One of the great things about this gig is the folk that I get to meet.
My new pal, Andrew, who now resides in splendour up The Avenue gave me a 50 year old bottle of port. He apologised for the fact that the label had fallen off. He’d bought 12 bottles from his pal at the rugby club in 1976. We both agreed that it would probably need decanting.

So, in a manner which would have made Carson proud, I have now decanted it.
It is a juicy joy. Such a treat! Thank you, Andrew. Proof that not all decisions made in the rugby club bar are bad ones.

Is it winter again?! Time to light the fire and open a hearty red? Maybe not just yet……
Cast your mind back to sunny summer days.
This wine was a nice surprise. English again, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay made in Norfolk’s Waveney Valley Flint Vineyard Great things are happening in Norfolk!

Tried the 2022 of this when down in Exeter earlier in the year at the excellent Rendezvous Wine Bar https://www.winebar10.co.uk/ and have used at a few tastings.
I love it! Light, crisp and unoaked. Made using Madeleine Angevine (hands up if you have heard of it) with a touch of Pinot Blanc and only 11%!
You might have to search a bit for the 2022 as it has been very popular.
Sharpham was established by the Ash family and they got busy planting vines in the 1980s. Real pioneers of the English wine scene.
