Good news or Bad news? We have a sparrowhawk that has worked out that our fabulous bird table I watch from my kitchen sink is basically a blue-tit take-away. About 5 times a day it does a fly by and has a high hit rate, I’ve seen it take 3 blue-tits in as many days. It’s good news because now we have so many kites, buzzards and kestrels over St Clere (presumably a result of our biodiversity efforts on the farm) but but but such bad news as I feel soooo protective of the blue tit/great tit/robin families that have been thriving for years around our bird table.

Does anyone have a super cute dog? We are nearly ready to launch our new Six Acre Dog Walking Field early next year and we could do with some lovely pictures of your four-legged friends in the great outdoors for the website. If anyone has a great outdoor photo of their dog (MUST HAVE A FIELD IN THE BACKGROUND) and are happy for them to star in the new website, please email a Hi-res version to [email protected] and/or put it in the comments below and we will ask for a high resolution version if chosen. Any photo chosen will get a free hour in the Field when it opens.

Please only send photos in high resolution and with a field in the background.

St Clere are now offering mixed hardwood seasoned logs for sale harvested from the estate from sustainable woodland under a Forestry Commission Woodland Management Plan. Avoiding transport makes this a very environmentally friendly option for neighbours in villages surrounding the estate, however orders from further afield will be considered if regular or large or there are a number of deliveries to be made in the same area.
Free roadside delivery to local residents, dropping as near as practical.
Prices for 2024 season (VAT is 5% for domestic use)
1m³ bag £140 + VAT
1.6m³ bucket £175 + VAT
4m³ trailer £420 + VAT
Introductory offer to include a free large bag kindling
Logs typically 25cm to fit most wood burners and average 20% moisture

For our neighbours, just to let you know we are combine harvesting now. Might be worth closing windows and bringing in laundry if the dust bothers you. The good news is that the huge combine harvesters work incredibly quickly so it should be all over soon and back to peaceful (ish) farm views!

Pretty much every drama that is filmed at St Clere involves murder or torture for some reason and normally only focuses on the spooky basements and derelict attics. This episode of Whitstable Pearl for once shows the house off and it was a heat wave during filming so it all looks wonderful.

Wouldn’t it be a game changer to have a direct line from Tonbridge to Gatwick rather than having to drive or trek up to London and out? It would also be great for the economy of Tonbridge and surrounding districts.
Tom Tugendhat, the Tonbridge & Malling MP is leading a campaign to resurrect the train line. He is asking for supporters to fill in a short form, here is the link if you have a moment (it took me less than 30 seconds to complete).

I’m campaigning for a rail connection to Gatwick and I hope you will join me. For too long we have suffered much of the downside but little of the advantages of being near one of the UK’s major airports. That should now change.

Loving the fact it looks like we have a Boeing 747 permanently parked on top of our lake in Google Maps right now. I was alerted to this by a location scout who was concerned that it would spoil the look of the fashion shoot down at the lake!

The second cottage which is now available to rent (see previous post for details of the first) is this lovely 3-bed middle terrace in Coney Shaw on Kemsing Road towards Wrotham. This is a wonderful property with stunning views, and has only had one careful tenant since it was a new-build.
