Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year Health Prosperity and Peace. As we enter 2024 I want to thank everyone who has helped and supported me during the last year Clients, Ministers, Clergy, Funeral Directors, Venues, Managers, Patrons Suppliers of Pipes Accessories, Kilts and Equipment and more. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🇨🇮🙏. Shortly we will embark on the Annual Burns Season which is not just on Burns Night January 25th but is now spread over a three week period because there are not enough Pipers to cover the demand for Pipers on January 25th even in Scotland. One of my venues Downham Hall at Billericay still has a tables available for January 25th I would recommend that you book for a really memorable evening to Celebrate the great Scottish Poet Robert Burns and Enjoy Wonderful Food , Piping and the traditional Address to The Haggis with Rabbie’s “ Ode to The Haggis “ and a Wee Dram. Downham Hall is a fantastic venue which was once visited by Mary Queen of Scot’s.

Today is the 79th Anniversary of the Sinking and Loss of the Sloop HMS Kite Protecting Artic Convoy JW59 sailing to Murmansk At 06.04 Hrs the ship slowed to untangle Foxers and short while later at 06.30 she was hit on the Starboard side by 2 Torpedoes fired by U Boat 344 ( Commanded by Ulrich Pietsch) the Stern half of the Ship sank almost immediately the bow remained afloat for about a minute, out of a Crew of 226 Officers and Men there were only 9 Survivors rescued from the sea by HMS Keppel . The following day U344 was caught on the surface by a Fairey Swordfish aircraft from the Aircraft Carrier HMS Vindex she sank immediately with no survivors. One of the Crew was my Late Uncle Chief Petty Officer Patrick Sullivan . The Ship was built at Cammell Laird at Birkenhead with money raised during War Weapons week in Braintree. There is a Memorial to HMS Kite inside the Gates to Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens. I will play my Pipes in honour of all the Crew and those who lost their lives as I have done every year since the Memorial was erected on 21st August 2004. They all made the huge Sacrifice as did Millions of others from all across the World to help defeat N**i Tyranny May they all Rest in Peace and Rise In Glory. 🇬🇧🇨🇮☘️🙏🙏🙏

Stopping for a funeral

This afternoon I was driving on a country road in the direction of Roscrea and a good few hundred yards ahead of me I noticed a hearse and funeral procession driving towards me. The second I saw it, I stopped the car and waited. This is what we do here in Wexford and noticed the exact same behind me today. Regardless of how busy the road was, everyone stopped and people blessed themselves as the hearse passed by. We stopped to think of the family, the neighbours and friends of this person whom we didn’t know. This was not an inconvenience, it is the least anyone can do. It is respect and something very very powerful. And after the very last car of the funeral cortège passed, and even a few seconds more, I turned the key in the ignition and I drove off and so did the cars behind me. This is instinctive and powerful and I did the exact same a few weeks ago here in rural Co. Wexford. These are things that are very important and they are things I hope we never loose.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

These Photos were taken at Crystal Palace on Thursday June 2nd to Celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee where I played The Pipes before the lighting of the Beacon attended by The Mayor of Bromley Councillor Hannah Gray who Led the singing of The National Anthem like Her Majesty a most gracious Lady. Thank you also to Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR The Queen’s Pageantmaster over 30 years who always does such an amazing job, and College of Piping in Scotland for arranging over 1300 Pipers both here and in Commonwealth Countries right across the World. At my last visit to Crystal Palace I was competing in the last Formula 3 Race on the Circuit before it was closed down along with the Late James Hunt and my School Friend Alan Jones both of whom went on to Win World Championships James with McLaren in 1976 and Alan with the Williams Team in 1980. The Photo with the Tower showing behind me is the Old Start Finish line many other World Champions competed at the Circuit including Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, Denny Hulme, Jochen Rindt, Niki Lauda, and John Surtees who also raced Motorcycles there and Won World Championships on both 2 and 4 wheels the only person to have ever achieved it. May God Bless your Majesty today and always “ God Save The Queen “ 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Past piping testimony for the wedding of Mr and Mrs Paine:

“A Wedding Celebration for David and Suzie and a great pleasure to be their Master of Ceremonies on such a wonderful occasion. A 1pm Ceremony successfully achieved in the outside Gazebo despite rain being forecast later in the day. A surprise feature being the arrival of Andrew MacGregor a superb Piper who delivered an ancient blessing and shared the whisky from the Ceremonial Quaich with the happy couple. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Paine.”
