phases him but he isn't a massive fan of getting cleaned up which resulted in him stealing my sponge much to his delight.

Following their baths, each armadillo was weighed. Armadillos are covered in 'plated armour' which helps to protect them from predators but this can also make it difficult to notice any significant changes to their weight.

The health and care of our Wee Critters is my number one priority and once a month I record the weight of each armadillo to track their health, any changes and diet!
