It’s just about two weeks off from the clocks going forward and leaping into the puddle of British Summer time ! My apologies for forgetting to post the weekly menu on here, it is always updated on our website. Next weekend brings Mothering Sunday. The origins of Mothering Sunday are unclear, there are many theories, it has been celebrated in the UK since the Middle Ages, and was more based in religion and around the mother church. Mothering Sunday coincides with Laetare Sunday, also called Mid-Lent Sunday or Refreshment Sunday. It is always interesting how things evolve and change along the way. It is that time of year again, I saw my first snowdrops in flower last week, the daffodils and hyacinths are pushing their way up, not seen a crocus yet though which is unusual as ours usually can’t wait to get started then quickly get got by the cold and wet. Slightly staggered that we are a whole year on from the passing of Queen Elizabeth. It has been a strange year getting used the simple change from QC to KC as a pre cursor to many things we have for so many years taken for granted, along with the her Majesty, his Majesty. It was quite incredible that last week there was seven hours of commentary for the cricket on the radio, but no actual cricket being played as the weather wasn’t playing ball. The commentators did a fantastic job filling the whole seven hours with interesting sometimes silly chit chat, amazing ! Looks like you'll need to keep the brolly handy this week too!

It was very kind of mother nature to put on plenty of wet weather sporting events this weekend to keep people occupied while the rain fell and the wind blew. So much to chose from, golf, cricket, formula 1, footie (ladies), tour de France. It resulted no doubt in much channel hopping, and sore button fingers ! This weeks menu is offering something a little different, a fish fest tasting menu with a veggie alternative. Another week closer to the coronation, I am secretly wondering how many dishes over the next few weeks will take on a coronation this and that theme. I shall be keen to see the state coach in action on the day, it is such a vast opulent historical reminder of times past when power was handed down in a very different way. I’ve checked the diary, internet, and locals (more than once!) to be sure Easter is happening next weekend, A Good Friday, followed by an Easter Sunday and Monday, time for looking out for Easter bunnies, egg hunting and eating, sharing time with friends and family and admiring the wonderful array of daffodils that this year seem perfectly timed. It is national pie week this coming week, you will notice we have no pies on the menu !!! The following week sees Mothering Sunday on the 19th, as it is a day to treat all Mothers in some way we have a menu organised to be delivered on Saturday 18th or early Sunday before lunch so mothers may get a treat of someone else doing the cooking. We had a cunning plan!!! Thought we would try to be seasonal this week, but not a turnip to be had anywhere ! Some of you will be sooooo very pleased to hear that, the rest we imagine bemused 😉I can’t help but think the base thought of the newbies to turnips will be thinking, “ we need mares milk and Macadamia nuts with these to make them edible” which kind of misses the point somewhat 🤷‍♀️. What a beautiful day it was today, so spring like. I noticed some daffodils that were buds yesterday and in flower today, and our crocus, which have “walked” some distance in the 20 years we have lived in our house, are giving some lovely colour to this part of the year that is mainly green. As I look across the garden there is a cloud of gnats doing that weird flying in circles on mass in one spot thing they do. Everything in life has a purpose, but gnats??? Apart from being a food source for other forms of life, and getting in your eyes, I am slightly mystified by them. Don't feel mystified by this weeks menu, it's all yummy!
