This week has not only been it was also a week in which we received another lovely surprise. Unbeknownst to us we’d been nominated for an award for which is today- in its inaugural year! An award created to recognise all that’s great in the florist industry, from those growing the flowers, wholesale flower businesses, floral designers, florist shops. We were quite taken aback that we’d not only been nominated but were then delighted to hear we’d made their 100 faces of floristry for 2024!! I’ve got my lovely friend Katherine from Forget Me Not Flower Designers and Flower School for taking the time to nominate us. Right from the beginning Katherine has been a huge supporter of - she LOVES British flowers and totally gets what we do and the fact it’s not easy to grow flowers in the UK but especially not easy in Teesdale! We call her our ray of sunshine as she is always radiating good vibes when she visits. Now she’s brought good vibes our way! Thank you to all involved at for recognising our small business for this national award! We are grateful!

Reflecting on 2023 as we begin the new year, which will be our 6th season growing flowers with love in the heart of Teesdale. We are as passionate as ever about what we do now, as when we sowed our first seeds. 2023 was probably our most challenging year growing flowers. A really damp spring followed by a drought followed by what seemed to be never ending rain…….. and it’s still raining now! We were privileged to be involved in some amazing celebrations and also emotional farewells in the local community. For each occasion we put our heart and soul into creating beautiful florals. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our customers. We couldn’t have succeeded without the support from the people of Teesdale who chose our flowers. We wish you all a happy new year!
Claire and Karl tied the knot last Friday! At one of Teesdale’s finest wedding venues, High Force Hotel and Waterfall for an intimate gathering. Claire chose a seasonal colour palette celebrating all the gorgeous tones and hues that are our favourites- that’s why we grow them!! Loved creating her wedding bouquet. Such a huge responsibility and one we take to heart - after all a bride’s bouquet is on most of her pictures so that in theory your wedding flowers make you happy – not just on the day but each time you look at your photos for years to come. The moment a bouquet is revealed is so special and pleased to say in Claire’s words “Thank you again. Absolutely stunning and everything we wanted”. Plenty of jobs to do in autumn but it’s not all about clearing beds. There’s plenty to plant out in anticipation of the year that’s coming. We’ve been planting out Ranunculus today, pre sprouted and ready to develop into strong plants ready for next year. The detail of these flowers is beautiful.
Frosts put an end to our glorious dahlias today. It’s always a sad moment marking a point in our calendar that it’s time to put everything to bed! Luckily Laura sent me some pictures from her wedding day earlier in September. I love this one of her and her mum 😍 both are keen gardeners. Laura had a great knowledge of flowers and what her vision was- she knew she wanted LOTs of colour and shared my love of Dahlias!
The bouquet was an explosion of colour. A joy to create as I love colour.
We’ll miss our dahlias till they return next year! I’m already planning new editions and fresh colours! Roll on summer 2024!! Thank you Laura for sharing your lovely pictures and we wish you and Neil lots happiness for the future!
Well autumn has definitely arrived in Teesdale. These colours are definitely autumnal - my absolute favourite colour palette. What a joy to create!

Tuesday saw a gathering at the flower farm for our first PYO and make something beautiful workshop. The common thread that joined us all together was a love of flowers. We were joined by my lovely friend Caroline Beck who did a splendid welcome chat and it wasn’t long before the group dispersed. Wandering amongst the beds picking blooms that caught their eye. It was fascinating to see the different array of shapes and colours that everyone picked.
We enjoyed a brew, delicious cakes and scones from Piercebridge Organic Farm and Farm Shop before everyone got to work creating their own masterpiece! Huge thanks to everyone that came and made the gathering so enjoyable!
I never tire of the views from and around the flower farm but to see people’s reactions to the beauty we are surrounded by in Teesdale and their joy in picking our flowers was really special. If you’d like to know when we are having another drop me a message!
Wedding bells were ringing last Saturday at Gainford Church for Laura & Richard. Then it was back to Cotherstone for celebrations in a beautiful Tipi from Fjell Event Tipis which was nestled into the Teesdale countryside, just two fields from the flower farm! You don’t get more local than that!
We were excited to create a floral hoop for the tipi, we love a large installation! As well as lots of florals for the church and bridal party! More to come on those later but for now here’s a glimpse of the hoop before and afters! We’re proud to say 100% foam free!
Lots of gorgeous leafy foliage created a base to which we added brambles, meadowsweet, sorbus berries, long tassels of Amaranthus and some grapes from our polytunnel! On Saturday morning we added lots of flowers before it was hoisted into position by 4 men! Thank goodness they were there, we couldn’t even move the rope!!
With thanks to the team; mum and sister Sadie and to Rosh for coming to help on Friday. We had fun working together! What was really amazing was that Rosh had just finished a 3 day / 170 mile bike ride and still had energy to come to assist us!! Wow!! Thank you all- couldn’t have done it without you all!!

We were asked to put together a special gift to deliver today. We chose three gorgeous vases from Niche and then filled them with a glorious selection of blooms from our flower farm. We grow David Austin roses and The Shepherdess smells divine. Olivia Austin is pretty special too! The scent from the Philadelphus is heavenly not too mention the sweet peas! We really enjoyed putting this gift together, love delivering surprises!!

