This event was about uplifting our community, and spending money with local businesses was another way to achieve that.

One of those businesses was in Tyldesley.

We have a history with Mel – She was one of our stall holders at our very first event back in 2012 when 1300 people descended on the old Formby Hall in for our first bash at a Christmas Market.

Back then, we fell in love with her signature cake pops 🥰

She stuck with us throughout the years, becoming a favourite for our visitors. It wasn’t uncommon to see a ‘sold out’ sign on her stall before the end of the day.

We’ve watched Mel go from strength to strength, she now has her own bakery where she not only caters for events like ours but also everything in between from to and any kind of occasion you can think of.

For those who want to delve into the world of cake baking and design, she also hosts her own tuition classes where you can learn new skills.

The night before the awards ceremony, Mel and her lovely mum and dad were still up at 2 am labelling these beauties

700 brownies and blondies, 30 cupcakes for our visitors with specific dietary requirements, and 20 cake pops as a gift for our headline sponsors Vanliners Limited!

Even after we gave her this mammoth task, she delivered on time with a smile on her face 😊

On Friday, we had the pleasure of visiting one of our winners who couldn’t attend the awards ceremony—Grant Adamson of Grant's Bulldog Forge, this year’s 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿.

It was a delight to tour the forge, hear the inspiring story behind its creation, and explore the incredible range of unique products on offer. Many of these items, crafted by small businesses, are truly one-of-a-kind treasures you won’t find on the high street.

Grant is such a deserving winner, and Nic and I can’t wait to return for a proper shopping spree and perhaps a ghost hunt!

Independent Business of The Year Award with Wigan Business Awards

BEYOND thrilled 🥰🥺😭

Not every category had a Highly Commended Award - it was given when voting was r e a l l y close which is buzzing to hear we weren't far of winning.

This competition was judged by a Panal of Business Owners across the UK. To me this feels like SO much more of an achievement than competitions that are based on number votes, as it meant I had to pitch to the Panel about all the good things Olive Owl has done and how it has helped the Community of Wigan. After doing that and seeing that the judges marked us highly, is such music to my ears 🥰
