The great sailing adventure.

The Ionian Islands in Greece are lovely at this time of year. Our first charter of a 41 ft boat.

We've been climbing, snorkeling with barracuda, cave exploring, dolphins have shown us the way, cute towns and taverners, lovely food.... Quality adventure.

Survival Event - Royal British Legion, week one.

We have been so lucky with the weather and we've made the most out of it. We've living in the woods in Dorset doing all things bush-craft and survival skills. Everything from fire lighting, shelter building, hanging pots, how to make hooks, night navigation, animal butchery, foraging, traps and snares, bread making - the full works.

Today the participants are putting all their learning and knowledge to the test in a huge challenge day competition. Awesome.

Starting to think about merch and colours for next years events and races already. It always takes longer than you think to bring all the bits of the puzzle together.

Last year at the Malvern Hills race I went for high quality wooden medals, that people seemed to like. Funky colours was requested and I like that. πŸƒ

What do you think about this first knock up? πŸ€·πŸ™‹

Brecon Beacons 10 Peak Challenge - Hike for Mike

This one brought a group of old school friends back together to traverse the Brecons in aid of our dear friend Mike who sadly lost his battle with cancer a couple of weeks ago, leaving behind Kate - his wife and their 3 young children.

This was our fundraiser to help support Kate and her 3 young kids - https://www.gofundme.com/f/michael-cawley-fundraiser-brecon-beacon-10-peak-challenge

It was amazing to get together and go into the mountains as friends. The mountains, as we know, are tricky playgrounds and the weather yesterday was grim. There were a few breaks from the rain and lifts from the clouds that gave way to the views we love.

A team, together, to remember our friend Mike.

Bonkers - 82 x 4000 meter summits in 19 days under human power alone. Kilian Jornet - ran and cycled between all 82 peaks in the Alps above 4000 meters. Here's the stats:

1207 Kms
75,344 meters of height gain
5 hours of sleep a night

That's 4000 meters of height gain, 64 km of distance every day and over very technical terrain, including climbing. To put this in prospective the previous record was by world-renowned Swiss alpinist Ueli Steck who climbed all 82 peaks over 4000m in the European Alps over 62 days in the summer of 2015.

62 days to 19 days - that's utterly mind blowing.

Quote from the man himself:

β€œ19 days after getting started on Piz Bernina, my dream of climbing all 82 4000 meter peaks of the Alps using only human power to link them together came true on DΓ΄me and Barre des Γ‰crins, the westernmost of them all.
This was, without any doubt, the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life, mentally, physically, and technically, but also maybe the most beautiful.
It’s difficult to process all my emotions just now, but this is a journey that I will never forget.

I want to thank again all the people who supported me or climbed with me throughout this project.

It’s time to rest for a bit now!”

What a legend!!!!!!!!

The Miroir d'Argentine - I've only climbed this once before with Jason about 14 years, so it was great to go back with Rebecca and do another lap today.

I had forgotten how long the face is and how hard / sustained some of the pitches are. I was glad to have a small trad rack to plug some gaps.

Great adventure climbing at its best.

Some shots of the ascent of Tour D'Ai 2331m. It was meant to be quite a straight forward outing but with cloudy weather and very low visibility on an extremely steep cliff - got the heart rate up. The via ferrata itself was in fact pretty 'pumpy' in places.

The best part of the day was being able to mountain bike to the highest lift, walk in from there, climb and then downhill bike off to the town below - god I love the Alps.

The Welsh 3000s - all 15 peaks in Wales above 3000ft

The beast. For anyone that has had a crack at the Welsh 3000s knows how difficult it really is. 50 km and 4000 meters of ascent is tough at the best of times but throw in all the scrambling, steep ground, slippy grass and starting / finishing in the dark and you know that 'you're on an adventure'.

Well done to all the team yesterday - hero efforts from everyone.

A wonderful few weeks of mountain events such as the Welsh 3000s, the 3 Peaks, abseil events at the Strand in central London, archery events and more. Plus the usual mix of running, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding and generally getting outside. Although a hurty back has really stopped play in the past 6 days, apart from very gentle runs and walks.

Looking forward to what's coming up next with Survival Events for the Royal British Legion, Nepal treks with Kenton Cool and a Morocco expedition - which still has places, if anyone is keen to get involved with?

Morocco Expedition - 7th to the 12th December 2024

Looking for two more people to join this trip / expedition. It's a huge amount of fun and an introduction to winter mountaineering course - all at the same time whilst summitting 4 x 4000m meter peaks including Mt Toubkal at 4167m - the highest point in Northern Africa.

All logistics, transport, food, porters, accommodation, guides etc provided. It's UK flights you need to purchase.

If you're keen comment below or send me an email. Here's so shots from the last trip.

Toby Roberts - Gold at the Olympics

This is a lovely story. He's only 19 and his parents built him a climbing wall in the garden so he could train. Four years later the plan came together - what an achievement.

