Very pleased to present the West Dunbartonshire Community map of the Antonine Wall!

I had the pleasure of creating this through a series of guided walks and workshops conducted with 60+ individuals living along the Wall in West Dunbartonshire.

The aim was to encourage the use of the Wall as an outdoor venue for local walks and facilitate social interaction and the local community provided valuable input regarding information about the area along the route.

The map was produced as part of the Antonine Wall’s participation as a pilot site in the UK National Commission for UNESCO’s ‘Local to Global’ project, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Great project to be involved in meeting the local community and learning more about a really interesting and historic area of Scotland.

We are very happy to present the West Dunbartonshire Community map of the Antonine Wall!

The Antonine Wall Community map in West Dunbartonshire was created in early 2024 by Neil Thomson with a group of community members over 60, local to the Antonine Wall.

This map shows, points of interest along the Antonine Wall and is the perfect companion for small wanders or longer walks between Old Kilpatrick and Duntocher.
You can download it from our blog and read more about local places of interest: https://rediscoveringtheantoninewall.org/2024/04/23/west-dunbartonshire-antonine-wall-community-map/

This map was produced as part of the Antonine Wall's participation as a pilot site in the UK National Commission for UNESCO's 'Local to Global' project, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Working with the team we decided to work with an audience of people aged 60+ living along the Wall in West Dunbartonshire. The aim was to encourage the use of the Wall as an outdoor venue and for local walks and facilitate social interaction. Over three weeks we organised three indoor workshops and two walks suitable for all abilities.

Have recently for some reason had a lot of enquiries for prints of this artwork. I must admit it is one of my favourites, It is outside 'The Royal Stewart' now 'The Meadow Inn' Burrell Street, Crieff. The image is showing 'Crieff Folk Club' which was held at 'The Royal Stewart' and in the centre of picture is Billy Connolly and to his left in red jacket is 'Gerry Rafferty' they performed in the group 'The Humblebums' on the right in pin stripe suit and hat is 'Malky McCormick' a great pal and fellow cartoonist who passed away in 2019. The cadets heading up to the drill hall are there because the Folk Club was on a Wednesday night, same night as cadets. The man to left of 'Gerry Rafferty' is 'Archie Gibson' who formed Crieff Folk Club back in the 1960's. When I posted the original for sale a few years ago it was sold straight away to Archie Gibson's son in Comrie. The Meadow Inn also asked to buy original, as it was sold managed to provide them with a large framed print. I also used the image in one of my Crieff Calendars a couple of years ago. Now with demand for prints, I can offer mounted cello wrapped 14" x 11" prints for £25 or £30 if UK postage required. Please message me or email [email protected] if you wish to purchase a print. They will also be available at Strathearn Arts, Comrie Street, Crieff in the run up to Christmas. A great nostalgic image of Crieff.