Tree planting to celebrate the start of our 5th season at Pink’s Flower Farm! Every year has been very different and presented many challenges but mum and I have had a lot of laughs along the way. Love spending time with my lovely mum doing something that we are so passionate about. Growing flowers with love in the 💖 of Teesdale remains as true today as it did 5 years ago! Pink on the other hand isn’t so sure and is more interested in squirrels than flowers!
We are pleased to announce a date for another collaborative workshop hosted by Heidi Varley from Pink’s Flower Farm and Michelle Kral, Professional Artist, who specialises in watercolour painting.
Join us on Sunday 14th May from 9.30 until 3.30/4.00 at Cotherstone Village near Barnard Castle.
What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than with freshly picked tulips? Tulips grown with love in the heart of Teesdale - truly seasonal and totally stunning!! The day will be fun filled where you can immerse yourself in all things creative and floral!
Meeting at the flower farm in Cotherstone, you’ll be picking tulips with Heidi, who will talk you through how she grows tulips. She’ll offer you guidance and advice on how to get fabulous blooms, what stage to pick your tulips and how to condition them ready for arranging.
We’ll head over to the village hall and after a cuppa, Michelle will show you how to paint tulips in a loose and free style using water colours. With over 15 years experience of teaching, Michelle will share with you her extensive knowledge, passing on tips and techniques to enable you to create your own beautiful watercolour painting, mounted and ready to frame. Suitable for beginners and those looking to learn new skills or improve, Michelle will share her passion for painting to get your creative juices flowing!
We’ll take a quick break for lunch* before you’ll then be working with your tulips you picked along with spring flowers & foliage from the flower farm. You are welcome to bring along your favourite vase and you can arrange your flowers ready to take home to enjoy or Heidi will guide you through making a beautiful hand tie.

Loved creating this truly seasonal British autumnal tablescape this week! Made using foam free techniques, these sustainable garlands were created to celebrate what’s in season NOW! Gorgeous British foliage and masses of red hydrangea heads, Amaranthus, sedum and crab apples were used along with cornus twigs for their lovely colour and dried seed pods! A feast of true seasonal beauty and an absolute joy to create!
Bowl of autumn beauties despite a shocking week of weather! Thankful Tuesday was a great day for picking and there were some gorgeous blooms which we saved from the storms that raged the rest of the week. No frosts as yet but we’re all feeling a little soggy! Much work is to be done prepping for next year so we’ll just have to get our wellies n waterproofs on and get on with it!!
Autumn - what’s not to love! It’s hard to pick a favourite season but if I had to, it would be this one. Summer has been beautiful but the hedgerows are now plentiful with rich pickings. Fallen fruits, coppered ferns and meadow sweet which has bronzed with the onset of decay - absolutely gorgeous and just perfect to make this autumn table scape. Mix in some of our trailing Amaranthus and helichrysum heads to lift the colours to another level.
The low bowls were brimming with Rudbeckias, Scabious, Phlox, Celosia, Fountain Grass and my favourite foliage Physocarpus Diablo. All grown at Pinks! Finally scattered pressed and dried maple leaves that are just on the turn with beautiful autumn veining, acorns and beach nuts were scattered down the table. Candles were selected from to tone in, along with candle holders to finish the table beautifully. An absolute feast for the eyes of the very best of autumn!

Seasonal, scented wedding bouquet, a soft dreamy colour palette with pops of colours. Our exotic emperor tulips were just perfect, with scented stocks and narcissi. Delicate geums dancing! The hellebores added the pops of colour that made this bouquet sing!

Blue skies smiling at me Nothing but blue skies, all I see, Blue birds singing a song, Nothing but blue skies, from now on, I never saw the sun shining so bright, Never saw things going so right - as it did on Aimee and Simon’s wedding day back in August. Having poured with rain the night before, the sun shone as they took their vows. The venue “The Yorke Arms” was picture postcard perfect, in the Yorkshire Dales. Breath taking scenery all around. Pink’s have had a trip out of Teesdale this week to create wedding florals at the North East’s new luxe wedding venue Dalton Old Pump House! Absolutely stunning venue with a total transformation of what is a beautiful grade 2 listed building dating back to 1873. Much of the character and original features that make this building unique have been retained. Part of our brief was to create a “rambling natural garden” on the staircase. The staircase is vast and stunning in its own right and it was a joy to work on. Using foliage and flowers from the flower farm we set about creating what we hoped was the bride’s vision. When she saw it her words “it’s everything I wanted but struggled to describe” were music to our ears. Using eco friendly & sustainable foam free techniques we had an enjoyable creative day in warm friendly surroundings creating the staircase and table decorations. So much excitement yesterday morning in the build up to the ceremony when I arrived with the bridal flowers. The scent and natural beauty of the flowers especially our gorgeous butterfly ranunculus were appreciated by the bride and all the lovely bridesmaids making all the hard work of growing the flowers so worth it! Congratulations to Lauren & James - wishing you all the happiness in the world!
Crikey it’s been a long week and a huge effort by Pink, Pat (aka Mum!) and I to get thousands of beautiful tulip bulbs planted. So many gorgeous tulips to look forward to in spring! Watch this space 😉
As our 2021 season draws to a close, from all at Pink’s Flower Farm we’d like to say a huge heartfelt thank you, to all our customers and supporters. To everyone that has bought our flowers, had kind words of encouragement and advice - THANK YOU! 2020 was the year that we’d all like to forget and 2021 got off to a very challenging start with the continued lockdown and the very very cold spring. It felt like both would never end - but they did and as we all emerged gingerly in June the flowers were blooming their socks off! Through the seasons we have delivered flowers to our regular Flower Club customers, our lovely customers at Piercebridge Organics & Cross Lanes, the many people who have ordered flowers for others and themselves not to mention flowers for happy and sad times. The sound of wedding bells ringing was a relief to brides everywhere and we breathed a huge sigh of relief for our brides - it was an honour to create your wedding florals! Our flower beds are now being prepared for spring, bulbs are being planted and there is much work still to do planning for next year but we wanted to say thank you to you all for making it worthwhile! We love what we do and couldn’t do it without the support of all our customers - we look forward to bringing you more floral joy in spring 2022!