I am sure we all 'doff our caps' - good work sport.

Something a little different on Monday after a short break, I was back teaching archery. I've actually been a qualified archery instructor for 22 years - not many people know that.

The Welsh 3000s πŸ’₯πŸƒ

This one was unusual, the weather gods decided to play Russian Roulette with each other. Hammering rain, hail, full sun shine, windy, cloudy - I am not sure how the shipping forecast sounded on that day but we had it all.

We were up at 2:50 am, started at 4:30 am and finished at 1 am the following day, bedtime at 2 am. 50 km and 4000 meters of vert, ticking off most of the Snowdonia Massif peaks and lots of the technical scrambles along the way. It's a long time on your feet. Tired legs we had, more training we will.

Total time 18 hours, peak to peak time 14 hours - that's dam fine.

It's been a full tour of the UK recently climbing up and down all the mountains in all the weathers and I love it. It's brilliant to show people how to operate in bad weather, to engage and enthuse, we've had the best time.

We have another Welsh 3000s on the 24th August for anyone keen on a good dose of suffering? Obviously rewarding afterwards.......

Have a great week folks

Morocco - I am putting another Morocco expedition trip date of Saturday the 7th December to Thursday the 12th December.

If any one if keen, let me know. It's an intro to winter mountaineering course with the chance to climb 4 x 4000m peaks including Toubkal at 4167m - the highest point in Northern Africa.

What a legend - Mark Cavendish broke the record today and became the most successful Tour De France rider of all time.

Breaking Eddy Merckx’s long-standing record of 34 stage wins. Will he carry on and have a crack at a few more first places finishes. I hope so.

What a sporting legend, most people had written him off due to age and injury - let's all take a leaf out of his book and put more effort in.

The National 3 Peaks Challenge

It's a monster at the best of times. We did this challenge over 3 days, which is my preferred method of doing it but the UK road network really went into chaos and caused delays beyond belief.

The mountains were magnificent, the clients were charming, the road were ridiculous. We still had fun though and we giggled, laughed and hiked our way around the UK. A great journey and adventure πŸƒπŸ’₯

Great to be working with Boston Scientific again - what they do for work is incredible, look into it, it's amazing 😍

This might help a few people with the warmer weather coming our way. This is a great swim.

The river Wye is on our doorstep and there’s plenty of places to go for a lovely swim. At Lower Lydbrook - https://maps.app.goo.gl/GzXnfVojafgfHkPq8 - there’s easy access, good flowing water - so it's nice and fresh (clean) and there’s even rapids that you can go down which is great fun. Swim against the flow for a treadmill style workout or get in at Lydbrook and swim downstream and get out where you like but it's better on the right hand side. There’s a beautiful footpath that comes back up stream and a bridge to crossover back to your start point. All very idyllic - see map attached for the swim route that is 2.5 km - a great swim.

I hope that helps some folks πŸ˜πŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ

A great abseil event at a wonderful venue - St Stephens Church in Bath. A very exciting series of vertical ladders going up through the bell chamber took you onto the roof with the most excellent view.

All for the great cause of the Trust Bath - thanks for getting involved folks and a big well done from Matt, Mark, Josh and myself. We hope you like the photos. I know there's plenty more to come from other angles.

This is one I've personally wanted to do for a while. A mountain biking loop of 'The Gap' starting in Talybont-on-Usk.

For those that have done the Brecon Beacons 10 Peak Challenge, this is the pass through the highest point.

To be completely honest from the start it was stunning scenery but it was unbelievably rocky and that made the riding hard work at all points. There were very few 'look around' moments as you were solely focused on not going over the handle bars. I would have run the route in a quicker time. Lol.

This might have been different on a full suspension bike but loose boulders on a path are always a risk - especially when you're flying solo.

Either way. A great day for the legs.

Enjoy 😍

Fun in the sun at Chipping Sodbury today.

Helping raise funds for the much needed render of the church. As always, a wonderful group, all of whom went down without a hitch. A lovely day, a charming atmosphere and plenty of cake as consumed.

Big thanks to all from Mark and myself πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ₯³πŸ˜˜

Welsh 3000s - all the mountains in Wales above 3000ft

Fancy a big day out? A free fitness test included. There's 15 summits in Wales above 3000ft and they're all based in Snowdonia National Park. This day out links all of these peaks together in one spectacular journey, taking in many famous scrambles such as Crib Goch and Tryfan.

It's a big day out, so there's various aid stations along the way, allowing you to top up on water, food and snacks. It's a linear journey, so transport to the start and back again is included, mountain guides will show you the way. It's 55 km and has 3800 meters of ascent.

Open Events - Saturday the 6th July and 24th August. Here's some shots from previous events. 🀩πŸ₯°πŸƒπŸƒπŸ’₯
