Happy Halloween everyone!
Investigating capillary action at Arty Science camp to make 'walking water'. Each group started with red, yellow and blue water, some beakers and kitchen roll and ended up with a whole rainbow 🌈
What a week of Awesome Engineering!! See what 384 sticks, a LOT of elastic bands and a whole lot of teamwork can achieve…a huge 4m high pyramid. We tested its capacity by fitting everyone inside and it even survived being lifted off the ground! And of course everyone enjoyed the demolition just as much as the construction 😁
And the launch! Every child had a chance (or two!) to launch their own rockets at Super Space camp today. If they want to relaunch them at home, you can make a stomp rocket launcher with instructions at www.fabscience.co.uk/diy-stomp-rockets
It's mince pie season again...and I've got a Van der Graaff generator!

Mince Pies vs Static Electricity
Day 19 of Fab Science advent: Whizzy the Elf is playing with mince pie tins on the Van der Graaff generator. When the machine is switched on, it builds up static charge (just like rubbing a balloon on your jumper). The dome and the pie tins all end up with the same type of charge so they repel each other and tins fly off! This is like trying to push two magnets together when you have both of the north ends facing each other.
Volcanoes that you can erupt at home!
Day 18 of Fab Science Advent: our elf is demonstrating one of our favourite volcanic eruptions. It's a bit slow to get going...but it just doesn't stop! You can find instructions for this and a couple of other volcano options at www.fabscience.co.uk/volcanoes
