What a perfect way to spend a bank-hol Sunday afternoon - playing lovely funk 'n' soul sounds to lovely people..... but this post ain't about the great fun we had yesterday, playing toons out in the Hickory Inn garden to soul-music-lovin' folks, followed by one of the best funk bands around (force-of-nature 'Unkle Funkle').... no SIR - I wanna spread the word about the truly amazing PULLED PORK BURGER I enjoyed while spinning my records!... words fail me when I try to describe the taste sensation, so ya'll wanna get on down and grab one for yerself. His Parliament-Funkadelic collective (which primarily recorded under the distinct band names Parliament and Funkadelic) developed an influential and eclectic form of funk music during the 1970s that drew on science fiction, outlandish fashion, psychedelia, and surreal humor. He launched his solo career with the 1982 album Computer Games and would go on to influence 1990s hip hop and G-funk.
Clinton is regarded, along with James Brown and Sly Stone, as one of the foremost innovators of funk music. I'm still in my phase of discovering the legend Otis Redding. There was more to him than the big hitters and the festival performances.

Despite leaving us while still young and right on the cusp of superstardom, he made a huge impression on the soul scene of his time, and on pop music in general, and today, his influence on contemporary soul music continues.

He will always be an enigma to me and others, not only because of his short life, but because he was one of those rare musicians who could summons the spiritual power of true 'soul' music, and channel it through his powerful voice for us all to feel and enjoy.

July 23 2011 was the day we tragically lost one of the greatest singers of modern times. Amy Winehouse was a 5-times Grammy Award winner, and took much of her sound and visual style from classic soul performers of the 60's and 70's, turning this inspiration into new music with talented producers like Mark Ronson who gave her that timeless and polished sound.

You might find yourself wondering if there's any point in a month to celebrate black music - after all, don't we celebrate it every day?... but I say, if putting it in the spotlight for a short while gives even one person a lifetime of love for it, or ignites the fire within someone to give them the desire to become a singer or musician - and maybe the next great artiste, then it's worth it.

Many of us live and breath black music every hour of our lives, but many people don't even know some of this wonderful music even exists. Let's get it out there to the masses and spread the enjoyment and the love 🎶 🌍 💖
