🊉🐍 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝟯 𝗧𝗢 𝟵𝟯!🊚🐢

This morning I started my day introducing the wee critters to some very little explorers in nursery before enjoying an incredible afternoon at Glenmachan Tower House Private Nursing Home

I met explorers from the age of 3 to 93 today, showing how wildlife can bring us all together and can bring smiles to everyone young and old.

At Wee Critters we firmly believe it doesn’t matter how big or small you are there are ‘wee ways’ that we can all make the world a better place for each other and for the animals we share it with!

Thank you to everyone we met today for making us so welcome!

If you would be interested in a Wee Critters visit to your group, day centre, care home, assisted living facility or residential home just get in touch for more information.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting the little explorers at Kilroot Community Playgroup!

As always it was amazing to see how excited everyone got when they met Craig the hissing cockroach, got close to a tarantula, watched Trevor the toad leaping across the hall and met so many other members of our wee critter family!

Thanks for making us so welcome Kilroot Community Playgroup

Pepper the barn owl and I even stopped to check out this amazing noticeboard that they had created!

Today I received this amazing review from a teacher at Ballyholme Primary School who recently booked our Jungle VIPs topic for the primary 6 pupils who were busy learning all about rainforests!

Our 'Jungle VIP' interactive animal education session is one of the many curriculum based topics that we offer.

From leaf litter lovers to the high fliers, the little explorers and teachers meet our rainforest friends and learn all about the rainforests of the world, the role they play, the amazing plants and animals that call them home, the threats they are facing and the wee ways we can all help!

Lots of the little explorers that I visited today showed up in their mismatched socks so my best friend Teddy and I decided to join in and got kitted out in our odd socks too.

This special day marks the start of anti bullying week and encourages us to celebrate our differences and the unique things that make us all so special!

Here at Wee Critters all of our sessions include some simple ‘wee ways to change the world’ and with a little more kindness (to each other and to animals) we can all make the world a better place!

The International Zoo Educators Association has more than 300 members around the world and unites educators to achieve biodiversity conservation by encouraging sustainable behaviours in people and communities. Members collaboratively aim to provide innovative educational programmes to create connections to nature, foster empathy for wildlife and motivate environmental behaviours.

Our mission, at Wee Critters is to bring the wonder of wildlife straight to your classroom, group or event with the aim of providing a unique, fun, memorable and educational experience which will inspire a lifelong appreciation for wildlife and a commitment to playing an active role in the protection and conservation of animals and the natural environments.

It’s that special time of year when the world around us changes – the leaves are changing colour, there’s a chill in the air and the animals are busy preparing for the winter ahead!

We recently visited the nursery class at Silverstream Primary School and Nursery Unit to deliver our 'winter is coming' interactive animal education session.

Our ‘winter is coming’ topic can help you and your class celebrate this special season and enhance your classroom learning. Along with his family of ‘wee critters’, Allan will bring the natural world straight to your class as your little explorers learn:

🍁all about Autumn
🍂the changes this special season brings
🊚how animals are adapted to life in cold climates
🊔and the amazing ways that animals survive the season including hibernation and migration.

We also look at the threats facing our native wildlife in Autumn and the ‘wee ways’ that we can help in our homes, schools and wild places!

You can even tune into the C2K Newsdesk to enjoy Wee Critter’s educational video resource all about Autumn or download our ‘winter is coming’ activity booklet for worksheets, classroom activities, crafts and more!

🊉🎃𝗔 𝗪𝗘𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗊𝗧𝗚𝗠𝗘!🎃🐍

I recently visited this amazing little explorer’s birthday and I was absolutely blown away when his mum got in touch to let me know that he decided to dress as ‘Allan the Explorer’ for Halloween.

Just look at his amazing costume and his very own wee critters!

I have always been passionate about wildlife from as far back as I can remember and one of the main reasons I started Wee Critters was to try to inspire young people to care for the wildlife we share our world with.

Here’s to future generations of little explorers who will hopefully become guardians of our planet and make it a better place!

The castle grounds transformed into a school of magic and mystery where little witches and wizards made their own wands, created preposterous potions, enjoyed spooky storytelling, rode on the train of terror and even took part in our care of magical creatures classes where they got to meet and learn all about some amazing wee critters including Severus snake, Pepper the owl, Craig the cockroach, Arthur the armadillo, Charlotte the spider, Stuart the mouse and many more!

We had an amazing afternoon at the Purple Turnip Festival.

We met so many incredible little explorers and their families who braved the weather to come and spend time meeting and learning about wildlife and the wee ways we can all change the world.

We even had a visit from two slightly larger critters when Jack Skellington and Oogie Boogie called by to say hello and to dry off in our lovely gazebo.

Thanks so much to Lisburn City Centre for inviting us back again. The Purple Turnip Festival is an event that we really look forward to doing each year and it’s always a pleasure to see you all.

