Established in London in 1993, classes are now a weekly treat for 1,000s of families across the UK. Helen has run Monkey Music in Bromley, Chislehurst and Hayes for 12 years now. Starting when her own daughters were small, Monkey has been a constant part of family life. All 3 of her children loved Monkey Music, and have gone on to sing and play instruments. Helen is married to a musician, Rhydian,

who plays cello in the orchestra at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Helen plays the double-bass, and the 2 of them regularly take their instruments into classes when the Ding D**g children (aged 3-4 years) are learning about the orchestra. Helen says "with 3 children and Monkey to look after, life is never dull!"

Monkey Music Weekly Classes:

1) Rock 'n' roll – from 3 months:
Designed specifically for Mums, Dads and very young babies to share together. During each class the babies and adults are engaged through gentle songs, fascinating sounds and absorbing activities.

2) Heigh ho – from 12 months:
Young toddlers love being up on their feet so lots of dancing and moving encourages the children to explore the space around them and express the music they hear. The children thrive on the 'steady beat' and are very enthusiastic young members of the Monkey Music band. Themed classes and bold colourful props captivate the children and encourage everyone to get involved.

3) Jiggety jig – from 2 years:
By this stage, children can really express the joy that music brings them. They sing, dance, play, move, tell stories, speak, and listen to music together. Monkey Music teachers make sure that the children develop their sense of rhythm whilst playing in time to Monkey Music songs and games. Hoops, parachute games and circle dances are always popular Jiggety Jig activities.

4) Ding d**g – from 3 years
Up until now the children have been listening and responding to music they hear. Now that their ears have been ‘finely tuned’ Monkey Music teaches them what music means when they see it written down. Reading simple traditional musical notation comes easily to Monkey Music children as it is integrated into the final part of our interactive curriculum

So, this definitely doesn't happen every week!

Tomorrow we're off to the Oscars of the UK franchising world, as finalists in the BFA HSBC UK Franchise Awards 2024.

Looking forward to mingling with the UK franchise glitterati and enjoying an evening of celebration.

Being finalists is testament to the hard work, passion and talent within our local teams, to our incredibly loyal and supportive Monkey Music families, and to the huge team effort that goes on up and down the country each week within the Monkey Music family.

Teamwork is most definitely the dreamwork! 💞

Monkey and Mo enjoyed building towers with Heigh-Ho today (age 1-2). Building towers is great for your little one’s development. Not only does it support fine motor skills, but it helps our little ones learn about cause and effect. It also helps build emotional resilience to things going wrong!so when the wind and rain came today we knocked the towers down and it was great fun for all!

Sarah and Lyndsey were thrilled with their leaving cards overflowing with love and thanks from all the Monkey Music families they were teaching last term.

Thanks to everyone for letting them each know how much their teaching meant to you and your little ones, it really means so much.

And Monkey met 'Brewdog' - a fab setting for a fun night out!

Good luck to you both in your next chapters of full time teaching for Sarah and the Mary Poppins UK and Ireland tour for Lyndsey - you are both amazing and we can't wait to hear how everything is going at our next meet up X

Monkey and Mo enjoyed the thunder, rain and sunshine in classes today. During these first weeks of term we’ve been singing lots of songs about the weather. Many traditional nursery rhymes include weather! Singing nursery rhymes with your little one is fantastic for boosting their vocabulary! It helps them recognise the patterns and rhythms needed for reading and also supports numeracy, creativity, communication, physical development and grows an early understanding of the world!! Amazing, right? ⛈️👏🩷

This term, our Ding-Dong children (3-4 year olds) are learning about the percussion instruments of the orchestra. And our Monday class got to try out a wide range of instruments at Bromley Youth Music Trust recently, where we run classes on Mondays and Fridays. Sarah said it was wonderful to see the children exploring the different percussion instruments and she was impressed with how brilliantly they played them all.
