Our mission is to bring the wonder of wildlife straight to your classroom, living room or event with the aim of providing a unique, fun, memorable and educational experience which will inspire a lifelong appreciation for wildlife and a commitment to playing an active role in the protection and conservation of animals and the natural environment. The Wee Critters and I have been having a lovely time visiting schools, to deliver our curriculum-based interactive animal education sessions.

Betty the Brazilian black tarantula and I even had the pleasure of meeting this festive little friend during a recent session.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Dunclug Nursery School and Dunclug Primary School to chat about the world around us, the animals we share it with and the 'wee ways' we can all help to make the world a better place.

Mr Beacom and his amazing team have supported us ever since Wee Critters began and it's always a pleasure to return to this amazing school to meet all of their little explorers!

🦉❄️ 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗧-𝗜𝗙𝗨𝗟 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗥𝗧 🍂🦔

At this time of year most of our interactive animal education sessions at schools focus on our ‘winter is coming’ topic. This curriculum-based topic celebrates this special season, teaching little explorers all about Autumn, how animals are adapted to life in cold climates and the amazing ways that animals survive the season including hibernation and migration!

At one of the schools I visited last week I spotted these amazing displays of the artwork that the classes had been working on and the wee critters and I just had to stop for a quick photograph!

It's 'world kindness day' and here at Wee Critters we believe that there are wee ways that we can all change the world no matter how big or small we are!

All of our interactive animal education sessions include our 'wee ways to change the world' which are simple every day things that we can all do to make the world a better place for ourselves and the wildlife we share it with. Our last but most important 'wee way' is to 'BE KIND' to each other and to the animals we share our world with.

A few months ago we were invited to take part in a filming project for BBC Teach.

As part of this online educational content, our 'marvellous minibeasts' helped some little explorers discover this fascinating KS1 science topic.

💕'𝗢𝗪𝗟' 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗦 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘!🦉

The Wee Critters and I recently had a 'hoot' when we were invited to attend Mark and Megan's big day!

Following their ceremony we delivered an interactive animal education session for their guests, giving them an opportunity to learn all about the wee critters and to meet some of them up close.

Some of the critters even featured in some of this lovely couple's wedding snaps.

Congratulations again to Mark and Megan and thank you so much for inviting me and the wee critters to be part of such a special time in your lives.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the 194th St Mary's Parish Girls' Brigade. We had a fantastic time chatting about the world around us, the animals we share it with and the 'wee ways' that we can all help to make the world a better place.

🖍𝗦𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗘'𝗦 𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞!🐢

Back at the start of the summer I was going for a walk on the beach with my family when I discovered that I had accidentally run out of dog poo bags. I approached a lady and her dog to see if they could spare a bag when out of the corner of my eye I saw a little person running towards us at great speed, shouting 'Allan, it's me Sophie'!

Turns out Sophie had met me and the wee critters at her school and recognised me instantly at the beach. After Sophie and her grandparents helped me out that day, they have visited lots of my interactive animal education sessions especially at Carrickfergus Castle.

Last week I was delighted when Sophie presented me with this amazing artwork she had created. I think she captured my likeness perfectly and I am so chuffed with the picture that it is now proudly on display at my computer so that I can admire it while I work!

The Wee Critters and I had a fantastic time delivering interactive animal education sessions at Carrickfergus Castle and Ballycopeland Windmill this half term!

Thank you so much to all of you who came along and joined in the fun. It was fantastic introducing all of the little explorers to the animals we share our world with and the 'wee ways' we can all make a difference. I have loved seeing some of the feedback and recommendations that have come through since the events.

A massive thanks as well to the staff at the castle and the windmill who, as usual, looked after us all so well!

I'm sure most of you grew up with a favourite childhood stuffed toy who became your friend, confidant, playmate and who played a major role in countless stories and memories of your childhood...and I'm certain that your little explorers have a special toy that has become an important member of your family.

This owl-o-ween come along to Carrickfergus Castle for some hair-raising half term fun with Wee Critters!

Discover the role of animals in some of our superstitions and local myths and legends. You can also learn more about nocturnal animals that cause ‘mid-knight’ mayhem!

Meet my owl-mazing friend, some of our slithering snakes, Charlotte the tarantula and other amazing members of our wee critters family!

💙𝗔 𝗚𝗜𝗙𝗧 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗦!💙

As we mentioned earlier, it's 'make a difference day' and we truly believe that we can all make wee changes in this world.

Last year during my visit to Ballymacash Primary School, Miss Colhoun and I had a great chat about her planned travels to the Galápagos Islands. The islands are most famous for their large number of incredible endemic animal and plant species that are found nowhere else in the world including:

🐢Galapagos tortoise
🦎Marine iguana
🦭Galapagos fur seals and Galapagos sea lions
🐬Dolphins and whales
🐧Galapagos penguins

a variety of sea birds including the albatross... and my personal favourite, the blue-footed b***y!

I told Miss Colhoun that I had always dreamed of visiting these amazing islands and especially seeing blue-footed bo***es and when I returned to Ballymacash Primary School earlier this month I was excited to hear all about Miss Colhoun's adventures over the summer.

You can imagine my surprise when Miss Colhoun gave me my very own blue-footed b***y friend that she had brought back from her travels. My new 'wee critter' now lives in my car and every day that I am travelling to my sessions he brings a smile to my face.

It's amazing how acts of kindness can mean so much and bring so much joy!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Islandmagee Camera & Digital Imaging Club to chat to them about the Wee Critters and to help them capture some amazing snaps of some members of my animal family.

Just check out the fearsome photos they got of some of our 'marvellous minibeasts' including Stampy the giant African millipede, Thor the thorny cricket, Wendell the whip scorpion and Charlotte the Chile rose tarantula.

Thanks to the club for making me so welcome, being so respectful to the wee critters throughout and for sharing the amazing images.

🐰𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗬 𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗕𝗬?🥚 I hope that you are all having a lovely Easter and that you are all getting stuck into some yummy treats from the Easter bunny… BUT did you know that the Easter bunny doesn’t visit everywhere in the world? In fact while many of us associate Easter with bunnies, in Australia the rabbit is not a species they like to celebrate! Rabbits were introduced to this amazing continent many years ago and are now a widespread pest causing lots of issues for native Australian species. In Australia they celebrate quite a different wee critter at Easter. The bilby is a small, long eared marsupial but, like so many amazing species on our planet, it is endangered. This is mostly due to the introduction of non-native predators and invasive species such as cats and foxes and other factors such as habitat loss. I was lucky enough to meet some of these amazing wee critters on one of my trips to Australia and got the chance to learn about the vital conservation and breeding work being carried out down under!