The Wee Critters and I recently visited some amazing little explorers, from Primary 2 at Drumachose Primary School, to deliver our 'home sweet home' curriculum-based interactive animal education sessions.

The 'home sweet home' topic allows little explorers to take a trip around the world (without ever leaving school) to meet the animals that call forests, deserts, mountains and grasslands home!

In addition to introducing a range of different habitats we also investigate how animals are adapted to these environments, the threats facing these eco-systems and the 'wee ways' that we can help to protect them and become 'habitat heroes'!

It’s my favourite time of day when my nocturnal friends all start to wake up!

This evening I am catching up with admin and I have a sweet little assistant as Wee Dave the sugar glider has joined me for some quality time together.

If there are any typos in my replies to your enquiries you will therefore know that it’s a special addition from Wee Dave as he has pitter pattered across the keyboard on his way to explore and get up to mischief. He can also be quite distracting with his noisy eating habits while enjoying a wee treat (just listen to the video).

Dave lives with some sugar glider friends who he can often be found snuggled up with in their nest but he is also super sociable and loves to spend time together so it’s always great fun to hang out with this amazing wee critter.

This evening I had the pleasure of being invited to Ulster Wildlife’s Wildlife Watch Club’ at the Bog Meadows Nature Reserve.

The Wildlife Watch Club is an environmental action club for children and families with lots of fun nature and wildlife activities on offer.

It was fantastic to see so many little explorers who are already so passionate and knowledgeable about wildlife and conservation at such a young age. I know that I would have loved to be part of such an amazing club when I was a kid!

We had some amazing discussions about native species, invasive species, threats that face our local and global biodiversity and the ‘wee ways’ we can all change the world.

A massive thanks to Ulster Wildlife for welcoming us tonight.

Did you know that October is Positive Ageing Month in Northern Ireland?

Positive Ageing month is a fantastic time to celebrate the contribution that older people make in our families and our communities.

Here at Wee Critters I am lucky enough to meet explorers aged from 2 to 102!

My wee critters and I routinely visit groups and organisations, care homes, residential homes and day centres in the community with our interactive animal education sessions.

We particularly love taking part in intergenerational experiences like this recent visit to Bell Rotary House where their little neighbours joined us! It was fantastic seeing everyone getting to know each other, having fun and learning all about animals. We always say it doesn't matter how big or small we are - we can all change the world!

🊉𝗣𝗘𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗌𝘄𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗌 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗌𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗞!✹

I recently visited a nursery school and Pepper and I spotted one of our favourite books, ‘the owl who was afraid of the dark’ by Jill Tomlinson.

Here at Wee Critters we are big fans of reading and have a full library of books (mostly animal-themed). In fact, several of our wee critters are named after famous literary characters including:

🊉Dobby the white-faced owl
🐍Severus snake the common boa
🐞Trevor the cane toad
🐢Esio Trot the Sulcata tortoise
🕷Charlotte the spider
🐇Peter rabbit
🐀Bruno the mouse
🊔Huckleberry the hedgehog

We recognise the power that wildlife and reading have in the imagination of children and we love to see amazing animals featured in children's stories.

We often get invited to visit schools to focus on a book that they have been reading together as a class, such as Owl Babies, The Gruffalo, Harry Potter, the Hodgeheg – just to name a few!

The wee critters and I recently visited the nursery classes at Lowwood Primary School & Nursery Unit. I was delighted when their teacher got in touch to show me this amazing Autumn artwork that they were inspired to make following the visit!

Isn’t it just ‘owl-mazing’!?

As we experience the wonders of Autumn, the animals that we share our world with are busy preparing for the long winter.

Our ‘winter is coming’ topic allows your class to learn how animals are adapted to life in different climates and seasons including hibernation and migration.

Book your Wee Critters interactive animal education session today and bring learning to life for your class!

One of the best things about visiting your schools and groups is some of the amazing scenery of our wee country that I get the chance to enjoy and appreciate.

Arthur and I are off to visit a little school this afternoon but we stopped off on route to have a quick snack (mealworms for him and a standard sandwich for me) and to take in the sunny afternoon.

Can anyone spot where we are?

Along with the arrival of Autumn, this is also an important time for the native hedgehogs in our wee country as they prepare to hibernate for the winter.

We offer a range of curriculum-based topics for schools and groups including our 'Winter is Coming' theme. These interactive animal education sessions allow little explorers to learn about the different seasons, the amazing adaptations animals have to survive in extreme climates and also looks at hibernation and migration! It also gives us the opportunity to discuss the ‘wee ways’ that we can ‘love our locals’ and support our native wildlife.

One of the best things about the work that we do is getting the chance to meet so many amazing people in communities across our wee country.

It doesn't matter if you are 1 or 100 - meeting the wee critters brings a smile to all!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this wee group at a local day centre.

Everyone got in on the fun and even joined me in being 'explorers' for the afternoon, as we all chatted about wildlife and everyone met my wee critter friends!
